Travis Head Shines with a Century in Australia’s Test Against India

Travis Head impressed everyone by scoring his ninth Test century during the third Test against India at the GABBA in Brisbane on Sunday. He made his century off just 115 balls and hit 13 four-pointers. Head came to bat when Australia was struggling at 75 runs for 3 wickets and teamed up with Steve Smith to put up an amazing partnership of 156 runs. Steve Smith scored 64 runs off 146 balls.

India started strong, with Jasprit Bumrah getting the openers Usman Khawaja and Nathan McSweeney out within the first five overs. Marnus Labuschagne also had a tough time, managing only 12 runs before getting out to Nitish Kumar Reddy. However, Head played aggressively while Smith stayed steady at the other end.

At tea on Day 2, Australia’s score was 234 for 3 in 20 overs. Unfortunately, Day 1 was affected by rain, allowing only 13.2 overs to be played, and Australia was at 20 runs with no losses.

  • Government Delays Key Election Bills in Lok Sabha Discussions

Government Delays Key Election Bills in Lok Sabha Discussions

The government has decided to hold off on introducing bills about “one nation, one election” in the Lok Sabha until after they finish important financial matters. Originally, two bills—the Constitution (129th Amendment) Bill and the Union Territories Laws (Amendment) Bill—were planned to be introduced on Monday. Sources say that these bills could be presented later this week after the Lok Sabha discusses and agrees on other important budget issues that are scheduled for today.

The updated schedule from the Lok Sabha doesn’t list these two bills for Monday. However, the government can still add new items to the agenda at the last minute if the Lok Sabha Speaker allows it. Last week, the two bills about holding elections for the Lok Sabha and state assemblies at the same time were shared with the members in line with the rules. The Winter session of Parliament will end on December 20.

  • Nifty & Sensex Surge Again: Key Factors to Watch This Week

Nifty & Sensex Surge Again: Key Factors to Watch This Week

The Nifty and Sensex, two important stock market indexes in India, have had a good week, gaining 0.5% for the fourth week in a row. Investors are feeling hopeful because of the upcoming festive season, which usually makes people spend more money. This boost in consumer spending comes just in time for the holidays!

However, traders are being careful as they wait for big events this week, like the meeting of the US Federal Reserve. This is where they will discuss interest rates, which could affect the stock market.

Here are four key points to keep in mind:

    1. US Fed Meeting: The stock market is closely watching the US Fed meeting on December 18, where a small rate cut (25 basis points) is expected. What the Fed says about the future will be very important.

    2. Economic Data: Other banks, like the Bank of England and the Bank of Japan, are also meeting this week. The Bank of England is likely to keep interest rates the same, and Japan is not expected to raise rates either. Traders will pay attention to important reports like Manufacturing and Services PMIs.

    3. Foreign Investment: Foreign investors (FIIs) have bought a lot of shares recently, totaling Rs 14,435 crore. While buying is good for the market, traders are watching closely because these investors can also sell quickly if they see better opportunities elsewhere.

    4. Global Markets: The US stock market had a mixed week, with the S&P 500 and Dow going down, while the Nasdaq had a good week.

Technical Analysis: If the Nifty index moves above 24,800, it could keep rising and might reach between 25,200 and 25,500. On the downside, there is strong support between 24,300 and 24,400. Experts recommend buying selectively in stocks, especially in the IT and banking sectors.

US Stands By South Korea After Yoon Suk Yeol’s Impeachment

On December 15, 2023, the United States expressed its strong support for South Korea and its people after President Yoon Suk Yeol was impeached. This happened because he tried to declare martial law, which caused a big disagreement.

Matthew Miller, a spokesperson for the US Department of State, said that the friendship (or alliance) between the US and South Korea is very strong and that they have worked well together in recent years. He stated, “Our commitment to this alliance is unbreakable.” Miller also said the US is ready to work with the new acting president, Han Duck-soo, and continue to support South Korea’s democratic values.

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken also spoke about the situation. He highlighted that South Korea showed it can handle challenges democratically and peacefully. “We support the Korean people and our strong friendship,” Blinken stated.

