Ranya Rao Arrested: Concerns Over Alleged Abuse in DRI Custody

Karnataka actress Ranya Rao was arrested at Kempegowda International Airport on March 3 for allegedly smuggling 14.8 kilograms of gold from Dubai. After her arrest, a photo showing her with swollen eyes and bruises started spreading on social media. This raised questions about whether she was treated badly while in custody of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI).

The chairperson of the Karnataka State Commission for Women, Nagalakshmi Chaudhary, responded to concerns about Ranya’s condition. She said they cannot investigate unless Ranya files an official complaint. Chaudhary strongly condemned any violence against Ranya, emphasizing that no one should ever be assaulted.

She stated that if Ranya decides to file a complaint, the commission will look into it and help her. For now, without a complaint, they can’t take any action.

Meanwhile, Ranya is in DRI custody for three days, as the agency wants to check where the smuggled gold came from and who was supposed to receive it. They mentioned possible connections to “anti-national activities.”

  • Trump’s Game Plan to Save Federal Jobs and Improve Efficiency

Trump’s Game Plan to Save Federal Jobs and Improve Efficiency

Former President Donald Trump is stepping in to address a wave of job cuts happening in U.S. federal departments. This situation is happening because of a new initiative called the Department of Government Efficiency, or DOGE, which aimed to save money by reducing staff.

Many lawmakers and federal workers are unhappy with the layoffs, so Trump has told DOGE to focus on keeping the most productive employees. He wants to make sure that people who truly contribute value to the government stay in their jobs.

During a meeting at the White House, Trump spoke with key advisors, including Elon Musk, who leads DOGE. Trump suggested that the layoffs might have been too severe, and he wants a more careful approach. Instead of making broad cuts, he believes they should be more thoughtful.

After the meeting, Trump posted on Truth Social, saying that as secretaries get to know their teams better, they will be able to make better decisions about who to keep and who to let go. The idea is to cut only unneeded positions while retaining valuable workers.

  • WHO Offers Early Retirement to Cut Costs After US Exit

WHO Offers Early Retirement to Cut Costs After US Exit

The World Health Organization (WHO) has asked its older workers to think about retiring early to save money. This comes after the United States announced it would leave the WHO. The email sent to employees says that workers aged 55 or older can take a special deal: if they accept, they will receive four months’ pay and leave the job by July 15.

Typically, WHO workers can retire at 65 years old. However, those who joined before 2014 can retire at 62, and those hired before 1990 can retire at 60. If they accept the early retirement, these workers will need to work for three more months to help pass on their tasks. They will also receive payment for 45 days of vacation time they didn’t use. If they are international workers, they will get money to help them move back to their home countries.

This is part of WHO’s plan to save money after the U.S. cut its funding significantly. The U.S. has contributed $1.3 billion to WHO since 2022, helping the organization fight diseases like HIV, polio, Ebola, and the recent Marburg virus outbreak. WHO’s Director General, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, disagreed with the U.S. decision, saying the reasons given for leaving are not based on facts.

While this early retirement plan could save money, it might also mean the loss of some of WHO’s most skilled workers. It’s still uncertain whether the organization will need to lay off any employees if not enough choose to retire early.

  • Maharashtra’s Ladki Bahin Yojana: Empowering Women with ₹17,500 Crore!

Maharashtra’s Ladki Bahin Yojana: Empowering Women with ₹17,500 Crore!

The Maharashtra government has given over Rs 17,500 crores to 2.38 crore women through the Ladki Bahin Yojana by December 2024, just five months after starting the program. This information was shared in the government’s Economic Survey report presented in the assembly.

The Ladki Bahin Yojana, launched in August 2023 by the previous Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, helps eligible women receive Rs 1,500 every month directly into their bank accounts. This program supports women aged 21 to 65, aiming to boost their jobs and help them become more independent. It also focuses on improving health and nutrition for women and the children who rely on them.

This scheme was important in helping the Mahayuti alliance, which includes the BJP, Shiv Sena, and NCP, to win 230 out of 288 assembly seats in the November 2024 elections. During the campaign, Mahayuti leaders promised to raise the monthly support from Rs 1,500 to Rs 2,100.

However, some opposition members have questioned whether this program is financially possible, especially since Maharashtra has a big deficit of Rs 2 lakh crore.

