  • 2025 Women’s Premier League: New Era for Indian Women’s Cricket Begins!

2025 Women’s Premier League: New Era for Indian Women’s Cricket Begins!

The 2025 Women’s Premier League (WPL) starts on Friday in Vadodara, and it’s going to be amazing! This year, the league has five teams and will last for four weeks. The defending champions, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), will play against the hosts, Gujarat Giants, in the opening match.

In the first season of WPL in 2023, matches were only held in Mumbai. Last year, it was split between Bengaluru and Delhi. But this time, matches will happen in a home-and-away format, so everyone can enjoy the games!

Many players like Asha Sobhana, Uma Chetry, Shreyanka Patil, and Saika Ishaque have been selected to play for India after their fantastic performances in the WPL. Meg Lanning, the captain of the Delhi Capitals, said she has loved watching the improvement of Indian players thanks to the chances they get in the WPL.

With the Women’s ODI World Cup taking place in India later this year, the WPL is also an opportunity for Indian players to show what they can do. Harmanpreet Kaur, the captain of Mumbai Indians, explained that the WPL has helped bridge the gap between domestic and international cricket. It even made her job as a captain easier because players are now more prepared for the international stage.

Deepti Sharma, the new captain of UP Warriorz, mentioned that playing with international stars boosts the confidence of younger players. She believes sharing the field with them helps everyone understand the game better.

The money players can earn has changed many lives. During the 2025 WPL auction, Gujarat Giants paid 19 million Indian rupees (about $218,800) for an uncapped player named Simran Shaikh. She was surprised to earn so much and said, “I thought I would get around 10-12 lakhs (roughly a million)” but never expected to be signed for crores (tens of millions).

RCB captain Smriti Mandhana highlighted that WPL offers financial security to domestic players. This support gives players the freedom to enjoy their game and play their best.

  • Pune Man Arrested for ₹4.8 Lakh Job Scam with Army Fake Promise

Pune Man Arrested for ₹4.8 Lakh Job Scam with Army Fake Promise

The Pune police, working with the Military Intelligence, have caught a man named Mohit Dhami for tricking two people out of ₹4.8 lakh (about $6,000) by pretending to offer them jobs in the Army. Dhami, who lives in Uttarakhand, claimed he worked at the Army Command Hospital in Pune.

A 23-year-old man from Dhule, Maharashtra, filed a complaint after he and another person met Dhami when they came to Pune for a staff selection exam in March 2024. Dhami told them he could get them jobs in the Army, despite the fact that they were too old to apply.

At first, he asked each of them for ₹5,000 but ended up getting ₹4.8 lakh from them. Once they realized they had been cheated, they went to the police. Dhami was arrested based on their complaint and is now facing legal action under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita law. The police are continuing their investigation.

  • Coca-Cola Under Fire: Rumors of Latino Layoffs Spark Boycott Movement

Coca-Cola Under Fire: Rumors of Latino Layoffs Spark Boycott Movement

Coca-Cola is facing a lot of criticism after rumors spread that the company fired Latino employees and reported them to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) when Donald Trump was president. This led to the rise of the “Latino Freeze Movement,” a group pushing back against Trump’s decisions that weakened support for diversity and made immigration rules stricter.

People began to boycott Coca-Cola after unconfirmed reports claimed the company dismissed Latino workers at a bottling plant in Texas and then called ICE on them. Coca-Cola’s spokesperson said, “The accusation that we called immigration authorities to help separate undocumented workers is completely false.”

Coca-Cola’s CEO gave a special Diet Coke bottle to President Trump, which made many people question the company’s policies on diversity and inclusion. However, Coca-Cola hasn’t shared any updates on its policies.

The Latino Freeze Movement encourages Latinos to stop buying from U.S. brands and instead support Latin American companies. Their website says, “Latinos and Latinas, stop spending money. We can all make a big difference by not spending.”

Rumors gained popularity on social media, especially TikTok. One video from lawyer Trang Tran claimed Coca-Cola laid off “thousands of Latin American workers” in a “Cerberus Bottling Plant” in Texas and reported them to ICE. Another video in Spanish, which got nearly three million views, wrongly claimed that Coca-Cola tried to apologize later.

