Cricket Makes a Comeback at the 2028 Olympics: What to Know!
New Delhi – After 128 years, cricket is coming back to the Olympics! This was announced by the event organizers, and it’s great news for cricket fans. The last time cricket was part of the Olympics was in 1900, during a special match between Great Britain and France, which is now seen as an unofficial Test match.
At the 2028 Los Angeles Games, cricket will be played in the T20 format. Six teams will compete in both men’s and women’s categories. Each team can have a squad of 15 players, making a total of 90 athletes for each gender.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) has 12 full members, including countries like India, Australia, and England, and there are also 94 other countries that are part of the associate members group. The exact rules for how teams will qualify for the cricket event in 2028 are not clear yet. However, the USA is expected to get a spot as the host nation, so only five other teams will qualify through competition.
Cricket is one of five new sports added to the Olympics, along with baseball/softball, flag football, lacrosse (sixes), and squash. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) approved cricket’s return in 2023, making this a historic moment for the sport! -
Tahawwur Rana, 26/11 Attacks Co-Conspirator, Extradited to India for Trial
Tahawwur Hussain Rana, a 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks co-conspirator, is back in India. He is expected to land in New Delhi around 12 noon on Thursday. After arriving, Rana will likely be taken to Tihar Jail, which is a high-security prison.
To ensure safety, security around the Patiala House Court in Delhi has been increased. Police and special forces have been stationed there, and they’re carefully checking everyone entering the area. Tihar Jail officials have also made special arrangements for Rana’s stay in a secure section of the jail.
Indian authorities are preparing for an intense questioning session with Rana. Important officials, including Union Home Minister Amit Shah and National Security Adviser Ajit Doval, met recently to create a security plan for Rana’s arrival. The court proceedings for Rana might be conducted privately due to safety concerns because of the high-profile nature of the case.
Rana has already been questioned multiple times, and officials believe he may try to mislead them during the new investigation, which could be a long process. A special team, including officers from the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and experts in criminology, will question him. Their goal is to expose the key figures behind the attacks.
Rana’s return became official after the US Supreme Court denied his last appeal against extradition. His situation changed from being in US custody to being transported to India. It was reported that the Indian authorities assured the US that Rana’s rights and prison conditions would meet international standards before his extradition was approved.
Now that he is back, Indian agencies want to learn more about connections between the terrorist group Lashkar-e-Taiba and Pakistan’s intelligence services. They hope Rana can provide information about notable leaders linked to the attacks, many of whom are still free in Pakistan.
Tahawwur Rana, 64, is originally from Pakistan but has Canadian citizenship. He is known to be close friends with David Coleman Headley, a key figure behind the Mumbai attacks.
Additionally, India has appointed a special lawyer, Narender Mann, to handle Rana’s trial. His role will include overseeing the case in the NIA Special Courts and ensuring the legal process runs smoothly. -
Trump’s Fury: Investigating Critics and Punishing Law Firms
On Wednesday, President Donald Trump took steps to punish people who have criticized him. He signed two orders telling the Justice Department to look into the actions of Miles Taylor and Chris Krebs, two officials from his first term. These orders may also remove their security clearances.
Trump is unhappy with Taylor and Krebs because they spoke against him. Taylor, who used to work at the Department of Homeland Security, wrote a secret New York Times article in 2018, calling himself part of a “resistance” against Trump’s policies. He later revealed his identity and wrote a book. Trump called Taylor a “traitor” and said that his actions were like “spying.” Taylor replied, saying that speaking out against the government is not illegal.
Krebs was in charge of cybersecurity, but Trump became angry when Krebs said the 2020 election was secure and there was no evidence of fraud. Krebs did not comment but shared a post he made when he left the government, saying he was proud of his work.
Trump has repeatedly claimed he lost the 2020 election because of fraud, despite many facts showing that Joe Biden won fairly. Experts like David Becker found it strange for a president to investigate his own appointees.
Trump also targeted a law firm called Susman Godfrey that represented Dominion Voting Systems in a case against Fox News, which falsely claimed that the election was rigged. Trump’s order restricts the firm’s access to government resources, and the firm vowed to fight this order in court.
