Online ticketing platform BookMyShow has stopped selling tickets for comedian Kunal Kamra’s shows and removed him from their site. This happened after Kamra made a joke about Eknath Shinde, a politician, which upset some people. Kamra responded with an open letter to BookMyShow, asking them to either keep him listed as an artist or give him the contact info of the people who bought tickets to his shows.
Kamra understands that BookMyShow needs to work well with the government because Mumbai is a big city for entertainment. He noted that big music events would not happen without government support. However, he believes stopping him from selling tickets hurts artists like him, limiting their access to their audience.
Kamra mentioned that BookMyShow takes a 10% cut of ticket sales as part of their business model. He pointed out that all comedians have to spend money on advertising, which adds extra costs to their work. He said that it’s important for artists to have access to their audience’s information so they can keep performing and earn a living.
In his letter, Kamra also highlighted that if he is not listed, he still deserves to have access to the audience he built from his solo shows. He asked BookMyShow to either stop delisting him or share the audience information collected from his performances.
Kamra does not support boycotting private businesses and understands that BookMyShow is making decisions based on its own interests. Recently, he faced trouble after making jokes about Eknath Shinde and is currently under legal issues with the police because of his comments.

Ongwen to Pay €52M to Victims: ICC’s Firm Ruling Explained!
The International Criminal Court (ICC) has confirmed a payment of 52 million euros for victims of Dominic Ongwen, a Ugandan warlord. Ongwen was part of a brutal group called the Lord’s Resistance Army, led by the infamous Joseph Kony, who is still on the run. Ongwen, also known as “White Ant,” is serving a 25-year prison sentence for terrible crimes like murder, rape, and sexual slavery.
Last year, ICC judges decided to award 52 million euros in damages, including 750 euros for almost 50,000 victims of his actions. Although Ongwen appealed against this decision, an ICC appeals court rejected his claim, as stated by Judge Solomy Balungi Bossa from Uganda. Ongwen participated in the court hearing via video link, wearing a dark suit and red tie.
Ongwen was kidnapped and forced to be a child soldier at just nine years old. His case raises questions about the responsibility of children who are taken from their homes. The Lord’s Resistance Army has been active for around 30 years, aiming to create a country based on the Ten Commandments while causing death and destruction. They have been responsible for over 100,000 deaths and the abduction of 60,000 children across Uganda and beyond.
The ICC found that Ongwen personally led his troops in attacking refugee camps and killing civilians between 2002 and 2005. Although the court recognized that he was once a helpless child, they said this does not excuse his actions as an adult. A special fund will handle the payments to the victims since Ongwen is currently in a Norwegian prison and can’t pay them himself.
In 2015, Ongwen gave himself up to U.S. forces after they were searching for Kony. He was then sent to the ICC to face trial. An upcoming hearing is scheduled for September 9 to announce charges against Kony, who is being tried in absentia. -

Harry Brook Appointed New Captain of England’s ODI and T20 Teams
Big news in cricket! The England and Wales Cricket Board announced on Monday that Harry Brook is the new captain for England’s One Day International (ODI) and Twenty20 (T20) teams. He takes over from Jos Buttler, who stepped down after a tough Champions Trophy in Pakistan last month.

Sexual harassment is a serious issue in Bengaluru. Just this January, a 24-year-old woman was harassed by two men who jumped into her cab as she was getting in. The men first fought with the cab driver, and when the woman tried to escape, one of them grabbed her neck while the other tried to rip her clothes off. She screamed for help, and luckily, the men ran away.
Authorities have promised to increase police patrols to keep women safer in the city and take necessary legal actions against such crimes.
