Pope Francis Struggles with Pneumonia but Remains Hopeful

Pope Francis, who is 88 years old, is facing serious health problems as he battles double pneumonia. Early on Tuesday, the Vatican announced that the Pope had a rough time on Monday and needed help breathing again. Doctors had to use a special mask that pumps oxygen into his lungs.

During the night, Pope Francis was able to sleep well and is now resting, but his situation is still serious. The Vatican reported that doctors removed a lot of mucus from his lungs using a small camera and suction tool. This mucus was his body’s response to the pneumonia and not a new infection, which is hopeful news.

Pope Francis has a history of lung disease, having had part of one lung removed when he was younger. He is not very active, uses a wheelchair, and struggles with his weight. While he has been receiving therapy to help improve his breathing, doctors are concerned that he is having trouble clearing mucus from his lungs on his own.

Dr. John Coleman, a lung doctor in Chicago, mentioned that the situation looks worse than a previous issue Francis had just a few days earlier. At that time, he coughed and accidentally inhaled some vomit, but he improved quickly.

Doctors are trying to avoid putting the Pope on more serious breathing machines. They have not needed to put him on invasive support so far. It’s unclear if he has made plans for his care if he becomes unable to make decisions, but Church teachings state that ordinary care should always be given.

Archbishop Vincenzo Paglia said that today, the Pope is teaching everyone about fragility and the importance of caring for one another. Pope Francis’s hospital stay has lasted 18 nights, which is not a record but still important for his health.

Brutal Murder of Sarpanch Sparks Outrage and Political Shake-up in Beed

In December, Santosh Deshmukh, the village head (also known as a sarpanch) from Beed district in Maharashtra, was kidnapped, tortured, and killed. The people who did this recorded 15 videos, took 8 photos, and made 2 video calls during the incident. They abducted him because he tried to stop them from extorting money from an energy company.

The terrible details of Deshmukh’s murder made a lot of people upset. Dhananjay Munde, a leader in the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and a government minister, stepped down from his position on Tuesday because many people were demanding it after one of his aides, Walmiki Karad, was arrested for being involved in the case.

The videos showed Deshmukh being beaten with a pipe and stick, and he was forced to chant a phrase about one of his attackers. In another video, one of his attackers even urinated on him while he was hurt.

As the torture went on, one of the accused, Krishna Andhale, who is still on the run, made two video calls on WhatsApp. The police report doesn’t say who he called. They found broken pieces of the pipe that was used to hurt Deshmukh, and it turns out that Sudarshan Ghule, one of the main suspects, runs a crime gang in Beed. This gang has been involved in many illegal activities across various areas.

Munde initially wanted to explain his side of the story in front of the state assembly before he resigned. However, the chief minister Devendra Fadnavis and his colleague Ajit Pawar rejected his request after the brutal details of the murder became public and the videos spread on social media.

Karad, who helped Munde during his election campaign, is one of the seven people arrested. Munde’s cousin, Pankaja Munde, a leader in the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), mentioned that Dhananjay Munde couldn’t do his job without Karad.

The videos and photos recorded by Deshmukh’s attackers are included in the police report, which many people have seen. This situation caused a protest, or bandh, in Beed on Tuesday. Sandeep Kshirsagar, a lawmaker from the NCP, said that things got tense when the videos were shared online. He added that it was good for the community that Munde has stepped down. The Beed Police also released a statement asking people to remain calm and not to take the law into their own hands.

  • Kieron Pollard Hits Six Sixes in a Historic T20I Match!

Kieron Pollard Hits Six Sixes in a Historic T20I Match!

On this day in 2021, Kieron Pollard made history by hitting six sixes in one over during the first T20I match against Sri Lanka at the Coolidge Cricket Ground in Antigua. He became only the third player ever to do this in international cricket, joining Herschelle Gibbs and Yuvraj Singh. Pollard’s amazing achievement was even more exciting since it happened right after Sri Lankan spinner Akila Dananjaya took a hat-trick in his last over, dismissing three West Indies players in a row.

