  • Rain Wreaks Havoc as Australia Leads India in Third Test Match

Rain Wreaks Havoc as Australia Leads India in Third Test Match

Brisbane, Australia — Travis Head helped Australia finish India’s first innings at 260 runs, giving Australia an 185-run lead on the last day of the third cricket test on Wednesday. However, more cricket wasn’t possible because of lightning and heavy rain at the Gabba.

After four days of play, India was at 252-9 in their first innings, needing to make up 193 runs. Thankfully, India scored quickly towards the end to avoid following on and let Australia bat again—if the weather allowed it.

The series is tied at 1-1, but this crucial test match turned into a rain-filled disappointment. Rain delays have caused problems, and tickets have been refunded for about 35,000 fans who attended the first day since not enough overs were played. Just 13 overs were bowled on the first day, and there were eight rain stoppages on the third day.

On Tuesday, rain kept interrupting the game. Play ended after only 58 overs were bowled that day, and Wednesday didn’t seem any better.

Unfortunately, Australia might have to play with one less bowler since Josh Hazlewood hurt his calf. He could only bowl one over before leaving the field. Hazlewood was already late to play and looked uncomfortable when he bowled.

Cricket Australia’s performance director, Ben Oliver, mentioned, “Josh was fit for this match but got a new calf injury during warm-up.” Scott Boland, who took five wickets in Adelaide, is expected to return for the test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground starting on December 26.

India won the first test by 295 runs in Perth, while Australia rebounded to take the second day-night test in Adelaide by 10 wickets.

  • Vinícius Júnior Wins Best Player at FIFA ‘The Best’ Awards 2024!

Vinícius Júnior Wins Best Player at FIFA ‘The Best’ Awards 2024!

Vinícius Júnior, a player from Real Madrid, finally won a big award on Tuesday as he was named the Best Men’s Player at FIFA’s “The Best” ceremony. This came after he missed out on the Ballon d’Or award in October to Rodri from Manchester City. Vinícius and his teammates didn’t attend the Ballon d’Or award show in Paris as a form of protest.

At the same event, Aitana Bonmati from Barcelona won the award for Best Women’s Player. Meanwhile, Alejandro Garnacho from Manchester United won the Puskas Award for his amazing overhead goal against Everton in the Premier League.

Unlike the Ballon d’Or, Vinícius beat Rodri by just five points to take home the award. Vinícius was there in Doha because his team was playing in the Intercontinental Cup final against Pachuca. He shared his journey, saying, “I don’t even know where to begin. It was so far away that it seemed impossible to get here. I was a kid who only played football barefoot on the streets near poverty and crime. Getting here is very important to me. I’m doing it for other kids who think everything is impossible.”

Real Madrid also won another award as Carlo Ancelotti was named the Best Men’s Coach. He led the team to victory in La Liga and the Champions League last season.

Here’s the complete list of winners from FIFA’s “The Best” awards for 2024:
    – Best Men’s Player: Vinícius Júnior
    – Best Women’s Player: Aitana Bonmati

  • Mitchell Santner Named New Zealand’s New ODI and T20I Captain!

Mitchell Santner Named New Zealand’s New ODI and T20I Captain!

Good news for New Zealand cricket fans! Mitchell Santner has officially taken over as the captain of the One Day International (ODI) and Twenty20 International (T20I) teams. This announcement was made on Wednesday.

Santner has played 243 international matches for New Zealand and has already led the team in 24 T20I matches and four ODIs. He’s been captain since Kane Williamson stepped down following the T20 World Cup this year.

Santner will start his new full-time role in the upcoming series against Sri Lanka, which will happen in late December and early January. This series will kick off a busy time for the team, including an ODI Tri-Series in Pakistan in February. After that, they will compete in the ICC Champions Trophy and face Pakistan in both T20I and ODI matches at home.

Santner expressed his excitement about his new role, saying, “I’m really honored to be asked. It’s a big deal for me to officially lead my country in two formats. It’s a new challenge, and I’m eager to get started.”

He recently led New Zealand in their T20I and ODI series in Sri Lanka. Santner is known for being one of the best white-ball bowlers in the world and is one of only four players in New Zealand to have played over 100 T20I and ODI matches. He first captained the T20I team against the West Indies in November 2020 and became the ODI captain during a game against Scotland in 2022.

This is an exciting time for New Zealand cricket as some older players are moving on, giving younger players a chance to step up and help the team succeed.

New Zealand’s head coach, Gary Stead, praised Santner, saying, “Mitch is a great team player and leads by example. He’s calm and collected, earning a lot of respect in the team. He has valuable experience leading the T20 team and did well in the recent ODI matches.”

Stead explained that this decision was made because they want Tom Latham, who is already a very good captain for the Test team, to focus fully on that job, which requires a lot of time and energy.

  • Ronaldo Aims to Become CBF President and Revitalize Brazilian Football

Ronaldo Aims to Become CBF President and Revitalize Brazilian Football

Brazilian football legend Ronaldo has shared his big dream: he wants to be the president of Brazil’s football governing body, the CBF. He believes the sport is in trouble and wants to fix it.

