  • Kartik Singh: 15-Year-Old Golf Pro Shines at DLF International Series

Kartik Singh: 15-Year-Old Golf Pro Shines at DLF International Series

In Gurugram, there was a foggy day at the DLF Golf and Country Club, making it tough for even the best golfers to play well. But 15-year-old Kartik Singh stood out at the International Series India event. He became the youngest Indian and the fourth youngest in Asia to make the cut in a professional golf tournament!

Kartik played a great second round, scoring one-under 71, which put him at four-over for the tournament, while the cut was set at 8-over par. He hit five birdies, which are like bonus points, but also had two bogeys and a double bogey.

“This is my home course, so I know it well. I thought if I played my best, I could keep up with the pros. I wasn’t happy with my game yesterday, but I’m glad I made the cut. I hope to play well this weekend,” he said after his second round.

However, his third round didn’t go as well. He started on the 11th hole, made a birdie, but then ended up with five bogeys and two double bogeys, falling to T-66 at 12-over par when play was stopped with nine holes left to play. He mentioned that being too aggressive can backfire on this tricky course.

This was only Kartik’s second professional tournament, and he called it a “dream come true” to play alongside famous golfers like Bryson DeChambeau, a two-time Major champion, and Joaquin Niemann. “I still can’t believe I’m playing with these guys,” he exclaimed, amazed by how far DeChambeau hits the ball.

Overall, 10 Indian golfers made the cut. Anirban Lahiri was leading at minus one while others like Gaganjeet Bhullar were just above par. As the third round started with a shotgun start, the leaderboard was changing until play halted due to darkness.

Paul Casey from Britain was doing great, scoring six-under during his nine holes in Round 3, while Lahiri and Bhullar were struggling at three-over after eight holes. Chilean golfer Niemann held the clubhouse lead with a score of seven-under after completing his eight holes in Round 3.

  • India Sends 88 Athletes to Asian Winter Games 2023 – Full Government Support!

India Sends 88 Athletes to Asian Winter Games 2023 – Full Government Support!

The sports ministry has given the go-ahead for a strong team of 88 Indian athletes to participate in the 9th Asian Winter Games in Harbin, China from February 7-14. This decision ends weeks of uncertainty about how many athletes would go.

The Indian team will include 59 athletes and 29 officials who will compete in events like alpine skiing, cross-country skiing, figure skating, short track speed skating, and speed skating. The government will pay for all their expenses.

However, the 23-member men’s ice hockey team and their seven support staff will be participating without any cost to the government. This means they will pay their own way. The chef-de-mission, who is a member of the Ice Hockey Association of India, is also going without costing the government anything.

Excitingly, this is the first time that the government is providing full financial support for Indian athletes in these winter sports through the Assistance to National Sports Federations (ANSF) Scheme. Earlier this month, the Indian Olympic Association sent the names of 76 athletes for approval, but the ministry only approved 41, as some of the athletes did not meet the required qualifications.

India Defeats England to Enter ICC Women’s U19 T20 World Cup Final!

India’s cricket team has made it to the final of the ICC Women’s U19 T20 World Cup! They beat England by nine wickets thanks to a great performance from their spinners and a solid fifty from Kamalini.

The final will be held on Sunday, where India will face South Africa. South Africa reached the final for the first time by defeating Australia in another semifinal earlier that day.

In the match against England, India’s left-arm spinners, Parunika Sisodia and Vaishnavi Sharma, shone by taking three wickets each. They helped keep England to a low score of 113 runs for 8 wickets.

India chased down this target easily, scoring 117 runs for just 1 wicket in 15 overs. G Trisha scored 35 runs quickly, and Kamalini shone with an unbeaten 56 runs. Trisha started strongly and helped India get off to a fast start, reaching 44 runs without losing a wicket in the first six overs.

Kamalini got a lucky chance when the England captain dropped a catch. Even after Trisha got out, Kamalini kept going, adding runs with Sanika Chalke. Kamalini’s batting was about smart shots rather than big hits, and England couldn’t find a way to get her out.

Earlier, England began their innings well, reaching 37 runs without losing a wicket. However, they struggled later and lost many wickets, mainly because they kept trying risky shots. England only managed to score 40 runs in the last 10 overs while losing six wickets.

In the end, England couldn’t get enough runs, and India won comfortably. Sisodia was named Player of the Match and said she focused on bowling accurately and getting the batters to make mistakes.