Sri Lanka batted first and scored 131 runs for 9 wickets in 20 overs. Pathum Nissanka was their best player, scoring 39 runs. The West Indies bowlers, especially Obed McCoy, who took 2 wickets for 25 runs, did a good job keeping the Sri Lankan batting under control.

The West Indies started strong, with openers Evin Lewis and Lendl Simmons putting up 52 runs in just 19 balls. Lewis scored 28 runs, and Simmons added 26. But then, Dananjaya changed the game with a stunning hat-trick in the fourth over, taking out Lewis, Chris Gayle, and Nicholas Pooran in consecutive deliveries. Suddenly, the West Indies went from a great position at 52 without losing a wicket to 52 for 3.

Pollard didn’t let this faze him. In the sixth over, he faced Dananjaya and unleashed a fierce attack. He hit six sixes in that over! He started with a powerful shot over midwicket, followed by another huge hit straight over the sightscreen. Then he blasted one over long-off, and the next sailed over wide long-on. Even with one hand off the bat, he sent the fifth ball flying over the leg-side boundary. Finally, he flicked the last ball over deep midwicket.

This incredible display made Pollard part of an elite group, being only the third batsman to hit six sixes in an over in international cricket and the second in T20 matches. Earlier, Herschelle Gibbs did it in the 2007 ICC Cricket World Cup against the Netherlands, and Yuvraj Singh did it in the first-ever ICC World T20 against England the same year.

Pollard scored a rapid 38 runs off just 11 balls, turning the game back in favor of the West Indies. Although he got out soon after, Jason Holder helped secure the win by scoring 29 not out, finishing the chase at 134 for 6 in just 13.1 overs, hitting the winning six.

“I just had to come out and back myself. It was something the team needed. I didn’t see the hat-trick, I only heard. But I still had to come out and do what the team required at that point in time. After the third six, I felt it was possible. I went for it and it paid off,” Pollard said after his amazing performance. For Sri Lanka, it was a wild game, filled with excitement from Dananjaya’s hat-trick to the disappointment of giving up six sixes in two overs.

Russian Missile Experts Strengthen Ties with Iran Amid Rising Tensions

Several senior Russian missile experts have traveled to Iran in the past year as both countries strengthen their defense ties. Travel records show that seven Russian specialists flew from Moscow to Tehran on two occasions last year: April 24 and September 17.

Out of these seven experts, six were on official state business, indicated by their special passport numbers. All seven have high-ranking positions in the military. Two are colonels, two are lieutenant-colonels, and others are experts in air defense, artillery, and weapon development.

An Iranian defense official stated that Russian experts visited Iranian missile production facilities, including some in underground locations. Although it’s unclear exactly what they were doing, these visits occurred during a tense period for Iran, which was engaged in military exchanges with Israel.

Attempts to contact the Russian specialists were met with varied responses. Five of them denied visiting Iran or their military roles, while one did not comment, and another hung up.

Both Iran and Russia signed a significant military agreement last January. Their cooperation has already affected Russia’s ongoing war in Ukraine, notably with the deployment of Iranian-designed drones.

The information about these flights was provided to Reuters by a group of Iranian hackers opposing the government. They mentioned that the Russian experts traveled as VIPs.

The names, ranks, and backgrounds of these men show their capabilities in various military operations, from missile defense systems to advanced weapons research. One expert on the September flight was Sergei Yurchenko, who has also worked for the Russian military.

This collaboration between Russia and Iran highlights the ongoing military developments between the two nations amid rising tensions in the region.

  • Decatur’s Speed Cameras: Protecting Kids or Cashing In

Decatur’s Speed Cameras: Protecting Kids or Cashing In

Decatur, Georgia — At Beacon Hill Middle School in Decatur, Georgia, cameras watch for speeding cars in the school zone. Supporters believe these cameras help slow down drivers and make the area safer, especially when police can’t always be there. However, some lawmakers want to ban these cameras, claiming they mainly exist to collect money for local governments and camera companies.

