Walmik Karad Requests Court Release in Sarpanch Murder Case
In Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Walmik Karad, one of the main accused in the murder of sarpanch Santosh Deshmukh, has asked a Beed court to free him from the case. He argues that there is no strong evidence against him. The court has asked the state Crime Investigation Department (CID) for a response to his request.
If the court believes there isn’t enough proof against Karad after the chargesheet is filed, it can allow him to avoid a trial. Santosh Deshmukh, who led Massajog village in Maharashtra’s Beed district, was kidnapped and brutally killed on December 9 last year. It is believed he was murdered for trying to stop an extortion scheme involving an energy company. So far, eight people, including Karad, have been arrested and are facing serious charges under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act.
Last month, the CID submitted a lengthy chargesheet of more than 1,200 pages about Deshmukh’s murder. Ujjwal Nikam, a special public prosecutor, said that Karad wanted some documents, which they have now shown to the court. He also mentioned that Karad’s claim of lacking evidence is part of his request to be released from the case.
During the court session, a video showing Santosh Deshmukh being attacked, reportedly recorded by the accused, was shown. However, prosecutors asked the court not to release this video to the public as it could cause disturbances. The court will hear more on this topic on April 24, along with a request by the prosecution -
Cricket Returns to Olympics: Exciting News for LA 2028
Great news for cricket fans! In 2028, cricket will return to the Olympics after 128 years. This was announced by the event organizers. The last time cricket was played at the Olympics was in 1900 in Paris, where only Great Britain and France played a two-day match. At the LA 2028 Games, cricket will be played in the exciting T20 format, with six teams competing for medals in both men’s and women’s events.
Each team can have a squad of 15 players, which means 90 athletes will participate for each gender. The International Cricket Council (ICC) includes 12 main cricket-playing countries—like India, Australia, and England—and there are also 94 other nations that play cricket.
The exact rules for how teams can qualify for the Olympic tournament are not confirmed yet. However, since the USA is the host country, they will likely get a spot right away. This means only five other teams will qualify based on their rankings. It is expected that the top five teams in the ICC rankings will secure their places at the Games.
Cricket isn’t the only new sport; baseball/softball, flag football, lacrosse, and squash will also debut at LA 2028. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has also added 22 more medal events than what is planned for Paris 2024. A total of 351 medal events will take place at LA 2028, with 10,500 athletes participating. Excitingly, for the first time, all team sports will have equal numbers of women’s and men’s teams. Additionally, boxing will see full gender equality with a new women’s weight category added.

Basit Ali Warns Yashasvi Jaiswal: Find Your Form
Former Pakistan cricketer Basit Ali didn’t hold back when he spoke about India’s young opener, Yashasvi Jaiswal, who has been struggling lately. Basit compared Jaiswal’s situation to that of Prithvi Shaw, saying it’s important for Jaiswal to find his form before it’s too late.
Jaiswal was once seen as the next big star in Indian cricket after a great year in 2023, but things have changed since the 3-1 Test series loss in Australia. In the current IPL 2025, he has only managed to score one half-century (67 runs against Sunrisers Hyderabad). Known for his aggressive playing style, he’s now facing challenges with his performance.
Basit expressed concern, saying it seems like Jaiswal has lost his desire to play the game. “His passion for cricket seems to have faded. Look at Prithvi Shaw – cricket can break your heart if you don’t give it your all,” Basit said on his YouTube channel.
While Jaiswal is looking for answers to improve, other players are stepping up. Priyansh Arya from Punjab Kings made headlines with a quick century in just 39 balls against Chennai Super Kings, showing the fearless spirit of a new generation of cricketers. Also, Sai Sudharsan from Gujarat Titans impressed with his consistent performance, scoring 82 runs off 53 balls against Rajasthan Royals.
The difference in performance is stark. While Jaiswal is struggling, experienced players like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have recently retired from T20Is after winning the 2024 T20 World Cup. Basit believes their decision was wise, as many young talents are ready to shine.
Despite Rohit’s current struggles in the IPL, Kohli is performing well, scoring 164 runs in four matches with a strong strike rate of 143.85 and hitting two half-centuries.