Trump has used his power to penalize critics. Some have settled, but others are challenging his actions legally. -
Mizoram’s Fight Against Drug Trafficking: Key Meeting with NCB
Guwahati: Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma met with Anurag Garg, the Director General of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), to tackle the rising drug problems in Mizoram. They talked about better ways to stop drugs coming across the border. The Chief Minister said it’s important to improve roads and have more people working at the borders to help fight drug smuggling. He also asked the Central Government to set up a Mizo Territorial Army to assist in this fight.
Anurag Garg said it would be helpful to have a Zonal Office in Mizoram and suggested hiring more NCB staff who can speak Mizo. This meeting also included Vanlaldina Fanai, the Commissioner and Secretary to the Chief Minister.
Last month, Union Home Minister Amit Shah praised the NCB for seizing methamphetamine tablets worth ₹88 crore and for capturing four members of a drug cartel. Shah said, “We will not show mercy to drug cartels. We are working hard to stop drug problems in our country.”
In recent operations, the NCB caught a truck carrying 102.39 kg of methamphetamine near Lilong and arrested three people involved. They also arrested someone with 7.48 kg of methamphetamine in a vehicle near the Assam-Mizoram border.
The NCB is now investigating another case where about 46 kg of crystal meth was seized in Aizawl and four people were arrested. They want to find out how these drug networks operate across states. The North East region of India is particularly at risk for drug trafficking because of its location, so the Ministry of Home Affairs has increased NCB’s numbers in 2023 to help combat this issue.
The NCB has been working hard to fight against drug traffickers in the area, especially focusing on synthetic drugs like methamphetamine, which are dangerous for the youth and the country. -
Transport Businessman’s Tragic Death in Delhi Car Fire
On Monday night, a burning car was found near the Bijwasan Road flyover in Delhi, and sadly, a 42-year-old man named Sandeep was discovered inside. Sandeep was a transport businessman living in Palam Vihar, Gurugram, and was driving home from his office in R K Puram when his Toyota Glanza suddenly caught fire.
The Fire Department got a call at 10:32 PM about a car on fire and sent two fire engines to the scene. They put the fire out by 11:20 PM. Once the flames were gone, firefighters found a charred body inside the car, which was not recognizable at first.
The Kapashera police station received a report about the fire at 10:25 PM on Tuesday. Police quickly sent a team to check it out and found the burning Toyota Glanza. Initial investigations showed that the car was going from the Bijwasan Flyover towards the Dwarka Expressway when the fire broke out, trapping Sandeep inside.

Why Foreign Banks Should Invest in India Now!
India is a great place for foreign banks to grow, said Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman while speaking to UK investors. She led a meeting in London with around 60 investors from various banks and financial companies.
During the meeting, Sitharaman talked about how the Indian government is working hard to keep the economy growing and make it easier for businesses to invest in India. She mentioned that India is becoming a major player in the insurance market, predicting it will be the sixth-largest market by 2032 with a growth rate of 7.1% from 2024 to 2028.
Sitharaman also highlighted India’s fast-growing stock market, where it settled trades faster than many other countries. Currently, India’s market value is about $4.6 trillion, ranking it as the fourth biggest in the world.
She shared exciting news about India’s special International Financial Services Centre (GIFT-IFSC), which is designed to help businesses with tax benefits and skilled workers. By March 2025, over 800 companies from various sectors like banks, insurance, and fintech will be working under this framework.
India’s digital economy is booming and accounted for over 11% of the country’s total economic output last year. The country is home to many successful tech startups, with a huge number of them, called “unicorns,” making a mark in the global market. The growth in fintech companies shows how tech-savvy people in India are rapidly adopting these new financial services.
The investors at the meeting shared their thoughts on how the government can continue to improve policies and expressed interest in investing more in India. Sitharaman’s visit to the UK also includes talks with British Treasury Chief, Rachel Reeves, about trade and investment opportunities between the two countries.
Reeves emphasized that this collaboration aims to create better trading conditions for British businesses. They also discussed improving job opportunities and the ongoing India-UK trade deal discussions. -
Ruchi Aggarwal: The Importance of Clear Communication in Business
Ruchi Aggarwal, a graduate from the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad, shared her story online that got people talking. She learned something big when she started her job at a global consulting firm: her MBA degree didn’t prepare her for real-life work.
In her first client meeting, Ruchi was nervous. She had written down 15 ideas to help the client, thinking it was smart to give options, like a menu. But the partner in the meeting stopped her and said, “Ruchi, just tell me the one thing we should do.” She was taken aback and realized that in real business, top leaders want clear and straightforward answers, not many choices. This is what she calls the “executive filter.”