More than 20 states, plus Washington D.C., use automated traffic cameras for speeding tickets, but over ten states have banned them. New Jersey tried using them for red-light violations but stopped in 2014. In Georgia, the debate about traffic cameras is heating up with three bills moving forward in the state legislature. The use of speed cameras in school zones was allowed in Georgia starting in 2018.

Opponents Say Cameras Only Care About Money
Over 100 representatives in Georgia’s House of 180 have backed House Bill 225 to ban speed cameras. Dale Washburn, a Republican from Macon, shared emails from drivers who felt unfairly ticketed. Some claimed they didn’t know they were in a school zone or that the warning lights weren’t flashing. Although tickets are considered civil fines and don’t show up on criminal records, drivers can’t renew their vehicle registration if they don’t pay. In 2024, about 125,000 people had unpaid violations, according to the Georgia Department of Revenue. Since 2019, speed cameras have made more than $112 million for cities and counties in Georgia, with a portion going to camera companies. Washburn criticized these companies, saying, “Their goal is to write tickets, not to enhance children’s safety.”

    Political Influence and Potential Reforms
Some lawmakers are considering stricter rules for camera use instead of banning them. They want better warning signs and to limit when the cameras operate. Republican Senator Max Burns of Sylvania sponsors Senate Bill 75, suggesting it would help remind drivers they are in a school zone. An alternate House bill suggests using half of the money from tickets for school safety.

In Decatur, many students walk or ride bikes home. Mayor Patti Garrett stressed the importance of protecting young residents after incidents where students were hit by cars. Police Chief Scott Richards said speeding has dropped by 92% in areas where cameras are used, but many drivers still speed. The city issued 4,500 tickets in January alone. With better warning signs and limited camera hours, Decatur claims its approach is effective. Nonetheless, some residents worry about the profit aspect of ticketing. John Moore from Milledgeville wrote to Washburn, saying, “Profit-based law enforcement cannot be trusted.

Rodney McMullen Resigns as Kroger CEO: What’s the Controversy?

Rodney McMullen, the CEO and Chairman of Kroger, unexpectedly stepped down after an internal investigation into his personal behavior. Kroger, the biggest grocery store chain in the U.S., announced on Monday that this investigation was not about how the company runs or its financial matters. However, they found that McMullen’s actions did not follow their rules for business ethics.

Since he resigned and won’t get a bonus for 2024, people are really curious about what he did. On social media platforms like X and Reddit, many users are guessing about the situation. One person on X asked, “What could the Kroger CEO have done to get in trouble?” Other users were shocked because McMullen is a known supporter of Donald Trump, yet they still don’t know the exact nature of the allegations.

People have suggested funny and bizarre theories online, like “Did he gamble? Hire sex workers? Or not pay workers?” Others joked that maybe he didn’t want to work in the office four days a week.

After McMullen’s sudden leave, he will give up all his unearned stock and won’t receive a bonus for next year, according to a filing with the SEC. Many are asking, “What did he really do?”

Rodney McMullen, 64, began his journey in Kroger in 1978 as a part-time stock clerk. He worked hard to rise through the ranks, becoming the CEO in 2014. Now, Ronald Sargent from the board has taken over as the interim CEO and chairman.

Since this news broke, searches for “Kroger CEO Rodney McMullen” have shot up on Google, especially from Kentucky, his home state, and Ohio, where Kroger is based. Search interest peaked on March 3, around 10:50 PM, with related searches about McMullen and Kroger.

The postponed exams affect students in Classes 8, 9, 10, 11, and 12. The board will share new dates for these exams soon.

However, exams in other parts of Himachal Pradesh will go ahead as planned.

If the weather gets better and the necessary materials for exams can reach the affected places, the board will try to hold the postponed exams after March 8, along with the other exams taking place in the state.

Vishal Sharma, the Board Secretary, mentioned that the new dates for the postponed exams will be announced later.
