  • Indian Market Plummets as Investors Brace for U.S. Rate Decision

Indian Market Plummets as Investors Brace for U.S. Rate Decision

The Indian stock market fell sharply on Tuesday as investors were worried about the U.S. Federal Reserve’s decision on interest rates. Major companies like HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, Reliance Industries, and Bharti Airtel saw their stocks drop, causing the main index, BSE Sensex, to lose 1,064.12 points, closing at 80,684.45. The Nifty 50 index also declined by 332.25 points to finish at 24,336.00.

Experts believe that investors are cautious due to upcoming announcements from the Federal Reserve, Bank of Japan (BoJ), and Bank of England (BoE). Even though a small rate cut from the U.S. Fed is expected, many are watching for hints that might point to future changes. The Indian Rupee also fell to its lowest ever, adding more pressure as foreign investors pull out money due to rising U.S. bond yields and a stronger dollar.

In U.S. markets, stocks dipped as people awaited the Fed’s decision and digested better-than-expected retail sales data showing a rise of 0.7% in November.

From a technical standpoint, the Nifty index showed signs of bearish trends, indicating further potential declines towards the support level of 24,200. Analysts suggest that if the Nifty stays above this level, a recovery might occur.

In trading volume, the most active stocks included Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders, Suzlon Energy, Zomato, Paytm, and Reliance Industries. Some companies, like Jyoti CNC Automation and Quess Corp, experienced strong buying interest, while others like Shriram Finance and Blue Star faced heavy selling pressure.

Despite a challenging market day, over 278 stocks reached their 52-week highs, while 28 stocks hit their lows. Most stocks in the market declined, with 2,502 falling compared to 1,521 that advanced.

  • India to Launch a New Quantum Computing Facility in 3 Years!

India to Launch a New Quantum Computing Facility in 3 Years!

In a big step to boost India’s work in quantum computing, a new facility is set to open in Bangalore within the next three years. This facility, called the Quantum Reference Facility, will help researchers explore quantum and high-speed computing. Quantum computing uses the strange rules of quantum mechanics to solve very tough problems that regular computers can’t handle.

A.S. Murty, a top scientist at C-DAC (Centre for Development of Advanced Computing), announced this exciting news during the International Symposium on Quantum Computing in Kolkata. C-DAC is the main organization in India focused on research and development in technology and electronics.

The new Quantum Reference Facility will have three main parts: bringing in special equipment, putting it together, and creating software and applications. Jitesh Choudhary, C-DAC’s North East head, said it will take about three years to set everything up and make it work fully. This facility will help track and measure how quantum computing is growing in India.

The Indian government has allocated around ₹70-80 crore for this project. Many C-DAC centers across the country will work together on different areas like operating systems, security, and algorithms. India’s National Quantum Mission also aims to make the country a leader in global quantum technology. C-DAC is also looking to connect high-performance computers with quantum systems. Murty mentioned that they have already built powerful computers and now want to link them with quantum computing. He added that C-DAC is providing AI-based solutions to help the Indian Railways catch criminals on trains.

  • Supreme Court Grants Bail to Rajasthan Jal Jeevan Mission Accused

Supreme Court Grants Bail to Rajasthan Jal Jeevan Mission Accused

On Tuesday, the Supreme Court granted bail to Sanjay Badaya, who is accused of being involved in a money laundering case related to the Rajasthan Jal Jeevan Mission. He allegedly accepted bribes to help contractors win tenders from state departments, like the Public Health and Engineering department.

A judge, Justice Bhushan R. Gavai, decided to give Badaya bail because he had been in jail for five months and no charges have been filed against him yet. The judge said that the trial would not start soon. “All important evidence has already been taken by the Enforcement Directorate,” the judge noted. “There are 50 witnesses to hear from, and with over 8,000 pages of evidence, it’s unlikely the trial will be quick.”

Badaya is accused of taking a bribe of ₹3.30 crore, which allegedly went into his father’s bank account. The case first started when the anti-corruption bureau in Rajasthan filed a complaint in August 2023. Later that month, the Enforcement Directorate began investigating.

Advocate Zoheb Hossain, who represented the Enforcement Directorate, claimed that Badaya used the bribe money to buy property. Senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi, who defended Badaya, mentioned that the Supreme Court had previously granted bail to another accused, Peeyush Jain, who was involved in a bigger bribe case worth ₹8.80 crore.

When the judge asked about the difference between Badaya and Jain, the Enforcement Directorate responded that Badaya’s case involved additional money that was deposited into his father’s account from a contractor-related company. The Delhi High Court had rejected Badaya’s earlier bail request on November 11, based on the serious accusations against him.

Badaya claimed that the ₹1.05 crore in his father’s account was returned before the first legal complaint was filed. He was arrested on July 16, and he received temporary bail once to attend his mother’s funeral. Badaya also stated that the property in question was bought by his father, not him, and that the property deal was made in October 2022, which was before the alleged bribes were sent in late 2022 and early 2023.