Ruchi explained that business schools focus on knowing a lot of information, but in real life, it’s more important to communicate ideas clearly. She said, “Success isn’t about having all the answers. It’s about having the right ones and saying them in an easy way.”
Her story struck a chord with others, especially people who have been through business school and work in consulting. One person commented, “In the beginning, I thought offering too many options showed I was smart. Later, I learned no one has time for that.” Another agreed, saying, “At the end of the day, it’s about explaining your idea clearly so decisions can be made easier.” -
Father’s Plea for Justice: Death Penalty for Mumbai Attack Assister
The father of a police officer who was killed during the 2008 Mumbai attacks is asking for the death penalty for Tahawwur Rana. Rana is a man accused of helping plan those attacks, and he is being sent back to India from the United States.
Subhash Shinde’s son, Rahul Shinde, was a constable in the Security Reserve Police Force (SRPF) and died while bravely fighting to protect people at the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel during the attack. The tragic events of 2008 still haunt Subhash, who now feels deep emotional pain.
He said, “So many people lost their lives in this terrible attack, and I keep reliving what happened, even though it’s been over 16 years.” He believes that giving strong punishment to those responsible, including Rana, would honor the victims and help bring justice.
Rana was friends with David Coleman Headley, one of the main planners of the Mumbai attacks, who had scouted locations before the attack happened. Subhash believes all involved must be punished for their actions.
On November 26, 2008, ten terrorists from Pakistan attacked Mumbai, killing 166 people, including people from many countries. The attack targeted famous spots like the Taj Mahal Hotel and Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus, shocking the entire nation.
As Subhash Shinde shared his sorrow, an injured police officer who survived the attack voiced the need for strong action against Rana. The fight for justice continues, and Subhash hopes to see accountability for everyone involved in the attacks. -
Madras Welcomes A New 15-Member Cabinet Led by C. Rajagopalachari
Tomorrow morning, Madras will have a new 15-member Cabinet, led by Mr. C. Rajagopalachari. This is the largest Cabinet Madras has ever had! The announcement came after a 45-minute meeting between Mr. Rajagopalachari and the State Governor, Mr. Sri Prakasa.
The only returning member from the previous caretaker government is Mr. A. B. Shetty. Mr. M. A. Manickavelu Naicker, who was elected from the Commonweal Party, is the only member considered an “outsider” in this Congress-led group. He met Mr. Rajagopalachari today to discuss the Commonweal Party’s role in the state assembly; this party has six members in total.
Mr. Rajagopalachari said he wouldn’t share any details until he is officially sworn in tomorrow. The details about the Cabinet members’ roles will be revealed then.
The new Cabinet includes 12 assembly members and 3 members from the Upper House. A statement from Raj Bhavan confirmed that the resignations of the previous Chief Minister Mr. P. S. Kumaraswami Raja and his team will take effect tomorrow.
Here are the members of the new Cabinet:
– Mr. C. Rajagopalachari, M.L.C.
– Mr. A. B. Shetty, M.L.A.

– Mr. S. P. Pattabhirama Rao, M.L.A.
– Mr. D. Sanjeevaya, M.L.A. (Reserved for Harijans)
Except for Mr. Rajagopalachari and Mr. Shetty, most of the Cabinet members are new. However, Mr. N. Sankara Reddi previously served as Parliamentary Secretary in a Congress Cabinet back in 1947. He is 53 years old and represents Kurnool.
Mr. D. Sanjeevaya, 30 years old, is likely the youngest member and previously served as a Member of Parliament before joining the Assembly.
Both Mr. Venkataswami Naidu and Dr. U. Krishna Rao, former mayors of Madras, will also serve in the Cabinet. Mr. Naidu is now Deputy Chairman of the Upper House and has been elected to the Assembly from the city. Dr. U. Krishna Rao, 51, is a doctor and Vice-President of the Indian Medical Association.
Other members also have impressive backgrounds, including Mr. Ranga Reddi, who previously led the Cuddappah District Board, and Mr. V. C. Palaniswami Gounder, who is well-connected in local communities.
Tomorrow marks an exciting new chapter for Madras as this dynamic new Cabinet steps into action!
