Lisa Su: The CEO Behind AMD’s $210 Billion Success Story

Lisa Su is the CEO of AMD, a big chip-making company worth $210 billion. Recently, she talked about the work culture at AMD, where employees often work on weekends and have early morning meetings after reading emails sent late at night. This tough work style may not be for everyone. A former AMD executive, Patrick Moorhead, says those who don’t keep up with their work find it hard to stay at the company.

Lisa expects her team to discuss complicated documents during these morning meetings right after sending them out at midnight. She is also very involved in the details, even checking prototype chips when they arrive from the factory.

Lisa was born in Taiwan but moved to the U.S. when she was only three years old so her dad could go to graduate school. Growing up in New York City, she learned how to write simple computer programs at a young age. Lisa studied at MIT, where she got her degree in electrical engineering and later earned a PhD in the same field.

She started her career at Texas Instruments and IBM before joining AMD in 2012 as a Vice President. Just two years later, she became CEO. Lisa feels lucky about her career, saying she got to try different jobs every couple of years. Today, AMD is worth $210 billion under her leadership.

BJP Leaders Switch to AAP Amid Controversies and Upcoming Delhi Elections

On Sunday, Ramesh Pehalwan, a leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and his wife Kusumlata joined the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). They made this switch in front of Arvind Kejriwal, the leader of AAP. This news comes as we get closer to the Delhi Assembly elections expected in early 2025.

Earlier this week, Kejriwal confirmed that AAP will not team up with the Congress party for these elections. He mentioned on social media that AAP will rely on its own efforts in Delhi instead of forming a partnership with Congress.

Devendra Yadav, the President of the Congress in Delhi, recently criticized AAP for the worsening safety situation in the city. He insisted that Kejriwal should ask for the resignation of Delhi Chief Minister Atishi, similar to how he once demanded the resignation of former Chief Minister Sheila Dixit during the Nirbhaya case. Yadav stated that women in Delhi are facing increased dangers from crimes like gang violence, shootings, murders, rapes, harassment, and theft.

On Friday, AAP announced its third list of candidates for the 2025 elections, picking Tarun Yadav to represent the Najafgarh area. Previously, AAP released a second candidates’ list, which removed 17 current members of the legislative assembly, choosing to replace them with new faces. However, they decided to re-nominate three well-known figures: Manish Sisodia and Rakhi Birla, who are current members, and Deepu Chaudhary, a former candidate from the last elections.

While Congress was dominant in Delhi for 15 years, it has struggled recently. In the last two assembly elections, they didn’t win even one seat. In the 2020 elections, AAP won 62 out of 70 seats, and the BJP managed to secure just eight seats.

  • Mani Shankar Aiyar Shares Candid Thoughts on Congress and the Gandhis

Mani Shankar Aiyar Shares Candid Thoughts on Congress and the Gandhis

In an interview with PTI, senior Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar talked about tough times for his party in 2012. He pointed out two big problems: Sonia Gandhi got very sick and Manmohan Singh had six heart bypass surgeries. Aiyar believes that if different leaders had made different choices, Congress might have avoided a huge loss in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. He said, “In 2012, we were in trouble because our top leaders were unwell.”

Aiyar thinks that if Dr. Manmohan Singh had become President and Pranab Mukherjee had been Prime Minister, the party would still have lost in 2014, but not in such a bad way, ending up with only 44 seats.

He also shared his thoughts about the Gandhi family. Aiyar noted that his political life was both helped and hurt by them. He talked about how he didn’t get much chance to meet Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, or Priyanka Gandhi directly. “For 10 years, I couldn’t meet Sonia one-on-one,” he said, adding that he only met Rahul a couple of times and Priyanka just twice.

In a funny moment, he recounted how he wished Rahul a happy birthday through Priyanka because he was suspended from the party at the time. Priyanka was surprised and asked why he couldn’t just talk to Rahul. He explained that being suspended meant he couldn’t.

Aiyar also remembered a curious conversation with Sonia Gandhi after he wished her “Merry Christmas.” She surprising replied, “I’m not a Christian,” which caught him off guard. He added that he doesn’t believe in any religion but respects all of them.

Overall, Aiyar is a former diplomat and a well-known politician, having represented his area in the Lok Sabha and serving in the Rajya Sabha. He is sharing these reflections as he prepares to release his new book, “A Maverick in Politics.”