The political situation in South Korea has been tough lately. President Yoon was impeached by the National Assembly after trying to impose martial law. The assembly voted 204 to 85 to remove him from office. Yoon will remain suspended while the country’s Constitutional Court reviews the situation. In the meantime, Prime Minister Han Duck-soo is stepping in as the acting president.

  • Broadcom Surges to $1 Trillion Valuation on AI Chip Demand!

Broadcom Surges to $1 Trillion Valuation on AI Chip Demand!

Broadcom Inc., a company that makes chips for many technology businesses, including Apple, reached a market value of $1 trillion for the first time last Friday. This happened after the company forecasted a big increase in demand for its artificial intelligence (AI) chips. Broadcom expects sales of its AI products to jump by 65% in the first three months of this year, which is much higher than its overall growth in chips of 10%.

By the year 2027, Broadcom believes that the market for AI components it designs could reach $90 billion. Broadcom’s stock price rose by 24% to $224.80, marking its biggest one-day price increase since 2009.

Similar to Nvidia, Broadcom is becoming a key player in the growing AI market. CEO Hock Tan announced that the company secured two big new customers that run huge data centers. Investors have been excited about Broadcom’s stock this year, attracted by the potential of AI.

The company is based in Palo Alto, California, and it predicts it will make over $10 billion from AI products, even more than from other types of business. Last year, this number was about $12.2 billion. The demand for AI chips has surged, growing by 220% in the past year.

Broadcom says it expects total sales to be $14.6 billion this quarter, matching predictions. The company reported that its profit was $1.42 per share in the last quarter, with nearly $14.1 billion in revenue.

Data centers rely on Broadcom’s custom-designed chips for their AI systems. The company also sells components for cars, smartphones, and internet devices. Recently, it has expanded into software, offering products for cyber security and data center management.

In the last quarter, Broadcom’s chips earned $8.23 billion, which was a 12% increase. Software sales surprisingly grew nearly 200% to $5.82 billion. Broadcom has become much larger since 2023, partly because it bought VMware for around $69 billion.

Apple is Broadcom’s top client, as the company provides parts for iPhones. However, reports suggest that Apple will start using its own chip instead of Broadcom’s next year, which could also affect Qualcomm. Yet, Tan confirmed that Broadcom will remain closely linked with Apple for future projects and is open to more acquisitions.

  • South Korea’s Political Crisis: Impeachment of President Yoon Explained

South Korea’s Political Crisis: Impeachment of President Yoon Explained

On Sunday, the opposition leader in South Korea asked the Constitutional Court to quickly decide on whether to remove President Yoon Suk Yeol from office. This request came after parliament voted to impeach him because he tried to impose martial law for just a few hours.

While the court is deciding, Yoon’s powers are suspended, which means he can’t make decisions for the country. The court has 180 days to make its ruling, and if they remove Yoon, a new election for his replacement must happen within 60 days.

The Prime Minister, Han Duck-soo, is now running things while Yoon is suspended. Han was chosen by Yoon, but the current government has found it hard to pass laws because the opposition party controls parliament.

Lee Jae-myung, the leader of the opposition Democratic Party, spoke to the media on Sunday. He said a quick court ruling is essential to avoid further problems for the country. Lee suggested creating a national council where the government and parliament can talk and work together to solve issues. He emphasized that cooperation between political parties is important to overcome the standstill caused by Yoon’s decision.

Lee also mentioned that the Democratic Party won’t try to impeach Han for not stopping Yoon’s short-lived martial law, saying it could create more confusion. He stressed the importance of working with all parties to stabilize the country and regain international trust.

Yoon’s attempt at martial law on December 3 was the first in over forty years. It lasted only six hours but created a political crisis and scared financial markets. Parliament quickly voted to cancel the martial law when Yoon sent troops and police to the building to try to stop them, but no major violence happened.

Opposition leaders accuse Yoon of trying to rebel against parliament, arguing that the president can only declare martial law during wars or serious emergencies, and even then, he cannot stop parliament’s work. Yoon defends his actions, claiming he was trying to warn the Democratic Party, which he calls anti-government because it has often challenged his authority and delayed important budget plans.
