Hockey India has made a big announcement by teaming up with Doordarshan (DD) for the next three years to broadcast the Hockey India League (HIL) all over the country. They are also talking to other TV channels to get even more people to watch the league. Bhola Nath Singh, who is part of the HIL Governing Committee and Hockey India Secretary, said this partnership shows how they want to make hockey “India ka khel” (India’s game). He believes that everyone will be able to watch the matches thanks to DD’s large audience.
While Doordarshan was the first to support HIL, Singh mentioned that other channels are excited about the league too. “We want to reach as many fans as possible! We will have two main TV partners and several streaming options to connect with different types of audiences. More details on other partners will come out soon,” Singh added.
The league aims to provide high-quality production, expert voices, and solid analysis to make the viewing experience enjoyable for fans. Singh also talked about making the league financially strong, beyond just TV earnings. He shared that they have plans for sponsorship, innovative partnerships, and lots of ways to engage fans online and at events. He said, “Hockey’s popularity is growing, especially after India won medals at the Olympics, creating excitement from companies and fans. This energy, along with careful planning, will help the league succeed in the long run.”
Hockey India is expected to announce its title sponsor soon to make the league even more financially ready. In October, Hockey India brought back the HIL after a seven-year break. The 2024-25 season will see the return of the men’s league and the start of a women’s league. Starting in 2024-25, the HIL will include eight men’s teams and six women’s teams, playing at the same time. Well-known sports companies have already invested in both leagues.
Here are some of the men’s team owners:
– Chennai: Charles Group
– Lucknow: Yadu Sports
– Punjab: JSW Sports
– West Bengal: Shrachi Sports
– Delhi: SG Sports and Entertainment
– Odisha: Vedanta
– Hyderabad: Resolute Sports
– Ranchi: Navoyam Sports Ventures
And for the women’s teams:
– Haryana: JSW Sports
– West Bengal: Shrachi Sports
– Delhi: SG Sports and Entertainment
– Odisha: Navoyam Sports Ventures
There are plans to introduce two more women’s teams once some legal matters are sorted out. The cost for a men’s team has been set at Rs 7 crore per year, while a women’s team will cost Rs 3 crore per year. This shows the league’s dedication to promoting both men’s and women’s hockey in India.

Pakistan Accepts ICC Champions Trophy Hybrid Model: What’s Next?
After months of discussions and excitement about the ICC Champions Trophy and where it will be held, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has finally accepted a new plan. This plan allows India to play their matches in Dubai, while all other games will take place in Pakistan.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had previously told the International Cricket Council (ICC) weeks ago that they wouldn’t travel to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy due to lack of approval from the Indian government, mostly because of ongoing political issues between India and Pakistan. This situation led to talks about using a “hybrid model,” which was already tried during last year’s Asia Cup. In that tournament, only a few matches were played in Pakistan, while most took place in Sri Lanka. The ICC was also reportedly supportive of BCCI because of instability in Islamabad.
Initially, PCB was not willing to accept the hybrid model for the Champions Trophy. However, according to a report in Times of India, they were warned that they might lose the right to host the tournament. The ICC and BCCI were firm on this matter, so PCB decided to agree. “I don’t want to comment too much because that can ruin things. We have shared our views with the ICC, and the Indians have shared theirs. The goal is to find a solution that works for everyone,” PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi told reporters in Dubai. He added, “Cricket should win, and that’s the most important thing for us. We want to do what is best for cricket, and we will ensure that it is fair.”
In return, the PCB asked the ICC to use the hybrid model for all future ICC tournaments held in India until 2031. India is set to host four ICC tournaments in the next seven years, including the T20 World Cup in 2026 and the ODI World Cup in 2031. They will also hold the Champions Trophy in 2029 and the Women’s World Cup in 2025.
Additionally, the PCB requested a bigger share of the ICC’s revenue as compensation. Currently, they receive six percent less than the BCCI’s share of 38%. The ICC had offered compensation above the hosting fees, but it is unlikely they will meet PCB’s demands since other countries would not agree to lower their shares, which would put pressure on BCCI. So far, BCCI has not committed to any additional requests.

