Manipur Governor Calls for Peace: Surrender Weapons Now

Guwahati: Manipur’s Governor, Ajay Kumar Bhalla, has called on everyone in the state to return any stolen or illegal weapons they have. He promised that if these weapons are handed over within the next seven days, no one will be punished for returning them.

For over 20 months, Manipur has faced lots of violence that has harmed many people. Recently, President’s rule was imposed in the state. The Governor said, “All communities, both in the Valley and the Hills, have suffered a lot from ongoing conflicts. To bring back peace and let people return to their daily lives, we all need to work together.”

He specifically asked young people from all communities to bring back any weapons they have to their local police stations, outposts, or security camps. He emphasized that returning these weapons would be a strong step toward restoring peace. “If you act now, you won’t have to worry about getting in trouble. But after the seven days, actions will be taken against anyone who still has these weapons,” he added.

The government has previously requested people to return weapons, but not many did. About 6,000 weapons were taken during the chaos, mostly from valley districts. A security advisor had mentioned that around 2,681 have been recovered, but only 1,200 out of those were from the looted ones. Since the violence began between the Kuki-Zo tribals and the non-tribal Meiteis on May 3, 2023, at least 258 people have died, and many others have been hurt. Over 60,000 individuals have had to leave their homes and are living in relief camps across different districts.

Police Crack Down on Social Media Violations at Maha Kumbh

The Uttar Pradesh Police is looking into an Instagram account that shared videos of women taking a holy dip at the Maha Kumbh festival. They have asked Meta, which owns Instagram, to help find out who runs the account. The police promised to take action, including possible arrests, once they have this information.

On February 17, a case was filed against the Instagram account for posting these videos, which are disrespectful to the women involved. Another case was registered on February 19 against a Telegram channel that was selling similar videos. The police are currently investigating both cases at the Kotwali Kumbh Mela police station in Prayagraj, where the festival is happening.

The police’s actions come after their social media team discovered people sharing videos of women bathing and changing clothes, which goes against their privacy and dignity. • India and US to Start Talks on Major Trade Deal Next Month!

India and US to Start Talks on Major Trade Deal Next Month!

NEW DELHI: India and the United States are set to start important talks next month to create a new trade deal. This comes after a meeting between Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump last week. The leaders of both countries want to change how they do business and aim for $500 billion in trade by 2030.

The talks will kick off once the new US Secretary of Commerce and the United States Trade Representative begin their roles. Officials say the goal is to finish a multi-sector trade agreement in about eight to nine months. They want a deal that is fair for both sides, and there’s no plan for a small or partial agreement.

Some areas they will discuss include increasing manufacturing jobs and trading more agricultural products. The US already sells over $4 billion worth of agricultural goods to India each year, and both countries could gain more if they trade even more in this area.

India has a trade deficit of $45.7 billion with the US, meaning it buys more from America than it sells. However, with India’s economy growing fast, demand for US products will increase, helping to balance this trade deficit. The US is currently the fourth-largest supplier of goods to India, following China, Russia, and the UAE, and has the potential to supply more energy.

From April 2024 to January 2025, US imports to India grew by over 6%, rising from $35.46 billion to $37.62 billion. Meanwhile, India’s exports to the US increased by 8.6%, going from $63 billion to $68.47 billion during the same period.

Officials state that the relationship between the US and India is not only about trade. Multiple government departments are working together to improve cooperation, and representatives from both countries are actively collaborating on the details outlined in their recent agreement.

  • India’s Climate Breakthrough: A Bright Future with Clean Energy

India’s Climate Breakthrough: A Bright Future with Clean Energy

India is doing an amazing job with its climate goals and has the chance to improve even more by using clean energy, says UN climate chief Simon Stiell. In an interview, he highlighted that because India has a large population and diverse geography, many people are at risk from climate change. It’s important to invest in making sure that people, communities, buildings, and businesses can withstand these changes.

India has already made significant progress, such as installing 100 gigawatts of solar energy quickly and providing electricity to every village. Stiell believes India can grow even faster by using clean energy and industries, which will lead to more jobs, better health, more affordable energy, and improved living standards for its people.

However, the country’s size and population diversity also mean that many people face environmental challenges like melting glaciers, stronger storms, and food insecurity. Stiell praised India as a “solar superpower” and encouraged it to create a strong climate plan for its entire economy. He noted that while some countries only talk about climate action, India takes real steps.

As part of its climate strategy, India aims to cut down greenhouse gas emissions per unit of GDP by 45% by 2030 compared to 2005 levels. It also plans to get half of its electricity from non-fossil fuels by the same year and create a significant carbon sink through more forests. India has already managed to reduce its emissions intensity by 36% between 2005 and 2020. As of December 2024, more than 47% of India’s power generation comes from non-fossil sources, and it has already created about 2.29 billion tonnes of additional carbon sinks since 2005.

  • Swati Maliwal Calls for Dalit MLA as Delhi’s Opposition Leader

Swati Maliwal Calls for Dalit MLA as Delhi’s Opposition Leader

Swati Maliwal, a Member of Parliament, wrote a letter to Arvind Kejriwal, who is the leader of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). In her letter, she asked him to choose a Dalit MLA (Member of the Legislative Assembly) as the Leader of the Opposition in the Delhi Assembly. Swati reminded Kejriwal that three years ago, he promised to make a Dalit Deputy Chief Minister in Punjab, but he hasn’t done it yet. She believes that choosing a Dalit MLA for this important role would honor the respected leader Babasaheb Ambedkar.

Swati thinks this decision is important and goes beyond politics; it shows commitment to the party’s values. Recently, AAP lost the elections in Delhi, and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won. BJP will form a government in Delhi for the first time in 27 years, winning 48 out of 70 seats. Many AAP leaders, including Kejriwal, lost in their constituencies, and AAP could only secure 22 seats.

The BJP is set to have a meeting to choose their new leader, and the new Chief Minister will be sworn in at Ramlila Maidan. This venue can hold about 30,000 people and is currently being prepared for the ceremony, which will have many important guests, including Prime Minister Modi.

Torres Investment Scam: New Developments Link to Bulgaria

The Mumbai police are investigating a big fraud case involving Torres investment, and new information has come to light. Some people involved are now wanted for starting similar scams in Bulgaria. So far, the police have caught six people, but nine more are still on the run—eight from Ukraine and one from Turkey.

This scam tricked over 12,700 people out of a massive Rs 130 crore (that’s 1.3 billion rupees)! The police are working hard to check out these new schemes in Bulgaria, as the suspects are supposedly using a different company name. If they confirm this information, they will inform the police in Bulgaria for further action.

The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) has managed to recover property worth Rs 35 crore, including cash! They are also asking the court to sell various items like cars and furniture that were used by the scam company. If the auction goes well, they hope to return around Rs 40 crore to the victims of the fraud.

The company behind this mess, Platinum Hern Pvt Ltd, which owns the Torres jewelry brand, is accused of tricking investors with fake promises of high returns using Ponzi schemes and multi-level marketing (MLM) tricks.
