  • Mehbooba Mufti Critiques J&K Assembly Speaker’s ‘Censorship’ Approach

Mehbooba Mufti Critiques J&K Assembly Speaker’s ‘Censorship’ Approach

PDP leader Mehbooba Mufti accused the speaker of the Jammu and Kashmir assembly, Abdul Rahim Rather, of acting like he is enforcing “martial law” while he should be protecting the rights of assembly members. Mufti made her comments on social media platform X after Rather expressed his unhappiness about the “unwanted publicity” around notices that lawmakers have shared about what they want to discuss in the assembly.

Rather stated that this kind of publicity might break the rules and asked members to stop doing it. However, Mehbooba Mufti argued that his job as Speaker is to ensure that the rights of all lawmakers are respected and not to censor them. She believes that keeping the public informed about what happens in the assembly is important and should not be viewed as against the rules.

Mufti pointed out that many important bills, like the recent Waqf bill, have been discussed openly for months. She said that sharing information about meetings and votes in advance helps to hold lawmakers accountable. She criticized Rather, saying it feels like he is enforcing “martial law” in a role that should be constitutional. The new budget session of the Jammu and Kashmir assembly starts on March 3.

Pope Francis in Critical Condition: Latest Health Update

Pope Francis had a calm night after struggling with breathing problems and receiving blood transfusions, according to the Vatican. Matteo Bruni, a Vatican spokesman, didn’t share if the 88-year-old pope was awake or had breakfast.

On Saturday, doctors said Pope Francis, who had part of a lung removed when he was younger, was in critical condition. He faced a serious asthma attack while being treated for pneumonia and a complicated lung infection.

To help him breathe, he received a lot of oxygen and blood transfusions because his platelet count was low. Platelets are important for stopping bleeding. The Vatican shared that the pope stayed alert and spent the day sitting in a chair, even though he felt more pain than the day before.

Doctors are cautious about his health due to his age, fragility, and ongoing lung issues. They warn that the biggest danger is if the infection spreads into his blood, leading to a serious condition called sepsis

India vs Pakistan: Exciting Showdown in ICC Champions Trophy 2025

Today, there is a big cricket match between India and Pakistan in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, taking place in Dubai. To wish good luck to the Indian cricket team, a special prayer ceremony called ‘puja’ and ‘aarti’ was held in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. This city is famous for hosting the Maha Kumbh Mela, a major spiritual festival.

Fans gathered by the riverside to join the ceremony, where a priest performed ‘aarti’ to bless the team. This match is one of the most important games in cricket, and fans from both India and Pakistan are very excited about it.

India began the Champions Trophy strongly, winning against Bangladesh earlier this week. Ahead of this intense match, former Indian cricketer Atul Wassan made an interesting comment. He said he hopes Pakistan wins this match because it will make the tournament more exciting. “If Pakistan wins, it creates a better contest,” he explained.

India has won the last five one-day matches against Pakistan, with Pakistan’s last win being in the final of this tournament back in 2017. Recently, in the 2023 World Cup, India defeated Pakistan easily, bowling them out for 191 runs while chasing the target comfortably.

Matches between India and Pakistan attract a lot of attention, even from those who aren’t big cricket fans. This year’s rivalry match is something everyone will enjoy watching at home on Sunday!

  • Elon Musk’s Job Report Demand Sparks Controversy Among Federal Workers

Elon Musk’s Job Report Demand Sparks Controversy Among Federal Workers

Recently, Elon Musk, who advises former President Donald Trump, made a big announcement. He told all U.S. federal workers that they need to write a report about what they did at work last week. If they don’t, it will be treated like they quit their jobs. This decision is part of efforts to reduce the size of the government and cut many federal jobs.

Just hours after Musk’s announcement, the new FBI director, Kash Patel, ordered his employees to stop responding to the report requests from the Office of Personnel Management (OPM). Patel wants the FBI to handle its own reviews internally.

He said in a message, “Please pause any responses.” This means FBI workers should not reply to OPM until they receive more instructions from their own agency. The National Security Agency (NSA) also told their employees to wait before responding to Musk’s report request.

Many people are upset about Musk’s rule. Ed Martin, a key attorney in Washington, told his staff to be careful in their responses and promised to protect them if they faced any issues. Meanwhile, workers’ unions are strongly criticizing Musk’s announcement. Everett Kelley, president of a union that represents many federal workers, said it is unfair to ask employees to justify their jobs to someone like Musk, who has never served in public office.

Another union leader called the email from OPM “completely un-American” and emphasized that workers would stand up against these demands.

Despite the criticism, Trump showed support for Musk, calling him a “patriot” at a recent conference and encouraged him to be more aggressive in cutting government spending.

