  • Pregnant Woman Rushed to Hospital After Car Update Delays Journey

Pregnant Woman Rushed to Hospital After Car Update Delays Journey

In a surprising and scary situation, a woman in China who was about to give birth had trouble starting her car because of a required software update. The update lasted 51 minutes, and during that time, the woman felt her labor pains getting stronger. With no way to drive, she had to walk to a taxi to get to the hospital, where doctors performed an emergency C-section.

This incident happened on December 5 when a man from Shandong shared a video on Douyin. He said his wife was in labor when their Li Auto SUV asked for an update that he accidentally agreed to. Their car, which costs over 300,000 yuan (around 3.5 lakhs in Indian Rupees), wouldn’t start while the update was happening.

The man called Li Auto’s customer service to try to stop the update, but they said it couldn’t be canceled once it started. Their driveway was blocked by other cars, so an ambulance couldn’t come. That forced them to leave their home on foot and finally catch a taxi to the hospital.

In the video, the wife shared her pain during the walk, saying, “I have a car, but every step is excruciating.” The stressful situation also made the baby’s heartbeat faster. Thankfully, after the surgery, both mother and daughter were fine. The man’s video drew a lot of attention online, getting over 35 million views on Weibo. Some people blamed the husband for agreeing to the update while others criticized the car company for not letting users cancel updates during emergencies.

The man said he didn’t mean to blame Li Auto but wanted to share their tough experience. He also mentioned that the negative comments had added stress for his wife, making him report the case to the police.

Li Auto representatives stated they’re looking into the matter. They explained that customers get a warning about updates and can schedule or delay them, but once the update begins, it can’t be stopped for safety reasons. Although the company hasn’t offered any help yet, a lawyer suggested that the couple might be able to get money back for costs like taxi fares because there could be a design issue with the update system.

This isn’t the first time that updates on electric cars have caused problems. Another person using a different EV brand complained they couldn’t open their car’s trunk or turn on their hazard lights because of a similar update.

  • China Prepares for Trade Talks Amid Trump’s New Tariff Threats

China Prepares for Trade Talks Amid Trump’s New Tariff Threats

As Donald Trump threatens to raise tariffs on Chinese goods, China is trying to act quickly and make its own rules before he takes office again. Experts believe that China wants to get the U.S. back to the negotiating table to talk about trade, science, and technology without triggering a full trade war.

China’s economy is not doing well, and it knows new tariffs could make things worse. This week, China announced it will investigate American company Nvidia for suspected unfair business practices. This comes after China banned some exports of rare minerals to the U.S.

Fred Neumann, an economist at HSBC, thinks China’s actions are just the start of negotiations with the U.S., rather than a fight where both sides walk away unhappy. George Magnus from Oxford University agrees that China can handle most tariffs unless they are extremely high, like 60%.

China is now leading in areas like electric vehicles and green energy, which means it doesn’t rely as much on U.S. goods like Boeing jets as it used to. However, China still needs to buy important technology from the U.S., like advanced microchips. U.S. consumers also play a key role in their economy, especially as trade globally is slowing down and buyer interest at home is weak.

Beijing wants to meet with Trump before he imposes more limits on high-tech exports and to renew an important agreement that supports science cooperation, which recently expired.

In the past, it took China a couple of years to agree to buy more American products as part of a previous trade deal. This time, China has new offers, like buying more oil and natural gas from the U.S. since America is producing more than it needs.

Given the new chip restrictions, the U.S. can still sell agricultural products and energy supplies to China. China’s commerce ministry says it is open to talking with Trump’s trade team. However, if the U.S. feels angry about China’s past commitments, it may prefer to impose tariffs instead of negotiating.

Michael Hart from the American Chamber of Commerce in China mentioned that U.S. businesses are worried about their ability to sell in China. In a recent survey, American businesses reported the lowest confidence since 1999 about their market access in China.

There are other political issues too. Trump has promised to add an extra 10% tariff on Chinese goods to encourage China to stop the flow of fentanyl into the U.S. Expert Neumann notes that using political reasons for tariffs can make trade tensions harder to resolve, and Magnus believes this might be China’s way of retaliating against U.S. actions.

Jessica’s Inspiring Fundraiser: Nude Calendar to Fight Rare Disease

Jessica Riggs, a 32-year-old woman from Saltash, Cornwall, UK, has created an inspiring and bold fundraising calendar, inspired by the movie Calendar Girls. With the support of 16 friends, she posed nude to raise an amazing £25,000 (about $32,000 or ₹27.15 lakh) for life-saving surgery needed to treat a rare disease that could leave her paralyzed.

A Rare Condition and Urgent Need for Help

Jessica is dealing with a rare problem called Neuro-Cranio-Vertebral Syndrome-Filum. This means that certain tissues around her spinal cord are too tight and could cause serious issues if not treated. To get the surgery she needs, which isn’t available on the NHS, she will travel to a special clinic in Barcelona on January 16, 2025. “My disease is hidden. If you met me, you’d think there was nothing wrong. It’s so important to advocate for yourself—you know your body better than anyone,” Jessica explained.

