Vape Battery Explosion: Dorset Woman’s Painful Journey to Recovery

A 35-year-old woman named Kerri Absolom from Dorset had a very scary and painful experience when a vape battery exploded in her pocket. It happened one morning right before she was about to go to work. Kerri noticed smoke coming from her clothes and, when she checked, she saw sparks flying from the battery. Shocked, she realized she had a severe burn on her leg.

Kerri’s husband, Christopher, tried to help her pull her pants off as the situation got worse. Suddenly, the battery fell onto their dog’s bed and melted through it into the carpet below. They heard hissing sounds as the hot battery caused more problems. Christopher quickly called for an ambulance.

Firefighters arrived and took Kerri outside to cool her burning leg with water. They also removed the still-hot battery from the house to prevent a bigger fire.

Doctors later found out that the battery exploded because it touched Kerri’s keys, which acted like a conductor. She had to go to the hospital with third-degree burns and received strong pain medicine to help her through the pain. Kerri had to stay in the hospital for a week.

While healing, she had a skin graft to help her recover and reduce scarring. But the recovery was very painful, making it hard for Kerri to even shower. She also had allergic reactions to her medication and struggled to sleep because of her ongoing pain and fear.

This whole experience made it difficult for her mentally, leading to post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). She had to take time off work to heal and recover from both her physical and emotional injuries.

Hardik Pandya Leads India to Champions Trophy Victory

Dubai – Hardik Pandya stepped up to bowl for India in the Champions Trophy when Jasprit Bumrah was not available. Despite his new role, he kept his fighting spirit and adjusted well. In the tournament, India relied mainly on spinners, so Pandya only bowled 24.3 overs in five matches, taking four wickets. He commented, “Bowling will take care of itself. This year was all about learning and facing challenges. I never run away from tough situations. If challenges come, I face them head-on. As long as I stay in the game, I have a chance.”

After India’s victory, Pandya expressed that he has been quietly working hard to improve his game. “I always believe in myself and know that hard work pays off. The way you prepare shows in your performance,” he stated. Winning this tournament also helped him forget the disappointment of losing to Pakistan in the 2017 edition, where he was also a player. He said, “Today, I feel like a long-hidden dream has come true. Eight years is a long time, and many things have changed, but winning for India means everything to me. It’s not just about me; it’s about the team’s success that matters most.”

  • Stock Market Taxes Explained: Know Your Tax Liabilities

Stock Market Taxes Explained: Know Your Tax Liabilities

If you make money only from the stock market, how much tax you pay depends on whether you’re an investor or a trader.

    – For Traders: If you do intraday trading, futures, or options trading without delivery, your earnings count as business income. This means you get taxed based on the income tax slabs.

Here are the tax slabs for the financial year 2024-25:
    – 0 to Rs 3 lakh: No tax.
    – Rs 3 lakh to Rs 7 lakh: 5% tax.
    – Rs 7 lakh to Rs 10 lakh: 10% tax.
    – Rs 10 lakh to Rs 12 lakh: 15% tax.
    – Rs 12 lakh to Rs 15 lakh: 20% tax.
    – Above Rs 15 lakh: 30% tax.

Important Note: In 2025-26, there will be new tax slabs, where you won’t pay tax if your income is up to Rs 4 lakh.

For Investors: If you buy and hold stocks, your income is treated as capital gains. If you sell stocks after holding them for more than a year, you pay 12.5% tax on profits above Rs 1.25 lakh a year. If you sell stocks within a year, you pay a 20% tax on the earnings.

Reinvesting Profits: If you make a profit and put it back into buying stocks, you still have to pay capital gains tax that year. But if you invest in tax-saving options, like ELSS, you might save on taxes.

Expenses for Traders: Traders can deduct some expenses like internet bills and research costs before calculating their taxable income, which helps lower their tax.

Choosing the Right Tax System: You can choose between the old tax regime and the new one. If you pick the old regime, you can use deductions for investments like PPF or ELSS to reduce how much tax you pay. However, those deductions aren’t available in the new tax system, which just offers lower tax rates.

This means you should really think about which tax system works best for you

  • Debate Ignites: Do Migrant Kids Choose to Cross the Border

Debate Ignites: Do Migrant Kids Choose to Cross the Border

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem was interviewed by Margaret Brennan on “Face the Nation.” When they discussed how migrant families were treated at the border, Noem said that children of migrants have a “choice” about crossing the border illegally.

She claimed that everyone can choose to be in the country legally or illegally and can even leave the country voluntarily (“self-deport”). Brennan tried to correct her, saying that kids don’t really have a choice in this matter. Still, Noem insisted that children and their parents can decide to stay together or if the parents want to leave the kids behind, that’s a family choice.

When asked about separating families at the border, Noem said she wasn’t sure if that policy would come back. She blamed President Joe Biden, saying he ignored federal immigration laws, leading to consequences for people who break the law.

