  • Activist’s Encounter with Zomato Delivery Agent Sparks Emotional Conversation

Activist’s Encounter with Zomato Delivery Agent Sparks Emotional Conversation

A story from Delhi about a social activist and a Zomato delivery guy has caught people’s attention online. Kiran Verma was parking his car in Noida when he saw a delivery rider, whom he called “Vishal” (name changed), eating food on his bike. At first, Kiran thought the food was for a customer, but after talking to the rider, he learned something surprising.

Vishal had picked up an order at around 2 PM but found no one home to receive it. Zomato has a rule that allows delivery partners to mark orders as “delivered” if nobody is there. This means after marking it, they can keep the food for themselves. Kiran realized that while this might seem unfair, it helps delivery workers save money and prevent food waste.

In his post on LinkedIn, Kiran thanked Zomato’s CEO, Deepinder Goyal, for this helpful policy for gig workers. He expressed hope that these workers could enjoy time with their families during festivals, just like everyone else.

People on social media praised Kiran’s post, writing things like, “This is really heartwarming,” and “Thank you for sharing this.” Many people appreciated his compassion and the insight on how gig workers help provide food and services.

  • Banks Write Off ₹16.35 Lakh Crore in Bad Loans: Key Insights & Updates

Banks Write Off ₹16.35 Lakh Crore in Bad Loans: Key Insights & Updates

Banks have removed a total of ₹16.35 lakh crore in bad loans, known as non-performing assets (NPAs), over the last ten years. The highest amount was ₹2,36,265 crore written off in the year 2018-19, while the lowest was ₹58,786 crore in 2014-15. In the financial year 2023-24, banks wrote off ₹1,70,270 crore in bad loans, which is lower than the ₹2,16,324 crore written off the year before.

According to Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, banks are allowed to write off bad loans if they have set aside enough money for them for four years, following rules by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). However, this does not mean that borrowers are freed from their debts. Banks continue to work hard to recover money from borrowers through various methods. This includes going to civil courts or special tribunals to reclaim owed amounts.

As of December 31, 2024, there are 29 big companies labeled as NPAs by banks, each owing more than ₹1,000 crore. The total amount they owe is ₹61,027 crore. To recover outstanding payments, banks contact borrowers through calls and emails. If companies miss payments, banks can take them to the National Company Law Tribunal for a possible bankruptcy process.

In related news, Finance Minister Sitharaman announced that the government will create the 8th Central Pay Commission (CPC). The financial details will be revealed once the commission makes its recommendations.

  • Rajasthan Royals: A Journey from Underdogs to Title Contenders

Rajasthan Royals: A Journey from Underdogs to Title Contenders

As the 2025 IPL season approaches, Rajasthan Royals (RR) are getting ready for another shot at winning the IPL title again. Known for their exciting ups and downs, RR has had many memorable moments, some tough times, and even controversies. Let’s take a look back at their journey and what might be next for the Royals.

    The Magic of 2008

When the IPL started in 2008, Rajasthan Royals were seen as the underdogs with little fanfare. But under the leadership of cricket legend Shane Warne, they surprised everyone and won the first-ever IPL trophy. Key players like Yusuf Pathan and Sohail Tanvir stepped up, helping them create one of the best stories in IPL history. Their success came from focusing on lesser-known players, a strategy that has become popular with the team.

    Changing Leadership

After winning the title, the Royals went through many changes in leadership. Shane Warne retired in 2011, and Rahul Dravid took over as captain. The team’s performance went up and down over the years. Steven Smith later became captain, but the team also faced challenges when the 2013 spot-fixing scandal struck, affecting their performance both on and off the field.

In 2018, Ajinkya Rahane became captain after a tough year. Then in 2021, Sanju Samson took over, bringing new hope along with the help of former cricketer Kumar Sangakkara as the Director of Cricket.

    The Controversial Years

Rajasthan Royals have seen their fair share of controversies. The 2013 spot-fixing scandal was the worst, leading to the team being banned for two years and one of the owners facing a lifetime ban. This hurt the team’s reputation, which used to be known for finding great talent.

On the field, they struggled to make it past the group stages for several seasons, and fans were very disappointed, especially in 2021 when they came in second last.

    Rajasthan Royals Rise Again

After several tough years, 2022 became a turnaround for the Royals. They reached the IPL final for the first time since 2008, thanks to Jos Buttler’s amazing performance as the highest run-scorer of the season. The bowling attack featuring Yuzvendra Chahal, Trent Boult, and R Ashwin was one of the best in the league. Although they lost to Gujarat Titans in the final, this was RR’s best season in over a decade.

    The 2023 and 2024 Seasons

In 2023, Rajasthan Royals finished fifth. While they started strong, they faced ups and downs throughout the season. Yashasvi Jaiswal stole the show with incredible performances, but Jos Buttler’s form dipped, affecting their consistency.

2024 saw RR finish third. They didn’t reach the finals, but their strong performances showed they could compete. However, their main players, including captain Sanju Samson, struggled to maintain good form.

