Sengar Seeks Medical Bail Extension in Unnao Rape Case: Latest Update”

New Delhi – Kuldeep Singh Sengar, a former BJP leader who was kicked out of the party, has asked the Delhi High Court for a five-month extension of his temporary bail due to health issues related to the Unnao rape case from 2017. The court had already granted him temporary bail until December 20 but is now looking at his request again.

A panel of judges asked for a health report from the doctors at AIIMS, a big hospital, and noted that many visitors were coming to see Sengar, which was affecting his medical care. However, Sengar’s lawyer argued that only family members had visited him during his evaluation.

Sengar is serving a 10-year prison sentence for the death of the father of the Unnao rape survivor, who died in police custody after being arrested on Sengar’s orders. The survivor, who was a minor at the time, was allegedly kidnapped and raped by Sengar in 2017. The courts had also given prison sentences to Sengar’s brother and others involved in the case.

Currently, Sengar has an appeal pending to have his conviction overturned. The Supreme Court ordered the rape and related cases to be moved to Delhi from Uttar Pradesh for a fair trial.

Volkswagen’s Crucial Talks: Avoiding Shutdowns and Protecting Jobs”

In Hanover, Germany, Volkswagen is talking with labor leaders about keeping jobs safe as they deal with possible plant closures and pay cuts. These talks have been happening since Monday, and they hope to reach an agreement before Christmas to stop big strikes planned for next year by the IG Metall union. Recently, about 100,000 workers protested in two major strikes, which is the largest in the company’s history. They are unhappy with management’s plans to cut salaries, reduce work, and possibly close German plants.

Both sides want to work things out, but they still have a lot to discuss. Some progress has been made, but it might not be enough to agree yet. The union strongly disagrees with the idea of closing plants, while Volkswagen says it might need to cut costs because they see less demand for cars in Europe.

One idea being discussed is to cut back on production rather than closing factories completely. There are rumors that Volkswagen might move some production of the popular Golf model to Mexico from its main factory in Wolfsburg. The company, which is the biggest car maker in Europe, is also facing competition from cheaper Chinese brands and slow sales of electric cars.

Bloomberg reported that Volkswagen and the labor unions might agree to restructure without closing any factories in Germany. Volkswagen is open to keeping plants running and promising job security until 2030, but this may come with workers giving up bonus payments.

Ferry Capsizes Near Elephanta Island: 13 Lives Lost, 100+ Rescued”

A fun trip to Elephanta Island turned into a disaster on Wednesday when a ferry called Neelkamal flipped over. It was struck by a fast naval speedboat near Butcher Island. This boat was testing a new engine when it accidentally went out of control, according to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.

The crash happened at 3:15 PM, and chaos followed. Families and children were thrown into the sea as the ferry capsized. A viral video showed the naval boat spinning out of control before crashing into Neelkamal.

    Brave Rescuers Save Lives

Nearby was a CISF patrol boat named Shera 1. When they got the emergency call, Constables Amol, Vikas, and Arun rushed to help. They arrived just ten minutes later, but by then, the ferry was already underwater.

Sawant, one of the rescuers, said, “We found nine or ten children. The first one we saved was just three years old. Our main job was to help all the kids.” Although their boat could only hold a few people, they managed to rescue 30 passengers and took them to a nearby port. Many were unconscious, and they provided CPR before transferring them.

The rescue operation quickly grew bigger. Four naval helicopters, eleven Navy boats, a Coast Guard ship, and three Marine Police boats joined in the effort. Survivors were taken to nearby docks and hospitals. There were six people on the naval speedboat, including two Navy members and four company representatives.

By 7:30 PM, 101 passengers had been rescued, but sadly, 13 people lost their lives, including two children and a Navy member.

    Government Promises Support

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced that families of those who died would receive ₹5 lakh from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund. There would also be an investigation by state police and Navy officials to see what caused the accident. Prime Minister Narendra Modi promised ₹2 lakh to help the victims’ families.

A passenger named Ganesh recalled, “The naval boat was spinning in the ocean. I thought it might hit us, and it did in seconds.” Another eyewitness saw people falling into the water and nearby boats coming to help. “People were screaming, and kids were crying,” Sawant said.

