Lights Out! Confusion Strikes Adelaide Test Match

The exciting pink-ball Test match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy is happening right now in Adelaide. On the first day, something strange happened at the Adelaide Oval that confused both players and fans. During Australia’s first innings, the floodlight towers turned off twice while Harshit Rana from India was bowling the 18th over. This caused delays in the evening, and fans became more involved by turning on the flashlights on their phones.

As a result of the delays, the last session of the match was extended by three extra minutes. But what caused the lights to go out? According to a report, the Australian team had asked the Adelaide Oval management to switch on the net lights for the game. When the staff in the control room were adjusting the lights, four of the floodlight towers accidentally turned off.

Tom Koutsantonis, a South Australian MP, tweeted that there was no power shortage in the area, confirming that the lights went out not due to a lack of electricity. David Warner made a joke during the broadcast, saying, “Someone hasn’t paid their bills here.” Mark Howard also chimed in, joking that people in South Australia should avoid using their air conditioners or kettles to save power.

On the field, things weren’t going well for India as they scored just 180 runs in their first innings. Meanwhile, Australia did much better, finishing with 337 runs, thanks to a fantastic century from Travis Head, who scored 140 runs off 141 balls with 17 fours and four sixes.

  • JD(U) Concerns: Will BJP Replace Nitish Kumar Before 2025 Elections?

JD(U) Concerns: Will BJP Replace Nitish Kumar Before 2025 Elections?

The JD(U) party, led by Nitish Kumar in Bihar, is worried about the recent political changes in Maharashtra. There, Eknath Shinde was taken out of his job as Chief Minister, and now Devendra Fadnavis is back in charge. The BJP, part of the ruling alliance, has promised that Nitish Kumar will lead Bihar in the 2025 assembly elections. However, JD(U) leaders fear that the BJP might try to push Nitish aside if they get close to winning a majority in the 243-seat assembly.

Although JD(U) leaders haven’t spoken openly about this, some senior members are nervous about what the BJP might do. They remember how, in Maharashtra, Shinde was the choice for Chief Minister but was removed after the BJP gained a majority.

Inside JD(U), the big worry is if the BJP will try to replace Nitish Kumar if they reach the important 122-seat mark needed for a majority in Bihar. In the last assembly elections in 2020, JD(U) got only 43 seats, while the BJP won 74. Still, Nitish was made Chief Minister thanks to the support of the BJP leaders, even though he felt uneasy about accepting the role due to his party’s weakness.

Some believe the situation in Bihar is different. A JD(U) leader mentioned that unlike Shinde, Nitish has strong support from the people in Bihar. He highlighted that JD(U)’s vote share is very important to the NDA alliance’s strength in the state.

JD(U) spokesperson Neeraj Kumar emphasized that Nitish’s position in Bihar is significant, regardless of differing opinions. Political experts think the BJP won’t replace him since there’s no good alternative. They argue that if Nitish leaves the NDA, it could create serious problems for the BJP.

JD(U) has also shown it is not pleased with the BJP on specific social and political issues. For example, JD(U) spokesperson Rajiv Ranjan Prasad criticized a recent decision in Assam to ban beef consumption, saying it could lead to societal divisions and calling for individual rights.

As the political situation in Bihar develops, JD(U) is keeping a close watch on the BJP’s actions ahead of the 2025 assembly elections, knowing their future might depend on how well the NDA operates together.

Prince William in Paris: Meetings with Trump and Biden at Notre Dame

Prince William, the UK’s royal, is visiting Paris to help celebrate the reopening of the Notre Dame Cathedral. While there, he will meet with Jill Biden, the outgoing First Lady of the United States, and Donald Trump, the President-elect.

Trump arrived in Paris for his first international trip after winning the election. He is excited to attend the special ceremony at Notre Dame, which was damaged by a fire in 2019. French President Emmanuel Macron invited several world leaders to this important event.

Trump landed at Orly Airport early in the morning and will have a meeting with Macron later in the afternoon. There are also talks about him meeting with Ukraine’s leader, Volodymyr Zelensky, due to concerns about Russia’s actions in the region.