In Bengaluru, a 34-year-old tech worker named Atul Subhash took his own life on December 9. He left behind a long note that said he was mistreated by his wife, Nikita Singhania, and her family. Recently, police arrested Nikita in Gurugram, her mother Nisha Singhania in Allahabad, and her brother Anurag Singhania. They are now in jail while the police investigate.

In his note, Subhash claimed that his wife had filed nine serious cases against him. These included claims of murder, domestic abuse, and financial mistreatment. He mentioned that a judge had asked for a big amount of money, Rs 5 lakh, to “solve” one case. In his note, he insisted that he wanted justice.

Subhash’s father, Pawan Kumar, said his son was very upset about the difficult legal battles he faced. He expressed that his son was suffering inside and felt that corruption was everywhere but wanted to continue fighting for what was right.

The tragic event has also made people talk about how divorce and money disputes can hurt individuals emotionally. Recently, the Supreme Court clarified how alimony should be calculated, considering the living standards and income of both partners. In another case, a banker had to pay Rs 5 crore to his ex-wife for their long fight over money.

Now, Subhash’s family wants their grandson, who is with Nikita, to be returned to them. Pawan Kumar has reached out to Prime Minister Modi and other leaders for help, saying they are worried about the child’s safety and well-being. They are anxious because they don’t know where he is.

The story of Atul Subhash is raising important questions about legal issues that many families face during divorce and custody battles. As the investigation continues, it highlights not just their pain, but the need for better laws to protect families in similar situations.

  • Siraj’s Hilarious Bail Flip: A Lucky Charm in Cricket?

Siraj’s Hilarious Bail Flip: A Lucky Charm in Cricket?

Recently, cricketer Mohammed Siraj was in the news for losing 20% of his match fee after arguing with Australian batsman Travis Head. But now, he has grabbed attention for a different reason during the third Test match at GABBA, Brisbane.

Siraj, who has only taken one wicket in this match, showed he is willing to try different tricks to disturb the batsmen. A funny moment went viral when Siraj walked over to Australian player Marnus Labuschagne and switched the two bails at the top of the stumps!

A Little History on Bail Flips
Bail flips are not new. Former England bowler Stuart Broad performed a bail flip during the 2023 Ashes series, and right after, Labuschagne got out! Indian superstar Virat Kohli also did a bail flip in the first Test against South Africa in Centurion, while Australian spinner Nathan Lyon used the same trick during the 2019 Ashes before getting two England players out very quickly.

When Siraj returned to bowl, Labuschagne quickly changed the bails back to their original positions. So, what is a bail flip in cricket? It’s when players change the position of the bails as a lucky charm, hoping it might help them get a wicket.

  • India’s Tourism to Reach $523 Billion with Millions of New Jobs

India’s Tourism to Reach $523 Billion with Millions of New Jobs

The Indian tourism industry is set to grow tremendously! According to Julia Simpson, the President of the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC), it will reach a value of USD 523 billion in the next ten years. Currently, it’s worth about USD 256 billion and gives jobs to 45 million people.

Tourism is important for India, making up around 7% of the country’s economy. In 2019, it was worth USD 211 billion. Despite growing, tourism in India contributes to around 5% of the country’s greenhouse gas emissions, which is about 250 billion kilograms of carbon dioxide each year. This makes India’s tourism sector the third largest contributor to emissions, after the US and China. However, there’s good news! While tourism is growing, the emissions are not increasing at the same pace. This shows that India is becoming more efficient in travel and tourism.

Julia also expressed the need for sustainable aviation fuel since flying is a big part of tourism. She encourages the Indian government to support the production of this fuel, allowing for more eco-friendly travel.

The travel and tourism sector provides many job opportunities, from engineers and technology experts to those entering the workforce for the first time. About half of all global tourism happens in coastal areas, which are at risk from climate change. To protect these beautiful beaches, cities like Miami invest in reinforcing their coastlines and improving infrastructure for extreme weather.

Visitors want to enjoy India’s natural beauty, not just tall buildings. Therefore, WTTC wants to work with the Indian government to help restore nature along the coast. Julia believes a big step for India is to quickly reduce pollution from road transport. Prime Minister Modi is focused on cleaning up air pollution and moving towards renewable energy. She believes that under his leadership, India will become one of the most advanced developing economies in the world