York County Hospital Shooting: Officer Duarte Tragically Loses His Life

On Saturday, a sad event happened at UPMC Memorial Hospital in York, Pennsylvania. A gunman named Diogenes Archangel-Ortiz, who was 49 years old, carried out a dangerous attack. Around 10:35 a.m., he entered the hospital’s intensive care unit with a gun and zip ties. He took some hospital staff members hostage before police arrived.

When law enforcement officers got there at about 10:43 a.m., Archangel-Ortiz had already zip-tied one female staff member. During the confrontation, Officer Andrew Duarte from West York Borough Police was shot. Sadly, he did not survive. Other people, including a doctor, a nurse, a cleaning worker, and two officers, were also hurt during the incident.

The police bravely responded to the situation by shooting Archangel-Ortiz while he was still holding one of the hospital employees. Fortunately, no patients were harmed. UPMC Hospital confirmed that the gunman was dead and the area was safe, although the hospital was not accepting new patients at that time.

Authorities later revealed that Archangel-Ortiz had visited the ICU earlier in the week for medical reasons related to someone else. This showed that his attack was planned.

Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro expressed sadness about the events, mentioning how both good and bad things happened that day. He honored Officer Andrew Duarte, calling him a hero who dedicated his life to helping others. The West York Borough Police Department also paid tribute to Duarte, saying that their community mourns the loss of a true hero.

Chhattisgarh CM to Investigate NGOs for Misuse of Foreign Funds

Raipur: Chhattisgarh’s Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai has announced that the government will check how NGOs in the state are using foreign money. He is worried that some of these NGOs might be using this money for illegal activities, like converting people to different religions. While speaking to reporters at Swami Vivekananda Airport in Raipur, he mentioned that many NGOs claim to use foreign funds for things like health and education. However, he believes that some of this money is actually being used to push religious conversions instead.

The Chief Minister told officials to take strong action against any NGO found doing something illegal. He directed them to carefully examine these funds to make sure they are being used for their intended purposes. Sai shared his concerns about some NGOs taking advantage of poor and uneducated people by promising them better lives in exchange for changing their religion. He emphasized that India is a secular country, and everyone has the right to believe in any religion they choose.

The government is committed to maintaining peace among different religious communities and already has strict laws against forced religious conversions. Sai stressed that while all religions should be respected, any attempts to disrupt society through conversion activities will not be allowed. He assured that the state government will work closely with the central government and law enforcement to stop such actions.

Kerala Government Steps In to Help Abandoned 23-Day-Old Baby Girl

A baby girl, just 23 days old, was found abandoned in a special care unit for newborns in Kochi. Her parents, from Jharkhand, left her there after facing some problems. The Kerala government, led by Minister Veena George, is now stepping in to help her.

The Women and Child Development Department is acting quickly. Officials will go to the hospital to support the baby. They stated that if the parents come back, they can take her home. If they choose not to, the Child Welfare Committee will make sure the baby gets the care she needs.

The hospital’s head has been told to ensure the baby gets all the medical help she requires. Her parents worked at a fish farm in Kottayam. When the mother was on a train, she had health issues and gave birth at a nearby hospital. Since the baby was very small, she was moved to a private hospital for special care. Unfortunately, the parents have since disappeared, and the hospital has not been able to reach them.

  • South Sudan Closes Schools Amid Dangerous Heatwave Challenges

South Sudan Closes Schools Amid Dangerous Heatwave Challenges

South Sudan has closed all schools for two weeks because of a dangerous heatwave that’s making students faint. This is only the second time they have done this during February and March.

Deputy Education Minister Martin Tako Moi shared that about 12 students collapse every day in the capital, Juba. Many schools in the country are made of iron sheets and don’t have air conditioning to cool them down.

Environment Minister Josephine Napwon Cosmos warned everyone to stay inside and drink water as temperatures may reach 42 degrees Celsius (107.6 degrees Fahrenheit). She suggested that government workers change their schedules to avoid heat-related illnesses.

Education workers are asking the government to change the school calendar. They think schools should close in February and open again in April when it gets cooler. Abraham Kuol Nyuon, a dean at the University of Juba, said the school schedule should fit the local weather conditions.

A group called Integrity South Sudan criticized the government, saying it shows poor planning to close schools during such hot weather. The country’s health system is weak because of ongoing political issues, and around 400,000 people died between 2013 and 2018 due to conflict.

Elections that were supposed to happen last year have been delayed for two years because of a lack of money. South Sudan is also facing economic problems, partly because a major oil pipeline from Sudan was damaged but has since been repaired.