However, there is no proof that Coca-Cola fired many workers, and there is no record of a “Cerberus Bottling Plant” in Texas. The Latino Freeze Movement also encourages Latinos to choose Latin American brands over U.S. ones, especially in light of Trump’s Trade tariffs.

Latinos make up approximately 20% of the U.S. population, according to 2023 census data. Meanwhile, Coca-Cola products are popular in Latin America, reaching about 530 million consumers and generating $120 billion in revenue.

  • Kimmel Defends Taylor Swift Against Trump’s Super Bowl Insult

Kimmel Defends Taylor Swift Against Trump’s Super Bowl Insult

Late-night TV host Jimmy Kimmel came to Taylor Swift’s rescue after former President Donald Trump made fun of her at the Super Bowl 2025. Trump, posting on his social media platform Truth Social, joked that Swift was booed and said, “The only one that had a tougher night than the Kansas City Chiefs was Taylor Swift. She got BOOED out of the Stadium. MAGA is very unforgiving.”

Trump has not been a fan of Taylor since she supported Kamala Harris in September 2024.

In his monologue, Kimmel quickly corrected Trump, saying, “Taylor didn’t get booed out of the stadium; she stayed for the whole game. Unlike you, who left at halftime!” Kimmel continued, saying that it was actually Eagles fans booing her when the jumbotron showed her. “But you’re right, it’s all about you. It’s always all about you,” he joked.

Kimmel also joked that Trump is just “jealous of Taylor Swift because she has more followers, more money, and no kids than he does.”

At the game, Taylor was there to support her boyfriend Travis Kelce, who plays for the Kansas City Chiefs. When the cameras focused on her, she did get some boos from the Philadelphia Eagles fans. Meanwhile, when the cameras showed Trump, people had mixed reactions with cheers and boos. Some people think the TV team showed him during Jon Batiste’s national anthem to avoid a lot of booing.

When asked about Trump being at the Super Bowl, Kelce said, “That’s awesome. No matter who the president is … it’s the biggest game of my life. Having the president there is great in this amazing country.”

Viral Video of Racist Train Rant Sparks Outrage and Backlash

A video of a man saying “Indians belong to England” and “We gave India back to India” has gone viral and upset many people online. The video was recorded on a train in the UK and shows the man talking loudly about immigrants while a woman, who said she is the “daughter of an Indian immigrant,” looks uncomfortable.

Gabrielle Forsyth, who posted the video on X (formerly Twitter), said she deleted it because people were sending her racist messages. She explained that she met the man when she was on a train and recorded his rant. Although she took the video down, it quickly spread to other social media platforms.

Many users reacted strongly. Some suggested that the man should be fired from his job, while others called for his identity to be revealed. One person even said, “Why is no one stopping him?” This shows how upset people are about what he said.

Gabrielle later shared that she faced a lot of hate after the video went viral. She announced that the man had been identified and that she would go to the police about the incident. She asked everyone to “just lay off” her because she was tired of all the negativity.

  • Gold Prices Climb as Inflation and Trade War Concerns Rise

Gold Prices Climb as Inflation and Trade War Concerns Rise

Gold prices went up slightly on Thursday as the markets followed news about U.S. President Donald Trump’s plans to impose tariffs. This could lead to a global trade war and raise inflation in the U.S. Investors are also waiting for important inflation data that is set to be released later.

As of 12:24 AM GMT, gold was priced at $2,905.12 per ounce, having dropped more than 1% after the U.S. consumer price index was published in the previous session. Gold reached an all-time high of $2,942.70 earlier this week. For U.S. gold futures, the price stayed steady at $2,929.60.

In January, the U.S. consumer price index went up more than expected which indicates that the Federal Reserve is not planning to reduce interest rates anytime soon. Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell mentioned that the fight against rising prices is not over and that further rate cuts will be on hold until it is clear that inflation is going to return to the Fed’s target of 2%.

Gold is often seen as a safe investment during inflation, but higher interest rates can make it less appealing. Trump stated that he would impose tariffs on countries that charge duties on U.S. goods, raising concerns about a potential trade war that may further increase inflation in the U.S.

