India Raises Alarm Over China’s Hydropower Dam Impact on Brahmaputra

India has recently expressed concerns to China about a dam that is being built on the Yarlung Zangbo River in Tibet. This river flows into India, where it is known as the Brahmaputra. Indian officials worry that the new dam might affect the water supply for people in India and Bangladesh.

China claims that the hydropower projects in Tibet will not significantly harm the environment or change water flows. However, both India and Bangladesh remain cautious. The Yarlung Zangbo River goes through Arunachal Pradesh and Assam in India before it continues into Bangladesh. People in these countries are watching the situation closely because the river is essential for their lives and farming.

Sariska Tiger Caught After Attacks: What’s Next for ST-2402?

A tiger named ST-2402 from Sariska Tiger Reserve in Rajasthan got into a lot of trouble recently. On Friday, wildlife officials helped calm the tiger down and put a radio collar on it to keep track of where it goes. The tiger had been found inside the kitchen of a farmhouse in Raini, which is in Alwar district, some distance from where it usually lives.

Special teams from Ranthambore and Sariska were called in after the tiger was first spotted in Dausa district on Tuesday. However, they couldn’t catch it right away because the tall mustard plants were in the way. The tiger was resting in a field, making it hard to approach.

Things got worse when, on Wednesday, the tiger attacked three people on a farm near Bandikui in Dausa. When the capture team tried to get the tiger at Mahukhurd on Thursday, the tiger attacked their vehicle, breaking its windows.

Pavan Kumar Upadhyay, the chief wildlife warden, said the tiger has now been taken back to Sariska Tiger Reserve. There, it will be kept in a special enclosure, and officials will watch it closely. A group of experts will soon meet to decide what to do next based on rules from the National Tiger Conservation Authority.

On Friday morning, officials were informed that the tiger was at the farmhouse around 6 a.m. The special team got there quickly and, after about three hours of work, successfully tranquillised the tiger.

  • Kotak Equities Says Sell Bajaj Housing Finance Shares: Target Rs 100

Kotak Equities Says Sell Bajaj Housing Finance Shares: Target Rs 100

A brokerage called Kotak Institutional Equities has given Bajaj Housing Finance shares a ‘sell’ rating because they believe the stock is too expensive. They set a target price of Rs 100, which suggests that the stock could fall by 21%.

According to Kotak, Bajaj Housing Finance is trading at a high price—4.7 times its book value and 39 times its expected earnings for 2026. The brokerage predicts that the company will grow its earnings by 25% each year from 2024 to 2027, mainly due to a 24% growth in its assets. They also expect the company’s profit margins to stay steady and plan to manage costs carefully.

Bajaj Housing Finance is the second-largest home loan company in India, with Rs 91,400 crore in assets this year. They focus on lending to salaried workers who have good jobs. The company has been growing rapidly, with an expected growth rate of 24% for the next few years. Their loan types include home loans (58%), loans against property (10%), and loans for developers (11%).

Bajaj Housing Finance has kept its asset quality strong, with bad loans at just 0.3% this year, which is much better than many of its competitors. They have good strategies to keep credit risks low, focusing on safe borrowers and using smart technology for lending.

Despite these strengths, Kotak warns that there are risks involved, such as changes in interest rates and tough competition in the market. As of 1:30 PM today, the Bajaj Housing Finance stock was unchanged at Rs 126.50.

  • Exciting Market Trends: What’s Next for Nifty 50 in 2025!

Exciting Market Trends: What’s Next for Nifty 50 in 2025!

Dharmesh Shah from ICICI Direct shares his thoughts on the stock market’s recent performance. He believes that while there will be ups and downs, now is a good time to buy stocks when their prices dip. The dollar index has changed, and despite recent highs, he expects it to stabilize around 85.75.

This year has started brightly, with the Nifty 50 index rising by about 500 points. A key level of 23,900 has been broken, and he predicts the Nifty could rise to 24,500 soon. But January is known for its unpredictable nature, especially with earnings reports coming up and the US presidential transition affecting global policies.

In the automotive sector, recent positive sales numbers have surprised everyone. Stocks like Tata Motors and Maruti are bouncing back due to being previously undervalued. Among the auto stocks, Mahindra & Mahindra looks strong, with a target price of 3,350. Two-wheeler stocks like Eicher Motors are also promising, expecting to reach around 5,650. Additionally, tire companies like Ceat Tyres and JK Tyres should benefit from lower crude oil prices.

On the international front, the dollar index has been fluctuating. After the US election, it climbed to 109, but there’s a chance it might struggle to get past 110-111. If this happens, it could be good for Indian metal stocks, which have already been factoring in some bad news. Stocks like Tata Steel and JSW Steel are considered good options in the metal sector.

Shah also emphasizes the potential in the defense sector, with Hindustan Aeronautics (HAL) being a top pick due to its strong fundamentals and technical support. He anticipates a target price of 4,685 for HAL, with a stop-loss at 3,920.

Looking ahead, the infrastructure sector seems bright, especially with expectations of increased government spending. JK Cement is identified as a promising stock, with an anticipated target of 5,320.

  • CISF Cuts Suicide Rate by 40%: A Groundbreaking Shift in Mental Health

CISF Cuts Suicide Rate by 40%: A Groundbreaking Shift in Mental Health

The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) has made a fantastic achievement by lowering its suicide rate by 40%. In 2023, there were 25 deaths, but in 2024, that number has dropped to 15. This change is significant because it means the suicide rate is now 9.8 out of every 100,000 personnel. This is the first time it has gone below the national average of 12.4, based on the latest data from the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB).

CISF’s success in reducing suicides comes from a lot of hard work to support the mental health of its officers, called jawans. They have introduced many new ideas to help people feel better and more supported.

    Better Work-Life Balance

One big step CISF took was to improve the work-life balance for its personnel. A study showed that many complaints came from workers feeling unhappy about where they were posted, which affected their personal lives. To help with this, CISF started a new policy that lets jawans choose where they want to work. This change focuses on the non-gazetted staff—making up 98% of the CISF workforce—and pays special attention to working women, married couples, and those close to retirement.

    Daily Sessions for Support

Another important part of CISF’s plan is daily “briefing-debriefing” meetings. Company commanders meet with their teams every day to check in and spot any signs of stress or unhappiness. Commanding officers also visit the duty posts to message directly and support those who might be struggling.

CISF has also launched Project Mann, a mental health helpline that offers counseling 24/7. By September 2024, more than 4,200 jawans used this service, proving how valuable these resources are.

In total, there were 730 reported suicides across various Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) since 2020. CISF had 105 of these cases. The highest suicide rate for the force was 18.1 per one lakh personnel in 2022. Thanks to the new measures, this rate is now down to 9.8 in 2024.

The significant drop in suicide rates shows that CISF is making real progress in supporting mental health, helping its personnel, and promoting a better work-life balance. This success can inspire other forces facing similar challenges.

This trend of changing how we consume goods is likely to stick around. Understanding it helps us see which companies are growing and which are struggling in both rural and urban areas.
