Bengaluru Police Officer Dies by Suicide After Family Torment

A 33-year-old police officer named Thippanna Alugur sadly took his own life in Bengaluru on Friday night. He left a note saying that his wife, Parvati, and her father, Yamunappa, had caused him a lot of pain and trouble, which led him to make this decision. Thippanna lived in Electronic City and worked at the Hulimavu police station. He originally came from Handiganuru village in North Karnataka.

Thippanna had been married to Parvati for three years, but they didn’t have any children. On the day he died, he worked his first shift from 8 am to 2 pm, then returned home. After arriving, he had a strong argument with Parvati. During this time, Yamunappa allegedly called Thippanna and insulted him.

Thippanna’s note said that during this call, which happened at 7:26 pm and lasted for 14 minutes, Yamunappa threatened him and said that dying would make Parvati happy. Sadly, at about 8 pm, people walking near the railway tracks found Thippanna’s body. He was still wearing his police uniform.

In the note, Thippanna also asked a friend named Malappa from the Karnataka State Reserve Police to pick up his ‘Cheeta’ motorcycle, which police officers use while on duty.

Thippanna’s mother, Basamma Alugur, has reported to the police that she believes her daughter-in-law Parvati and her father Yamunappa pushed her son to end his life because of their treatment of him. The police have said they will ask Parvati and Yamunappa to come in for questioning. This heartbreaking news comes after another individual, a tech worker named Subhash Atul, also committed suicide recently, claiming that his wife and in-laws contributed to his suffering.

  • PM Modi’s Strong Critique of Congress: Constitution Changes Explained

PM Modi’s Strong Critique of Congress: Constitution Changes Explained

During a heated discussion in the Lok Sabha, Prime Minister Narendra Modi criticized the Congress political party, saying they often change the Constitution for their own benefits. He used examples from India’s first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, and former Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi, to show how Congress may have disrespected the Constitution.

Modi mentioned that in 1951, Nehru told the Chief Ministers that if the Constitution was a problem, they should change it. “Nehru said this!” Modi emphasized. He pointed out that even then, President Dr. Rajendra Prasad and Speaker tried to stop Nehru, but he didn’t listen.

Modi accused one family in Congress of damaging the Constitution and impacting Indian democracy. He argued that Congress’s rule for 55 years should be examined closely to find out what really happened.

He expressed that Congress got used to changing the Constitution, having made 75 amendments over 60 years. He said that Nehru started this trend, which continued with Indira Gandhi, who changed laws to give more power to Parliament and limit the judiciary’s authority. Modi also mentioned that Rajiv Gandhi harmed the Constitution by reversing a Supreme Court decision.

Time Magazine’s First Fact-Check for Person of the Year: Trump 2024

Time Magazine recently announced Donald Trump as its 2024 Person of the Year. This is the second time he has received this honor; the first was in 2016. Unlike previous years, Time decided to fact-check Trump’s statements from his interview, marking a big change for the magazine.

This is the first time in almost 100 years that Time has done such a detailed fact-check for its Person of the Year. They looked carefully at 15 claims Trump made during the interview, wanting to make sure the information was correct.

Why did Time do this? They believe it’s important to check the facts in interviews with big public figures. Time had also fact-checked other leaders like Joe Biden and Benjamin Netanyahu, but this is the first time they’ve done it for a Person of the Year.

During the interview, Time pointed out errors in Trump’s statements regarding border security, autism rates, and the size of his rally crowds. For example, Trump called his election victory a “massive” win, but Time reminded readers that former President Barack Obama had more electoral votes in his two elections.

Time also found that Trump said he was willing to talk to anyone who wanted an interview. However, they noted that he had turned down an interview with CBS’s 60 Minutes during his campaign. Instead, he chose to speak more to podcasts than to traditional news outlets, which seemed inconsistent.

Additionally, Time questioned the claims Trump made about autism, saying they weren’t backed by science, and argued that he overstated the attendance numbers at his rallies.

  • Omar Abdullah Urges Quick Restoration of Statehood for Jammu and Kashmir

Omar Abdullah Urges Quick Restoration of Statehood for Jammu and Kashmir

Omar Abdullah, the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, has pointed out problems with the current system where he shares power with the lieutenant governor. He believes this setup is not good for the region and has urged the central government to quickly bring back statehood to Jammu and Kashmir.

In his first major interview since becoming chief minister, Abdullah expressed some hope that the central government would honor its promises about restoring statehood. He referred to promises made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah during their election campaigns.