The naval speedboat was testing its new engine, which reportedly got stuck, making it impossible for the driver to control it. Neelkamal was a well-known ferry for tourists visiting Elephanta Island, famous for its ancient caves. As officials investigate, everyone is questioning how this accident could happen near civilian boats. This rescue operation showed how important it is for agencies to work together quickly to save lives.

  • Ashwin’s Shocking Retirement: What It Means for Indian Cricket”

Ashwin’s Shocking Retirement: What It Means for Indian Cricket”

Ravichandran Ashwin, a star Indian cricketer, recently surprised everyone by announcing his retirement from international cricket during the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy series in Australia. While he hasn’t provided specific reasons for his decision, it has led to a lot of speculation.

Reports suggest that Ashwin, who has been dealing with a knee injury, was thinking about retiring for some time. He even spoke to Indian team captain Rohit Sharma when he arrived in Australia last month. Former cricketer Harbhajan Singh believes Ashwin might have decided to step down after noticing that Washington Sundar was getting more chances to play.

Sundar returned to the Indian team unexpectedly during a home Test series against New Zealand in October. He impressed everyone with an incredible performance, taking 11 wickets in one match and doing well in another. Because of this, Sundar was selected for the tour of Australia, even playing in the first Test match ahead of Ashwin and another star, Ravindra Jadeja.

Ashwin played in the second Test, taking just one wicket before sitting out the next match to make room for Jadeja, who scored a key half-century. Harbhajan was surprised by Ashwin’s retirement news. He thought Ashwin would get a chance to play in the upcoming Tests in Sydney or Melbourne where spinners are crucial.

“I’m shocked by Ashwin’s decision. It’s surprising to hear this in the middle of a series, but we must respect what he has chosen. He is a fantastic bowler who has helped India win many matches. I wish him the best in his future,” Harbhajan said.

Harbhajan also mentioned that Ashwin likely noticed the management was focusing on younger players like Sundar. He explained that since India won’t be playing any Test matches at home until next October, they will be heading to England next summer for five matches, where only two spinners will be picked. It seems like Sundar and Jadeja might be chosen over Ashwin.

“This decision was probably not easy for him,” Harbhajan concluded. “With such a great record and so many wickets, Ashwin probably knew Sundar would be preferred moving forward.”

  • Christa McAuliffe: Inspiring Generations Through Education and History”

Christa McAuliffe: Inspiring Generations Through Education and History”

CONCORD, N.H. — Before she became an astronaut, Christa McAuliffe was a lively teacher in New England. She loved showing her students how everyday people made a big difference in U.S. history. Nearly 40 years later, a new documentary titled “Christa: From Ordinary to Extraordinary,” made by New Hampshire PBS, looks at how she continues to inspire others, focusing less on what happened to her on the Challenger space shuttle.

The film features her hometown of Concord, New Hampshire, where she was chosen from over 11,000 applicants to be the first teacher in space. As Governor Chris Sununu says in the documentary, “You say ‘Christa’ in New Hampshire, everyone knows exactly who you’re talking about.”

This documentary was released just three months after a bronze statue of McAuliffe was unveiled at the Statehouse to honor her on what would have been her 76th birthday. It includes interviews from people in her community and shows joyful memories, like a Main Street parade in her honor and some of her inspiring words to Concord High School seniors in 1985. The film captures the pride locals feel for a teacher who loved learning.

Christa was 37 when she tragically died in the Challenger explosion on January 28, 1986. The documentary briefly mentions this tragedy. “We all want to be remembered for who we were, not how we died,” says Jeanne Gerulskis, a former director of the McAuliffe-Shepard Discovery Center.

    Teaching History Through Everyday Lives

Christa taught social studies at Concord High School starting in 1983. She created a special course about the history of American women, which is still taught today. People in the documentary shared how she wanted students to see how regular people, especially women, make history. She loved field trips and had exciting dreams about sharing her experiences from space, saying it felt like being one of the pioneers in American history.

Holly Merrow, a former student, believes the documentary shows Christa’s spirit of inspiration. She recalls feeling like they were going to space too while learning from her.

    Keeping Her Memory Alive

The documentary also emphasizes how important it is for kids to learn about Christa McAuliffe. In New Hampshire, students begin learning about government when they turn 9 and often visit the Statehouse. Christa’s statue sits near the entrance, serving as a great starting point for discussions. It is the first new statue there in over a century and the first of a woman.

