New Delhi Weather: Dust Storms, Rainfall, and Safety Tips
New Delhi experienced strong dust storms and strong winds recently. On Saturday, the maximum temperature dipped to 35.2 degrees Celsius, which is 0.9 degrees below normal. The air felt quite humid, with humidity levels between 41% and 78%. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported that the capital saw a little rain, measuring 0.7 mm from 8:30 am Friday to Saturday.
The most rain fell in Ayanagar, measuring 4 mm, while other areas like Pitampura, Palam, and Ridge saw lesser amounts. In Safdarjung, only 0.7 mm of rain was recorded, and Lodhi Road, Pusa, and Mayur Vihar had 0.5 mm each.
The minimum temperature dropped to 19 degrees Celsius, which is 2 degrees below the normal for this season. The weather turned suddenly on Friday, following the dust storms, leading to a sharp temperature decrease.
Sadly, two people lost their lives during these storms, including a 10-year-old girl named Avani, who died when a part of a building fell on her. In another incident, a 67-year-old man, Chander Pal, also died when construction materials fell from a roof.
The IMD had warned citizens of possible bad weather and suggested they stay inside, secure their homes, and avoid unnecessary travel.
Looking ahead to Sunday, the weather is expected to be partly cloudy, with temperatures reaching a maximum of 37 degrees and a minimum of 20 degrees Celsius.
As for the air quality, it was in the ‘moderate’ category with an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 166 at 4 pm. AQI values vary from 0-50 (good) to 401-500 (severe).

Karnataka Renames Tumkur Railway Station to Honor Shivakumara Swamiji
The Karnataka government has decided to rename the Tumkur Railway Station, which has the code ‘TK’, to Dr. Shri Shri Shivakumara Swamiji Railway Station. This station is part of the South Western Railway zone in India.
In a letter sent on April 8, the Karnataka government asked the Ministry of Home Affairs to approve this name change quickly. The letter explained that the Sri Siddaganga Mutt is very important to people in the state, as it has been helping those in need by providing food, shelter, and education for many years.
Padmabhushan Dr. Shri Shri Shivakumara Mahaswamiji led the Mutt starting in 1930 and served the community for almost 87 years. Many people, including Presidents and Prime Ministers, have visited the Mutt and praised the great work done by Mahaswamiji.
The Karnataka government hopes the Ministry of Home Affairs will support their proposal to rename the Tumkur Railway Station to honor this influential leader as soon as possible. -
YouTubers Jaspreet Singh and Others Questioned by Assam Police for Obscenity
Popular YouTuber Jaspreet Singh visited the Assam Police on Saturday because he, along with four others, is being investigated for promoting inappropriate content during a publicly shown online show. An officer stated that Singh was questioned by the investigating officer from the Guwahati Police’s Crime Branch in the afternoon, and his statement was recorded.
Another YouTuber, Samay Raina, had previously appeared for questioning on April 5. The only one left to be questioned is Apoorva Makhija. The police had sent messages to Singh and Makhija after they emailed saying they were out of the country, asking them to come in for questioning.
The Guwahati Police has accused Raina, Singh, popular influencer Ranveer Allahabadia, and Ashish Chanchlani, among others, of sharing obscene and vulgar discussions on an online show. They claim this could harm public decency and morality.
The crime branch registered the case under several laws, including those related to obscenity and the protection of women. Ranveer Allahabadia appeared before the police on March 7 and was questioned for more than four hours. He promised to cooperate with future inquiries, including coming back to Guwahati. A top court granted him safety from arrest but called his comments “vulgar.”
Ashish Chanchlani was the first to be questioned, appearing on February 27, and he received pre-arrest bail earlier in February. Besides these five YouTubers, the owner of the location where the controversial show was filmed is also involved in the case. -
Stalin Claims AIADMK-BJP Alliance is Doomed to Fail in Tamil Nadu
Tamil Nadu’s Chief Minister, MK Stalin, criticized the recent partnership between AIADMK and BJP for the upcoming 2026 assembly elections. He believes this alliance is “doomed to fail” and is based only on their “hunger for power,” without any real ideas or beliefs behind it.
After being apart for nearly two years, AIADMK and BJP announced their reunion, with Amit Shah saying that Edappadi K Palaniswami will lead them in the election. Shah also accused the ruling DMK of distracting people from important issues.
Stalin, however, disagrees and called AIADMK an “old bonded slave camp,” suggesting that they have lost their independence to BJP. He believes that BJP’s plans would harm Tamil Nadu’s rights and its language, Tamil.
Stalin warned that whether BJP runs alone or with partners, the people of Tamil Nadu are prepared to teach them a lesson for betraying Tamil Nadu’s interests. He pointed out that Amit Shah did not explain why the alliance was formed or how it would help the people, merely saying that a “Common Minimum Programme” would be created.
Stalin emphasized that this AIADMK-BJP partnership goes against the values important to Tamil culture, like language and local rights. He accused Palaniswami of giving up the state’s pride just to stay in power and suggested that corruption is at the heart of their alliance.

Violence Erupts Over Waqf Act Protests in West Bengal
There has been violence in Murshidabad district, West Bengal, with two people reported dead. The trouble started during protests against the Waqf Act, which deals with the management of religious endowments for Muslims.

Dust Storm Causes Delhi Airport Chaos: Over 200 Flights Delayed
After strong dust storms and high winds hit Delhi, there was a big mess at the airport. More than 200 flights were delayed, and about 50 had to land somewhere else. A senior official said, “After the dust storm, many flights were canceled or redirected, causing long waits for passengers at the airport. The diverted flights took time to get to Delhi, leading to a crowded airport.”
Passengers complained that airline employees didn’t have clear answers about the delays. One traveler, Dr. HY Desai, shared their frustration about their flight, AI 2512, which was supposed to leave at 7:30 PM on April 11, 2025. “We waited all night with no updates. They didn’t even provide basic needs like food and water for families and children,” they wrote. They felt that the airport security didn’t help either and just sided with the airline staff instead of addressing the passengers’ complaints.
As of 6:53 AM on April 12, 2025, flight AI 2512 still hadn’t left the airport. Delhi faced a sudden change in weather on Friday evening, prompting the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue an orange alert, indicating that bad weather might last until Saturday evening.

Fatal Bus Crash in Basti: Two Dead, 15 Injured in Highway Accident
In Basti, a tragic accident happened late last night when a double-decker bus crashed into a parked truck on National Highway 28. The bus was speeding from Gorakhpur to Lucknow when it hit the truck, which had broken down and was parked by the side of the road near the Vikramjot crossing.
The crash was so powerful that the front of the bus was severely damaged. Sadly, two people lost their lives at the scene, and 15 others were hurt. Passengers were thrown around inside the bus due to the force of the impact, and many of them suffered serious injuries.
Local police, led by officer Ritesh Singh, quickly arrived at the scene and took the injured to a nearby Community Health Centre. Among the injured, there were children and elderly people from Bihar and Rajasthan, with some being transferred to a larger hospital in Ayodhya for more care. Authorities reported that seven of the injured are in critical condition.
The police confirmed that they are working to identify the two victims who died and are also investigating the incident further to ensure safety measures are taken.