Abdullah related this issue to how businesses operate, saying that having two leaders is never a good idea. For a team or a government to function well, there should only be one leader. He compared it to sports, where each team has one captain.

He argued that having two power centers, like in Delhi, where the government shares power with the lieutenant governor, has led to many issues. He emphasized that Jammu and Kashmir needs a united government, especially since it’s a large region near China and Pakistan.

Abdullah pointed out that since becoming a Union Territory in August 2019, Jammu and Kashmir has not seen any benefits. He stated, “I have yet to see a single example of how we have gained from being a Union Territory.”

He mentioned that Jammu and Kashmir was made a Union Territory after Article 370 was removed, which had given it special status. Recently, the Supreme Court instructed that assembly elections should happen by September and that statehood should be restored soon.

After the elections, Abdullah’s party, the National Conference, won a significant number of seats. He argued that the only reason elections were held was due to the Supreme Court’s involvement concerning statehood.

Abdullah admitted he has a backup plan in case statehood isn’t restored. He believes that promises made by the central government should be kept. He pointed out that voters showed up because they want statehood back, and the government has to act on it.

He added that the final say on restoring statehood lies with the Prime Minister and the Home Minister. Abdullah described the government setup as a learning process and acknowledged the difficulties faced during this transition. He noted that while the lieutenant governor manages law and order, the elected government handles other duties, and they are working to clarify roles within the administration.

  • Farmers Halt Delhi March After Police Clashes: Demands for Justice

Farmers Halt Delhi March After Police Clashes: Demands for Justice

On Saturday, farmers marching to Delhi paused their journey after some were hurt by tear gas used by police in Haryana, near the Punjab border. Sarwan Singh Pandher, a farmer leader from Punjab, informed reporters that their group, called ‘jatha’, had decided to return for the day. He mentioned that around 17 to 18 farmers were injured in the clash, and that some police officers also used rubber bullets, causing serious injuries to one farmer.

Pandher claimed that the police used water mixed with chemicals to push back the farmers, and that they fired more tear gas than before. However, Rajat Gulia, a Deputy Superintendent of Police in Ambala, denied these claims. While the government is discussing the 75th anniversary of the Constitution in Parliament, Pandher pointed out that no one is speaking up for farmers. He questioned why a group of 101 farmers could pose a threat to law and order.

The farmers resumed their walk to Delhi around noon but were halted by barricades set up by the Haryana police. This was their third attempt to enter the capital, having previously tried on December 6 and December 8, but were stopped each time. The farmers, representing the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (Non-Political) and Kisan Mazdoor Morcha, have been staying at Shambhu and Khanauri border points since February 13 after being blocked by police.

They are demanding a legal guarantee for Minimum Support Price (MSP), along with other requests like debt relief, pensions for farmers and laborers, not increasing electricity rates, dropping police cases, and justice for victims of past violence in Lakhimpur Kheri.

  • Kangana Ranaut: Bollywood’s Disconnect and the Rise of South Cinema

Kangana Ranaut: Bollywood’s Disconnect and the Rise of South Cinema

Kangana Ranaut has shared her thoughts on why South Indian movies are doing better at the box office than Bollywood films. She believes one big reason is that many Hindi movies have lost touch with real life.

In an interview at Agenda Aaj Tak, Kangana was asked why films like Allu Arjun’s “Pushpa” are so popular. She stated, “I don’t think we should only call Bollywood mainstream.” She thinks all Indian films should be seen as part of one big industry that appeals to everyone.

Kangana explained that Allu Arjun’s role in “Pushpa” as a daily wage worker connects with people. “Bollywood actors live in a bubble,” she said, adding that they often ignore reality. Instead of focusing on real people, many in Bollywood are more interested in having perfect bodies, glamorous scenes, and catchy songs.

She argued that Bollywood movies often rely on flashy images rather than real-life struggles. According to her, if they took a reality check, they could create better films.

The “Pushpa” films have been a huge success. The first movie, “Pushpa: The Rise,” released in 2021, made over ₹136 crore in Telugu and an extra ₹106 crore for its Hindi version, making it Allu Arjun’s most successful film. The sequel, “Pushpa 2: The Rule,” continues the story of Pushpa Raj, showing his rise from a daily wage worker to running a smuggling operation. Rashmika Mandanna plays his supportive wife, Srivalli, while Fahadh Faasil portrays the determined police officer Bhanwar Singh Shekawat who wants to take down Pushpa.