At Concord High School, Kimberly Bleier teaches social studies in the same room where McAuliffe once taught. In the film, she talks about the responsibility of keeping Christa’s love for hands-on learning alive. Bleier now teaches a class called “Street Law,” which includes learning about the legal system. She remembers watching the shuttle launch on TV as a sixth-grader and how heartbreaking it was to see it explode. “I want to watch her, I want to hear her,” she says.

    Where to Watch

The 30-minute documentary can be viewed online at the New Hampshire PBS website, or you can stream it on the PBS App.

Israeli Airstrikes Target Houthi Positions in Yemen Amid Escalating Conflict

Early on Thursday, Israeli planes attacked different areas in Yemen including the capital, Sanaa, and the port city of Hodeidah. This information was shared by Al Masirah TV, which is run by the Houthi movement that controls much of Yemen. The Israeli strikes hit two main power stations, one north and one south of Sanaa. Yemen’s SABA news agency reported that four strikes hit Hodeidah, and two of those hit the Ras Issa oil facility, causing injuries and fatalities among workers there.

Israel’s military stated that they aimed for specific Houthi military targets in Yemen, including ports and places for energy in Sanaa. They mentioned that the locations they attacked were used by Houthi forces for military purposes. Earlier on Thursday, the Israeli military also reported that they intercepted a missile fired from Yemen.

The Houthi fighters, who are supported by Iran, have been attacking international ships near Yemen since last November, showing their support for Palestinians during the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas.

Taiwan Spots Increased Chinese Military Activity – What’s Happening?

Taiwan’s Ministry of National Defence (MND) announced that they saw 10 Chinese military planes and 5 naval ships near Taiwan in just one day. This was from 6 am Wednesday to 6 am Thursday (local time).

The MND said that 4 of these Chinese planes flew across the median line, which is the middle area of the Taiwan Strait, entering Taiwan’s air defense zone in the southwest and southeast areas. They reported this on X (formerly Twitter), ensuring that they were watching the situation and ready to respond.

Earlier on Wednesday, Taiwan also noticed 15 Chinese military planes, 9 naval ships, and 4 official vessels close to their territory. Among those, 2 of the planes crossed the median line. Again, the MND reassured everyone that they were monitoring everything closely.

These activities are part of a recent trend where China has been stepping up military movements around Taiwan, which worries many people about the stability in the region as China continues to insist on its claims over Taiwan.

On Tuesday, China’s Foreign Ministry dismissed the existence of Taiwan’s MND. This comment came soon after Taiwan received its first shipment of US-made M1A2T Abrams tanks. The spokesperson for China’s Foreign Ministry, Lin Jian, said there is no such thing as a ‘Ministry of National Defence’ in Taiwan, trying to downplay Taiwan’s military presence.

  • EU Leaders Reaffirm Support for Ukraine Amid Trump’s Presidency Concerns”

EU Leaders Reaffirm Support for Ukraine Amid Trump’s Presidency Concerns”

European Union (EU) leaders are meeting in Brussels on Thursday to show support for Ukraine, especially with Donald Trump as the U.S. President again. They will talk with Ukraine’s President, Volodymyr Zelenskiy, to reaffirm their commitment to stand by Ukraine during its ongoing conflict with Russia.

Trump has previously suggested that the war should end quickly, recently saying that Zelenskiy should be ready to talk peace with Russian President Vladimir Putin. However, he did not clarify if this would involve Ukraine giving up any land to Russia, which currently controls about a fifth of Ukraine and is advancing eastward.

The EU leaders agreed that Russia should not win this conflict and that any talks about Ukraine’s future should include Kyiv’s opinions. One EU diplomat mentioned this shows a clear message to the U.S.

Additionally, the leaders will discuss their relationship with the U.S. during lunch, especially since there are worries about a potential trade war. Trump has warned the EU that it will face high tariffs for not buying enough American products. The EU is determined to stay united and not get divided by U.S. negotiations with individual countries.

The EU will also highlight that it is one of the biggest trading partners for the U.S. and share common values. To address America’s concerns about trade, the EU might offer to buy more U.S. liquefied natural gas or military equipment.

During their lunch debate, they will also bring up issues with China and whether the EU will have to take sides in the U.S.-China trade dispute. Britain is also a topic, as it seeks to improve relations with the EU, which sees Britain as an important security partner.