Rep. Jasmine Crockett from Texas disagreed with Noem. She said that entering the country without permission is not a crime; it’s a “civil matter.” Crockett pointed out that local police don’t ignore real crimes because of someone’s immigration status. Instead, they focus on serious crimes and shouldn’t waste time rounding up individuals just because they entered the country illegally.

Crockett also criticized Republicans for their stance on immigration and called former President Trump the “biggest criminal” to have been in office. She mentioned that people shouldn’t be concerned about immigrants when there are more serious criminals to catch.

Inzamam Defends Pakistan Cricket Against Gavaskar’s Comments

Former cricket star Inzamam-ul-Haq from Pakistan has strongly disagreed with Indian cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar. Gavaskar recently said that India could beat Pakistan with their second-best team, calling attention to the big gap between how the two teams are performing lately.

Pakistan used to have a strong record against India, but they have now lost their last six matches. Inzamam has spoken out against players like Mohammad Rizwan and how the Pakistan team has played but believes Gavaskar went too far with his comments.

Inzamam reminded Gavaskar of the history between India and Pakistan, saying that Gavaskar once did not play in a match against Pakistan in Sharjah. He expressed respect for Gavaskar but insisted that it is not right for him to speak about other countries that way. Inzamam said, “Gavaskar should check the statistics – they show where Pakistan stands. I was hurt by his statement. He is a great player, but his comments are hurting his own legacy. He should think before he speaks.”

Gavaskar had noted that “a B team from India can definitely challenge Pakistan in their current form,” which sparked a debate. Former Pakistan coach Jason Gillespie also called Gavaskar’s remarks “nonsense.”

The Champions Trophy was a significant cricket event for Pakistan, marking the return of an ICC tournament after 29 years. Unfortunately, Pakistan could not advance to the semi-finals, losing matches to both New Zealand and India.

  • Why Do Some Hiring Managers Reject Job Hoppers? A Job Seekers’ Story

Why Do Some Hiring Managers Reject Job Hoppers? A Job Seekers’ Story

A job seeker recently shared a frustrating experience about being turned down for a job because the interviewer didn’t like his history of changing jobs. The hiring manager had been with the same company for 20 years and expected others to stay at a job for a long time too.

The candidate, a developer, explained why he left his last few jobs every three years. He said that at his first job, the work became boring, and he didn’t see a way to grow in his career, so he decided to leave. At his second job, he lasted almost three years until mass layoffs happened after a big company bought them out. Now, at his current job, he wanted to switch to a different project that matched his career goals, but he was told he needed to stay in the same project for 2.5 years before he could move, which led him to look for other opportunities instead.

Despite explaining his reasons, the interviewer was not convinced. The hiring manager got upset because he thought everyone should stick to a job as long as he did.

The interviewer also didn’t like the candidate’s answer when asked where he saw himself in a few years. The candidate said he wanted to become an architect to really understand projects from start to finish, but the hiring manager thought this was too focused on tech and not enough on customers. The candidate argued that doing great work would make customers happy, but the interviewer didn’t agree.

Many people who read about this shared their thoughts. One person commented that the hiring manager might not understand that many people switch jobs these days because of the current job market and inflation. Another pointed out that changing jobs every three years is actually pretty common now. A third commented that hiring managers often use excuses to reject candidates.

Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargaj Takes Charge as Jathedar of Takht Kesgarh Sahib

Chandigarh: Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargaj took charge as the jathedar (leader) of Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib at Anandpur Sahib in Punjab’s Rupnagar district on Monday. This important ceremony was attended by the ‘Panj Piaras’, a group of five beloved Sikhs. The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) had previously announced Kuldeep Singh Gargaj’s appointment on March 7, and he will also act as the jathedar of the Akal Takht in Amritsar, the top authority for Sikhs.

The SGPC decided to remove Giani Raghbir Singh from Akal Takht and Giani Sultan Singh from Kesgarh Sahib. This decision was met with anger from many Sikh leaders, including senior Shiromani Akali Dal leader Bikram Singh Majithia.

Both Akal Takht and Takht Kesgarh Sahib are two of the five key religious seats in Sikhism. Before taking on his new role, Kuldeep Singh Gargaj prayed at Takht Kesgarh Sahib. During the ceremony, the head Granthi (priest) Giani Joginder Singh led an ‘ardas’ (prayer), and the ‘Panj Piaras’ honored Gargaj by giving him a special turban. Other SGPC members also presented ceremonial turbans to him.

In his speech, Kuldeep Singh Gargaj urged the Sikh community to come together under one ‘Nishan Sahib’ (Sikh flag) during these challenging times. He thanked the 10 Sikh Gurus and Guru Granth Sahib for this honor. He shared that he is proud to serve the Takht, despite growing up in a humble Sikh family. After starting his journey as a ‘Pathi’ (reader of prayers), he pledged to continue spreading the teachings of Sikhism.