In a recent interview, Ronaldo said, “I have many reasons to run, but the biggest one is to bring back respect for Brazilian football.” He plans to be a strong leader and make significant changes to help the national team, known as “the Selecao,” regain its glory as five-time world champions. He remembers scoring twice when Brazil won the 2002 World Cup against Germany and wants to inspire the current players to see the proud history of wearing the national jersey.

For Ronaldo to run for the CBF presidency, he needs support from local football clubs. He is ready to travel across Brazil to share his exciting ideas for improving football in the country. The next CBF election will happen between March 2025 and March 2026.

Currently, the CBF chief, Ednaldo Rodrigues, is facing criticism for how he has managed the national team. Ronaldo believes the issue goes beyond just one person. “My goal is to get people excited about the Selecao again. Right now, many fans feel indifferent when the team plays,” he said.

Ronaldo has also managed football clubs before. He bought majority control of Real Valladolid in Spain in 2018 and Cruzeiro, his first team in Brazil, in 2021. He sold his stake in Cruzeiro earlier this year. Now, Ronaldo is in talks to sell his share in Valladolid so nothing will stop him from running for CBF president.

  • KL Rahul Lauds Jadeja for Key 77 Runs in Brisbane Test

KL Rahul Lauds Jadeja for Key 77 Runs in Brisbane Test

Indian cricketer KL Rahul praised his teammate Ravindra Jadeja for his impressive 77 runs during the fourth day of the Brisbane Test. After sitting out the first two Tests, Jadeja got a chance to play and helped India avoid follow-on, even though his bowling didn’t go as planned.

Jadeja and Rahul teamed up to score 67 runs together when India faced a tough situation after skipper Rohit Sharma’s early exit. Rahul was full of praise for Jadeja’s talent as a lower-order batsman. “Jadeja was fantastic today. He has been a key player for us for many years,” Rahul said. “I was glad to build a partnership with him when he came to bat.”

Rahul emphasized the importance of Jadeja’s innings. He said it helped stabilize the team and allowed them to score enough runs to avoid follow-on. “Every run was valuable for us. Jadeja made it possible for us to get ahead,” Rahul explained.

Jadeja has a history of rescuing India with his batting, including crucial runs against England earlier this year and a 199-run partnership with Ravichandran Ashwin against Bangladesh.

Rahul noted that while people often focus on Jadeja’s bowling, they should also recognize his solid batting skills. “Jadeja knows what to do at the right time. He just keeps it simple and gets the job done,” Rahul added. “I really enjoy batting and practicing with him.”

  • India’s Challenge: Adapting to New Ball Conditions in Brisbane

India’s Challenge: Adapting to New Ball Conditions in Brisbane

In modern cricket, players are told to be brave and play freely. But can India hold their ground and save the Brisbane Test match? The truth is, cricketers need to adapt to the pitch conditions. While Australia’s pitches are usually good for batting, things have changed since December 2021, especially with the new Kookaburra ball.

This new ball, designed to make the game more exciting, has actually made it harder for batsmen to succeed. It has a different inner lining and extra lacquer, which keeps it harder for longer. This change makes it easier for bowlers to get movement, making batting tricky.

Steve Smith, a top Australian player, noticed this too. He said, “Since they changed the ball in 2021, batting has become more difficult, and the pitches are greener now.” This means that Indian batsmen need to rethink their strategies. While KL Rahul seems to have adjusted, others, like the top-order players, have struggled to do the same.

For example, India was struggling in their innings at various points: they went 73/6 in Perth, 109/6 in Adelaide, and now 74/5 in Brisbane. Luck is important, but it has to be earned.

Smith emphasized that the first 35 overs are crucial and hard for batsmen due to the ball’s movement. He mentioned that it’s one of the toughest times he has faced in his career. stats show that batting averages have dropped since 2021, indicating that players need to be more careful.

Rahul, who has been India’s best performer, believes that tightening defense is key. He said, “We need to respect that the first 30 overs are for the bowlers, and after that, we can take more risks with an older ball.”

If India’s players don’t improve their approach soon, they might face serious trouble in this series.

  • Sunil Gavaskar Criticizes Siraj’s Running Error in Brisbane Test

Sunil Gavaskar Criticizes Siraj’s Running Error in Brisbane Test

In the recent Brisbane Test match against Australia, Sunil Gavaskar was really angry after a confusing moment between Mohammed Siraj and Ravindra Jadeja almost cost India a wicket. It was Day 4 of the match, and India was trying hard to save the game, especially with rain helping them a bit. Every run mattered because they were down to just three wickets left.

The trouble happened in the 62nd over when India was at 200 runs and had 7 wickets down. On the last ball of the over, bowled by Pat Cummins, Siraj decided to run even though there was no chance to make it. He hit the ball but then went for a run that Jadeja had already declined. Luckily for India, Cummins threw the ball inaccurately, allowing Siraj and Jadeja to make an easy single by running on the overthrow.

Gavaskar wasn’t happy at all. He pointed out that instead of sprinting back into his crease, Siraj was chatting with Jadeja, showing poor cricket awareness. On live TV, Gavaskar said, “Why are they talking? There’s only one ball left! There’s no run, so just stay put. Siraj needs to be more aware; he’s a number 9 batter. He should be thinking about the team instead of taking silly risks.”