    IPL 2025: What’s Next?

With IPL 2025 coming up, Rajasthan Royals look to build on their recent progress. Sanju Samson continues as captain, supported by players like Jos Buttler, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Riyan Parag. RR has a good mix of young talents and experienced stars. They aim to keep finding new talent from smaller cities and give opportunities to players like Dhruv Jurel and Kunal Singh Rathore, along with international stars like Jofra Archer and Shimron Hetmyer.

If Rajasthan Royals can stay consistent, avoid injuries, and play their best cricket, they will surely be strong contenders for the IPL 2025 title.

Nikkei Jumps Nearly 1% as U.S. Market Boosts Investor Confidence

On Monday, Japan’s Nikkei share average jumped almost 1%, boosted by big gains in the stock market. The Nikkei rose by 0.9%, closing at 37,396.52, which is its best closing in over a week. The broader Topix index climbed 1.2% to finish at 2,748.12.

Last Friday, U.S. stocks had a good day, helping to lift the mood for investors in Japan. People felt optimistic after Congress passed a temporary bill to prevent a government shutdown. “This is a short break from worries, but for now, things seem better,” said Hiroshi Namioka, a strategist at T&D Asset Management.

Major semiconductor stocks in Japan made noticeable gains. For example, shares of Tokyo Electron went up by 2.2%, and Advantest rose by 2.7%. Heavy machinery companies also did well, with Mitsubishi Heavy Industries’ shares soaring by 12.2%. Investors are thinking about Japan possibly needing to increase its defense spending. Kawasaki Heavy Industries rose by 6%, and IHI Corp climbed nearly 10%.

Even though the mood improved, investors still watched for a U.S. retail sales report that could affect the economic outlook. Other notable stock movements included SoftBank Group rising by 1.8%, game maker Sony Group gaining 2%, and TDK Corp going up by 2.8%. However, Fast Retailing, the owner of Uniqlo, fell by 0.5%. Out of the 225 companies in the Nikkei index, 187 saw their stock prices go up while 36 went down, and two were not traded.

  • Shah Rukh Khan Moves to a Luxury Apartment While Mannat Gets Renovated

Shah Rukh Khan Moves to a Luxury Apartment While Mannat Gets Renovated

Superstar Shah Rukh Khan, known as SRK, is about to change his home after living in his famous bungalow, Mannat, in Bandra, for over 20 years. Starting in May, SRK and his family will move to two big apartments nearby while their current home gets renovated.

This is a big change for Shah Rukh, as he hasn’t shared living space with anyone since the late 90s, so he’ll have neighbors for the first time in over two decades!

So, where will he be living? SRK, his wife Gauri, and their three children—Aryan, Suhana, and AbRam—will stay in a luxury apartment building called Puja Casa in Pali Hill, which is not far from Mannat. The building belongs to filmmaker Vashu Bhagnani and his family.

Shah Rukh has rented two duplex apartments on the first, second, seventh, and eighth floors of Puja Casa. The rest of the building is home to other residents. Renovation work on Mannat will start in May, and it requires special permission since it’s a heritage building. This means the Khan family will live in their new place for about two years.

What about their neighbors? The Bhagnani family lives in Puja Casa, and they are well-known in the film industry. Vashu and his wife, along with their kids, are regulars there. Jackky Bhagnani and his wife, Rakul Preet Singh, also call this building home. So, for the next couple of years, Shah Rukh and his family will be neighbors with the Bhagnanis.

To make sure his family is safe and private, Shah Rukh and his team are taking extra steps for their new apartment. They have signed a lease for three years.

  • Security Heightens at Aurangzeb’s Tomb Amid Demands for Removal

Security Heightens at Aurangzeb’s Tomb Amid Demands for Removal

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, heavy security has been placed around Aurangzeb’s tomb. This comes after groups like Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal threatened to remove the tomb, saying it could face a “Babri Masjid-like fate” if the state government doesn’t act.

On Monday, many security personnel were seen at the site. Bajrang Dal members also protested in front of the Nagpur District Collector’s office, demanding that the government take action to remove the tomb of Aurangzeb, a Mughal emperor.

Bajrang Dal leader Nitin Mahajan warned that if the government does not respond, there will be protests similar to what happened in Ayodhya, where the Babri Masjid was demolished in 1992. That incident led to much unrest, and a Supreme Court decision in 2019 gave the land for a Ram Mandir (temple) to be built while giving Muslims a different plot for a mosque.

Mahajan said, “We want the government to remove this grave. If they don’t, we will protest strongly.” He mentioned that the community’s response could be serious, just like it was during the Babri Masjid events.

Adding to the situation, BJP leader T Raja Singh wrote to the Union Minister asking for details on the funds spent by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) for the tomb’s upkeep.

In response, Congress leader Vijay Wadettiwar criticized VHP and Bajrang Dal, saying they aren’t helping the people of Maharashtra but are causing more division and unrest. He emphasized that there are pressing issues like farmer suicides and unemployment that the government should address instead of focusing on historical conflicts.