Rohit Sharma’s Son Ahaan: A Heartfelt Christmas Reveal!
India’s cricket captain, Rohit Sharma, and his wife, Ritika Sajdeh, have welcomed their second child – a baby boy named Ahaan. Ritika shared the exciting news with a fun Christmas-themed post on Instagram. In the post, the family was depicted as cut-out figures with their names: Rohit and Ritika were called ‘Ro’ and ‘Rits,’ their daughter was named ‘Sammy’ for Samaira, and their newborn son was revealed to be Ahaan.
Rohit missed the first Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series against Australia because the baby was born on November 15. He joined the Indian team about a week later in Perth, where India won the match by a huge 295 runs.
As Rohit prepares for the second Test in Adelaide, he hinted at a position change. Normally, he bats at the top of the order, but due to KL Rahul’s impressive performance in the first Test, Rohit might bat at number 5 instead. This news came after the team list was shared for a practice match against the Prime Minister’s XI, showing Rohit’s name listed at number 5.
Interestingly, it’s been a while since Rohit batted at this position; the last time was in 2018, where he played 16 innings and scored 437 runs in 9 matches.

Siraj Shines in Warm-Up Match Against Australia’s PM XI!
Mohammed Siraj made a strong start in India’s warm-up match against the Australian Prime Minister’s XI on Sunday. The match was delayed due to rain, but once the weather cleared up, the game began in Canberra.
Siraj, who has been doing great for India lately, started bowling before Jasprit Bumrah. His bowling was impressive right from the beginning, putting pressure on the Australian openers with his fast deliveries.
One funny moment happened when a security guard accidentally blocked Siraj’s view while he was ready to bowl. Siraj, feeling frustrated, jokingly asked the guard in Hindi, “Hey brother, are you wandering in a garden?” This line reminded everyone of a famous quote by Indian captain Rohit Sharma from a previous situation.
Despite the distraction, Siraj quickly refocused and soon took the important wicket of Matt Renshaw, who scored just five runs. Siraj’s powerful and disciplined bowling helped India start strong, as they prepare for the upcoming pink-ball Test against Australia. The warm-up match is being played in a 50 overs-per-side format. India chose to field first after winning the toss.

Deepak Chahar Joins Mumbai Indians: IPL 2025 Mega Auction Highlights
The 2025 IPL mega auction was full of surprises, with 577 players being sold over two exciting days in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. One of the biggest names on the move was Deepak Chahar, a top fast bowler in India. After having seven great years with the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), he was let go before the auction and was picked up by the Mumbai Indians (MI) for a massive ₹9.25 crore!
Chahar joined CSK in 2018 and became a very important part of their bowling team. He did a great job, especially in the first few overs of the game, helping CSK win three IPL titles in 2018, 2021, and 2023 with his key wickets and strong performance.
Throughout 76 matches with CSK, he took 76 wickets, showing that he is one of the most dependable bowlers in the league. Chahar expressed his gratitude to MS Dhoni, the former captain of CSK, saying, “Mahi bhai has supported me from the start. That’s why I wanted to come here. However, my name came up during the second day of the auction, so I knew it would be hard for me to return to CSK.”
Chahar also shared a sweet memory from 2021 when he proposed to his girlfriend, Jaya Bharadwaj, in the stands after a match. This made his IPL journey very special!
Though it was tough for CSK to let go of Chahar, it turned out to be a big win for MI. With his talent and experience, Chahar will likely play a big role for MI in the upcoming season, adding even more strength to their strong bowling lineup.