Investors are also paying attention to the upcoming Producer Price Index (PPI) data set to be released, as it could offer more clues about future monetary policy.

Additionally, silver prices rose 0.1% to $32.26 per ounce, platinum prices remained steady at $992.32, and palladium prices increased by 0.2% to $975.48.

  • NASA’s Budget Under Review: Elon Musk’s DOGE Takes Charge!

NASA’s Budget Under Review: Elon Musk’s DOGE Takes Charge!

NASA’s acting leader, Janet Petro, announced that a special group called DOGE, led by Elon Musk, will review how NASA spends its money. She mentioned that many NASA employees accepted a buyout plan offered by the government.

DOGE will look at NASA’s payments and spending to find areas where costs can be cut, similar to what they’ve done in other government agencies. Musk’s SpaceX works closely with NASA, holding contracts worth about $15 billion. These contracts help send astronauts to the International Space Station and prepare for moon landings using SpaceX’s Starship.

When asked about possible conflicts of interest with Musk leading DOGE, Petro reassured that NASA has strict rules to prevent this. The agency will check any DOGE employees for conflicts before they start working on NASA matters.

A small team of Trump administration officials is already reviewing NASA’s different science and space programs, which make up NASA’s $24 billion yearly budget. Petro said everyone is trying to understand the many new executive orders coming their way.

There are concerns about NASA’s plan to land humans on the moon, especially with changing priorities around Mars missions. DOGE is likely to focus on saving money from NASA’s expensive programs, like the Space Launch System rocket. This could be tricky because this rocket supports many jobs in states where Republicans have a strong presence.

  • US Inflation Rises: Global Market Reactions Explained Simply

US Inflation Rises: Global Market Reactions Explained Simply

Recently, there was a big drop in US government bonds, and it affected markets around the world. This happened because US inflation came in higher than expected. Investors now believe that the Federal Reserve may not lower interest rates as much this year.

In Australia and New Zealand, bond yields went up after US Treasury yields increased. A bond yield goes higher when bond prices fall. For example, the 10-year US Treasury yield rose by nine basis points in one day—the biggest jump since December.

On Thursday, Australian shares opened slightly higher, and stocks in Japan and Hong Kong also rose. US-listed Chinese companies saw a significant increase of 2.7%. Despite a small decline in the S&P 500 (down 0.3%) and a slight rise in the Nasdaq 100 (up 0.1%) on Wednesday, US stock futures showed promise for a rebound.

Oil prices steadied after falling on news about US-Russia talks regarding Ukraine, and gold continued to rise after reaching a record high earlier in the week. The strength of the US dollar changed little, while the Japanese yen remained stable, having dropped over 1% on Wednesday. The euro also held onto its previous gains against the dollar.

The main reason for all these changes was the unexpected rise in US prices, leading traders to think the Federal Reserve might only cut rates once this year, possibly in December. The US consumer price index went up by 0.5% in January, which is the biggest increase since August 2023. Core CPI, which doesn’t include food and energy costs, also rose more than expected.

Ellen Zentner from Morgan Stanley said, “The Fed has to be patient about rate cuts until we see inflation dropping clearly.” Fed Chair Jerome Powell mentioned that while they’ve made progress in tackling inflation, they still have more work to do.

Seema Shah from Principal Asset Management commented, “This inflation report may worry the Fed. If inflation keeps rising, it could stop them from cutting rates this year.”

In Asia, important data is set to be released, including producer prices for Japan and a decision on interest rates in the Philippines. Meanwhile, India’s Prime Minister Modi is expected to meet Donald Trump at the White House.

Chris Zaccarelli from Northlight Asset Management believes that the Fed might even have to raise rates instead of cutting them, which could lead to negative reactions in the market.

While the recent rise in US inflation caught many off guard, Bloomberg Economics noted that it mainly happened due to typical price changes at the start of the year. Even though this spooked investors, it’s essential to remember that the increase is influenced by seasonal trends.

The S&P 500 index saw minor declines after initially falling, but some companies, like Tesla and Meta Platforms, showed strong performance. Cisco Systems also surged after giving a positive sales forecast.