    From Symptoms to Challenges

Jessica first noticed something was wrong when she was just 22. She turned to the NHS for help, but doctors couldn’t find the reason for her problems. As time went on, her condition got worse, and she had to leave her job as a marine biologist and polar expedition guide.

The clinic in Barcelona offers a unique surgery that, while not a cure, will help her live a better life and stop more symptoms from developing.

    Empowering Women with the Calendar

The idea for the calendar started when a friend noticed Jessica’s love for nature and skinny-dipping. “My friend said, ‘Jess, we love being naked.’ This calendar is about empowering women and making them feel liberated,” Jessica shared.

As her calendar campaign gains momentum, Jessica is grateful for the amazing support she has received. Her story not only shines a light on her personal fight but also shows the strength and creativity of people facing rare health challenges.

  • Trump Critiques Harris’s Campaign, Celebrates Historic Election Win

Trump Critiques Harris’s Campaign, Celebrates Historic Election Win

Donald Trump shared his thoughts on Kamala Harris’ unsuccessful campaign for the White House in an interview where he was named Time’s ‘Person of the Year.’ Trump said that Harris made a big mistake by even trying to run for president. He believes her campaign failed right from the start because she didn’t know her strengths. Trump explained that Harris didn’t connect with many people during her campaign. Unlike him, she didn’t reach out to popular influencers like Joe Rogan. He said, “When she wouldn’t talk to anybody, it shone a light on her,” meaning it made people question her abilities.

Trump, who was named ‘Person of the Year’ for the second time, had a lot to say about how he connected with people. He pointed out that he has done interviews with anyone willing to talk to him, which helped him stay in the spotlight. He mentioned that his interview with Joe Rogan lasted almost three and a half hours, showing he was willing to have long, open discussions.

In the Time article, they praised Trump for making a strong comeback and changing how the American presidency works. They highlighted his 2024 win, calling it surprising because it was his first time winning the popular vote. He also turned all the swing states red. Notably, this election made Trump the oldest president in U.S. history, and he had been found guilty of fraud earlier in the year, making him the first convicted felon to become president.

  • Supreme Court Halts Mosque Surveys: Major Win for Religious Harmony

Supreme Court Halts Mosque Surveys: Major Win for Religious Harmony

In a big move, India’s Supreme Court has told all lower courts to stop any new cases or surveys that check if old temples are beneath mosques. This ruling comes after many Hindu groups started legal battles to reclaim faith places. It aims to ease rising tensions and confusion around these sensitive issues.

The Supreme Court, led by Chief Justice Sanjiv Khanna, made it clear that no new lawsuits can be opened or any actions taken until they finish looking into the important Places of Worship Act, 1991. This law was created to keep the religious identities of all places of worship the same as they were on August 15, 1947. It prohibits making changes to religious sites, except for the famous Ayodhya site, which is involved in another ongoing case.

The court reminded everyone that in 2019, it decided that the Places of Worship Act is essential for maintaining equality and harmony between different faiths. They stressed that no other courts should handle these cases until the Supreme Court makes a final ruling.

This order follows a rise in legal petitions, particularly from Hindu groups, looking to investigate significant mosques like Gyanvapi in Varanasi and Shahi Idgah in Mathura. Some Hindu leaders argue that the Act restricts their rights to reclaim temples that were destroyed long ago.

On the flip side, Muslim groups warn that challenging this law might disturb the peace and harmony between religions. They believe reopening these issues can make minority groups feel unsafe.

In the meantime, the court has asked the Indian government to clarify its position about the Act, stressing that the discussions around these religious sites are very serious and need careful handling.

Gujarat Giants Revamp Coaching Staff Before 2025 Women’s Premier League

Gujarat Giants is making big changes to their coaching team for the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2025. They have announced that Pravin Tambe will be the new bowling coach and Daniel Marsh will be the new batting coach. Michael Klinger, who was already the head coach, will continue in his role.

The team is owned by Adani Sportsline and is planning for the upcoming player auction to build a strong team.

Daniel Marsh, the new batting coach, is excited about his job. He has played cricket in Australia and has a lot of experience, scoring over 11,000 runs in his career. He wants the team to have a fearless batting style.

Pravin Tambe, the new bowling coach, made headlines for his impressive debut in a major cricket league at age 41. He has played for teams like the Rajasthan Royals and is looking forward to helping the players improve their bowling skills.

Michael Klinger has a wealth of coaching experience and has helped many teams. He is proud to build on the groundwork laid last season and hopes that the experience of players who represented India last year will help the team do better.

The WPL player auction will take place on December 15 in Bengaluru. This year, teams can choose from 120 players, including both Indian and international stars. Some standout players, like Deandra Dottin and Heather Knight, are set to go for high prices in the auction.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru, guided by Smriti Mandhana, are the defending champions of WPL 2024, having beaten the Delhi Capitals in the final last year.