China Stands Strong in Trade War as Tariffs Soar Against the US
In the ongoing trade fight between China and the US, a spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, Mao Ning, said that China will not be scared or back down from challenges. To make her point, she shared an old video of former Chinese leader Mao Zedong from 1953, during a time of war with the US. In the video, Mao Zedong says that it is not for China to decide how long the war will go on. Instead, it is up to the US presidents. He also claimed that no matter how long it takes, China will never give up and will keep fighting until they win.
Recently, US President Donald Trump announced that tariffs on Chinese goods are going up by 125%. This decision came after China decided to raise its tariffs on American products from 34% to 84% starting on April 10. This back-and-forth started when the US first raised tariffs to 104%. Trump had even warned of more increases following China’s earlier move. China’s government called the US tariffs unfair and claimed they were just a form of bullying.

Tea Seller Calls for Death Penalty for 2008 Mumbai Terror Accused
In Mumbai, a tea seller named Mohammed Taufiq, also known as ‘Chotu Chai Wala,’ is speaking out about the cruel terrorist attacks in 2008. He helped many people escape during the attacks at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus when 166 innocent people lost their lives. Taufiq saw the horrible events unfold in front of him and helped guide people to safety, and took the injured to the hospital.
Now, he is sharing his thoughts on the recent extradition of Tahawwur Rana, a man linked to the attacks. Taufiq believes Rana should not receive any special treatment, like fancy food or a nice cell, and he wants him to face the death penalty quickly, preferably within a few months. He supports stricter laws against terrorists in India.
Taufiq pointed out that money can’t bring back the lives lost during the attacks, and he would celebrate if Rana gets punished with a death sentence. He also expressed gratitude to the US government for bringing Rana back to India. Rana is expected to arrive in New Delhi soon and will likely be held in a high-security jail.
On November 26, 2008, ten terrorists from Pakistan attacked several places in Mumbai, leading to widespread chaos and grief. Taufiq’s call for justice shows how deeply the events have affected those who lived through it.

Peon Fired After Viral Video Shows Him Grading College Exams
A peon named Pannalal Patharia at a college in Pipariya, Madhya Pradesh, was fired after a video showed him checking answer sheets for college students. The video became popular on social media and made many people angry. Patharia was let go, along with two other people, guest teacher Khushboo Pagare and colleague Rakesh Mehra. This happened after the principal, Rakesh Verma, and a political science teacher, Ram Ghulam Patel, were suspended on April 4.
The investigation started after the video went viral on January 31. It was found that Patharia was paid ₹5,000 to grade the answer sheets because the college didn’t have enough teachers. Verma admitted that the college had a staff shortage but said it was another teacher’s fault for asking Patharia to do the grading. “How can I be held responsible for it?” he said.

Minecraft Movie’s Record-Breaking Success Leads Hollywood Revival
Hollywood has started buzzing again! The lull that began in 2025 is over, and it’s all thanks to a surprising hit—the Minecraft Movie. This new film based on the very popular video game has just become the biggest box office success of the year! Despite some trouble at theaters, the movie opened at No. 1 in the US and Canada, earning a whopping $163 million in North America. That’s a lot more than what people expected—forecasts estimated around $85 to $100 million.
The Minecraft Movie also did great internationally, bringing in another $150.7 million, totaling about $313 million for its opening weekend. In the UK alone, it made an impressive £15 million.
Starring big names like Jason Momoa, Jack Black, and Danielle Brooks, the movie has beaten other big films like Barbie and Wicked in opening weekend sales. The movie is a fun mix of live-action and adventure, showing what happens when characters get sucked into a world built from blocks, just like in the game.
But there’s been some chaos in theaters! Many cinemas in the UK and US have asked moviegoers to stop throwing popcorn and screaming during showings. This wild behavior started because of a TikTok trend where fans go crazy when Jack Black says “chicken jockey” in the movie. “Chicken jockey” is a fun character from the game, and fans started cheering and throwing popcorn when they heard the line.
Several UK cinemas have warned that anyone causing trouble will be removed. They want everyone to enjoy the movie without distractions. Some US theaters even had to call the police to keep things under control. So if you’re planning to see the Minecraft Movie, remember to enjoy it quietly!
Though critics didn’t love the film, audiences are clearly having a blast.