Prithvi Shaw’s IPL 2025 Auction Snub: A Lesson in Discipline and Focus
Prithvi Shaw, a talented young cricketer, didn’t get picked by any team in the IPL 2025 auction. Many people are surprised, including former players and Delhi Capitals co-owner Parth Jindal. Pravin Amre, who worked closely with Shaw at Delhi Capitals, believes that Shaw might have struggled to handle the fame and lifestyle that comes with being a cricketer. Recently, Shaw bought a fancy penthouse in Bandra, a rich area in Mumbai.
At just 25, Shaw was once seen as a cricket superstar after winning the Under-19 World Cup for India in 2018 and signing a big contract with Delhi Capitals. But Amre thinks success distracted him and caused problems in his game. Amre shared that Shaw earned ₹30-40 crores by 23, which is a lot of money for someone so young. This wealth and fame may have led Shaw to lose focus on his cricket.
Shaw started his career with a bang, scoring a century in his Test debut, but an injury later sidelined him. In 2020, he got an 8-month ban for using a banned substance, and reports of his indiscipline followed. Despite guidance from cricket legends like Sachin Tendulkar and Vinod Kambli, Shaw continued to face issues, including being dropped from Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy squad for being overweight.
Even though he has struggled recently, Shaw was still performing well in practice matches. Amre believes that Shaw can recover if he learns from his mistakes. He emphasized that talent alone isn’t enough; players need discipline and determination to succeed. -
Champions Trophy Drama: PCB Faces Tough Choices As ICC Warns Of CT Without Pakistan
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has been told by the International Cricket Council (ICC) to either accept a new plan for the Champions Trophy next year or risk not being part of the tournament at all. This situation arose because India doesn’t want to come to Pakistan for the games due to safety worries.
An urgent meeting took place in Dubai to plan the event, which is set for February and March next year. Under the proposed “Hybrid” model, India would play its matches in the UAE instead of Pakistan. However, the PCB boss, Mohsin Naqvi, doesn’t want to agree to this setup.
Most ICC board members sympathize with Pakistan, but they believe accepting the Hybrid model is the best way to go forward. If the model is chosen, India will play its matches in the UAE and not in Pakistan. An ICC Board source mentioned that if the PCB doesn’t agree to the Hybrid Model, the whole tournament might be moved to another country, possibly the UAE, and Pakistan could be left out completely.
The meeting on Friday was brief after Naqvi repeated his stance. The outgoing ICC chair, Greg Barclay, led the meeting as this was his last official engagement before Jay Shah takes over next month. The Ministry of External Affairs in India has supported the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), stating that the Indian team cannot go to Pakistan due to security concerns.
If the tournament has to be moved, the PCB could lose out on $6 million in hosting fees and significant gate revenue—which could cut their earnings down to $35 million a year. The ICC also faces problems since their broadcaster, Star, might change their multi-billion dollar deal if the situation doesn’t get resolved soon.
The only time available for this tournament is from February 19 to March 9, and all other teams have games scheduled after those dates. While the PCB could ask for compensation for not being able to host the event fully, it’s unlikely that it will happen in Pakistan.
Pakistani cricket officials could respond by not attending the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in India in 2025. A senior BCCI official said that while Pakistan could demand a Hybrid Model for the 2025 Women’s T20 World Cup, it might not work. Most of Pakistan’s matches in the T20 World Cup next year will likely happen in Sri Lanka. -
India Shines in Perth: A Big Win Against Australia
On November 25, 2024, Indian cricket fans were buzzing with excitement at the Optus Stadium in Perth as their team celebrated a stunning victory! India defeated Australia by 295 runs, taking the lead in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series.
The match began with Australia struggling at just 12 runs with three wickets down. Jasprit Bumrah’s appeal for a leg-before-wicket (lbw) was turned down for a no-ball, giving Australian captain Steve Smith a lucky break. However, Usman Khawaja wasn’t as fortunate; he hit a loose shot off Mohammed Siraj and caught out to Rishabh Pant behind the stumps.
Travis Head then joined Smith, and the two tried to build a partnership. Head survived a tricky moment when an lbw appeal was overturned and quickly got aggressive, hitting several powerful shots. But it was Siraj who struck back, getting Smith out with a fantastic delivery.
Before lunch, Head and Mitchell Marsh managed to keep Australia steady at 104 for five. Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma practiced in the nets, getting ready for upcoming matches in Adelaide.
After the break, Marsh hit a six, but Bumrah finally took Head’s wicket when he was on 89. A partnership worth 82 runs had come to an end. Soon after, Nitish Kumar bowled out Marsh, pushing Australia to a shaky 182 for seven.
Even with Alex Carey and Mitchell Starc at the crease, it was clear that Australia was struggling. Just before the tea break, Starc was caught out by Dhruv Jurel with a quick reflex catch.
Australia was reeling at 227 for eight, and soon after, Washington Sundar bowled out Nathan Lyon. With Burke’s wicket, India celebrated as their bowlers wrapped up the innings.
Final Score:
– India 1st Innings: 150 all out in 49.4 overs
– Australia 1st Innings: 104 all out in 51.2 overs
– India 2nd Innings: 487 for 6 declared in 134.3 overs
– Australia 2nd Innings: 238 all out in 58.4 overs
The match showcased superb bowling by Bumrah, Siraj, and Washington, while Australia struggled to keep up. The next battle is set for December 6 in Adelaide!