During the ceremony around 6:00 PM GMT, Trump is expected to join many other leaders to celebrate the cathedral’s restoration. He praised Macron for his efforts and stated it will be a wonderful day.

Despite their previous disagreements, Macron is keen to make this visit special for Trump, just like he did in 2017. However, not everyone wanted to attend; European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen decided to stay back due to a disagreement with Macron.

Gavaskar Questions Indian Bowlers After Travis Head’s Century

Cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar was surprised by how Indian bowlers played against Australia’s Travis Head on Day 2 of the second Test in Adelaide. Head scored a fast century, helping Australia take control in the pink-ball match. He made an impressive 140 runs off just 141 balls, hitting 17 fours and 4 sixes.

Gavaskar pointed out that Indian bowlers missed chances to put pressure on Head. He reminded viewers that Head performed similarly in earlier important matches, like the World Test Championship (WTC) and the ODI World Cup finals, where he also scored big runs.

“It’s confusing. We saw the same problem in important matches before. We didn’t challenge him enough,” Gavaskar mentioned during a discussion on Star Sports.

He specifically criticized bowlers Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj, saying they didn’t make it hard for Head to score runs. “You have to ask them why they didn’t bowl challenging deliveries. Australian players are very good at handling normal balls,” he explained.

Siraj eventually dismissed Head after his impressive innings, but Australia ended their first innings with a strong lead of 157 runs. For India, Bumrah and Siraj were the best bowlers, taking 4 wickets each as Australia outscored India, making 337 runs in reply to India’s 180.

  • Pete Hegseth’s Pentagon Nomination: Lawsuit Threats and Assault Claims

Pete Hegseth’s Pentagon Nomination: Lawsuit Threats and Assault Claims

Former Fox News host Pete Hegseth is threatening to sue a woman who accused him of sexual assault unless he gets appointed as the top official at the Pentagon. His lawyer, Tim Parlatore, said they are looking into a civil extortion lawsuit against her if she doesn’t back down.

In 2017, the woman told the police that Hegseth assaulted her in Monterey, California, while he was speaking at a Republican event. Hegseth claims their encounter was consensual. Although she believed she was drugged and attacked, no charges were brought against him. They eventually reached a settlement and signed a nondisclosure agreement (NDA).

Hegseth’s lawyer claimed the woman broke the NDA by sharing false information about Hegseth, which, if it harms his job prospects, could justify a lawsuit. Hegseth’s lawyer mentioned that since the NDA was violated, it might no longer be valid.

Hegseth has faced several accusations since leaving Fox & Friends Weekend, especially after Trump nominated him for the Pentagon role. He is also accused of heavy drinking while working with veterans’ organizations and at Fox News. Although Hegseth’s mother once emailed him about mistreating women, she later defended him on TV.

Despite these issues, Trump continues to support Hegseth, who is actively seeking the backing of Republican senators for his Defense Secretary nomination.

Congo Faces Urgent Challenge: Disease X Claims 79 Lives

A worrying new illness, named “Disease X,” is hitting the Democratic Republic of the Congo hard. Since late October, it has made nearly 400 people sick and caused 79 deaths, mostly among children under five years old. Health workers in Congo are working all the time to find out what causes this disease.

The sickness, first found on October 24 in the Kwango province, shows symptoms like fever, cough, breathing problems, headaches, and tiredness. Authorities were only notified about it on December 1. Jean Kaseya, a health official, said this delay could be dangerous because a lot can happen in five to six weeks.

Health experts think the disease might spread through the air, especially since it appeared during a time when many people have the flu. Tests are being done on patient samples in a lab far away in Kinshasa, with results expected soon.

This outbreak is raising worries about a new deadly disease that could spread like COVID-19 did. Earlier this year, another virus called mpox spread across countries, leading to major health alerts, even though it mostly stayed in Africa.

The Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is helping Congo with teams of experts to monitor and control the situation. The World Health Organization (WHO) is also sending important medicines and tools to help understand how the disease spreads.

To keep everyone safe, health officials in Hong Kong started checking travelers coming from African cities, while Japan is warning people not to travel to the affected areas