As of March 2024, there are over 16 lakh self-help groups (SHGs) in Maharashtra. Many of these groups are for women, helping them save and get loans. In the year 2024-25, women SHGs borrowed around Rs 10,475 crores and saved Rs 1,404 crores.

The report also mentioned that the Maharashtra State Commission for Women received complaints about various issues, including marriage problems, harassment, and crimes against women. The rate of crimes against women has slightly increased from 75 per 1 lakh in 2022 to 77 per lakh in 2023.

  • Madras High Court Rejects Election Challenge Against Dayanidhi Maran

Madras High Court Rejects Election Challenge Against Dayanidhi Maran

The Madras High Court has turned down a request to challenge the election of Dayanidhi Maran, the DMK candidate from Chennai Central, in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Judge N Anand Venkatesh dismissed the case filed by M L Ravi, an advocate who also ran for the same seat.

The judge agreed with Maran’s application to remove parts of Ravi’s petition. He explained that there was nothing solid in Ravi’s claims about how Maran spent money on stickers placed on houses. The judge said Ravi’s estimates were too vague, and there was no real proof that the stickers were linked to Maran.

Next, the judge looked at claims about Maran covering food costs for election workers. Ravi’s allegations lacked details and sounded more like guesses. The judge noted that these workers were mostly party supporters who might have brought their own food and drinks.

Finally, Ravi pointed to a rally that took place on April 14 and 15, 2024, claiming it wasn’t recorded properly in Maran’s expenses. However, the judge stated that the videos didn’t clearly show Maran was involved in the rally. Therefore, the court decided that Ravi’s claims about Maran’s spending were mostly based on assumptions rather than facts. This meant there was no real reason to suspect fraud, so the case was dismissed.

Matt Henry’s Fitness in Doubt: New Zealand vs. India Champions Trophy Final

New Zealand’s bowling team has played a big part in their journey to the final of the 2025 Champions Trophy. They are set to face India on Sunday, but there’s some worry about their star bowler, Matt Henry. He got hurt while catching a ball during the semi-final against South Africa in Lahore.

New Zealand’s head coach, Gary Stead, shared some good news: “He managed to bowl again, which is positive. We’ve done some tests, and we’ll do our best to have him play in the final. We’re still unsure at the moment.”

In their earlier match of the tournament, New Zealand lost to India by 44 runs, but Henry made a strong impression, taking 5 wickets for 42 runs. He even got out some top Indian players like Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli. Henry has been very successful against India in his career and is currently the leading wicket-taker of the tournament, with 10 wickets at an average of 16.70 and an economy rate of 5.32.

Coach Stead added, “He’s a bit sore from landing on his shoulder, but we hope he will be alright.”

    Henry’s Increasing Power

Matt Henry started as a bowler who shines with the new ball, but he has now become a big threat no matter when he bowls. According to ESPNCricinfo, he is tied for the most wickets in the last ten overs of ODI cricket, with 25 wickets in 20 matches, and he has a great economy rate of 6.79.

Since 2023, Henry has one of the best bowling averages of 12.36 among bowlers who have bowled at least 200 balls between the 40th and 50th overs. He has taken a total of 136 wickets across all formats, making him the highest wicket-taker since 2023. Other famous bowlers like Ravindra Jadeja and Jasprit Bumrah follow him in the rankings.

  • Ranveer Allahbadia Apologizes for Inappropriate Jokes on YouTube Show

Ranveer Allahbadia Apologizes for Inappropriate Jokes on YouTube Show

Last month, Ranveer Allahbadia stirred up a lot of trouble after making inappropriate jokes during a YouTube episode of India’s Got Latent. Many people criticized him on social media for saying things that were offensive and disrespectful to women. A few days later, he apologized with a video message.

On Friday, Ranveer and his co-host Apoorva Mukhija met with the National Commission for Women (NCW) to discuss their actions. They spent hours being questioned and ended up submitting written apologies.

Ranveer promised the NCW that he would be mindful of his words in the future. He said, “This is the first and last time I will make such a mistake. From now on, I’ll choose my words carefully and show respect toward women.” Vijaya Rahatkar, the chairperson of the panel, also stressed that the NCW does not accept the use of inappropriate language, saying, “Such remarks are simply not acceptable.”

The controversy started during a member-only episode of India’s Got Latent, where Ranveer asked a contestant a shocking question: “Would you rather watch your parents have sex every day for the rest of your life or join in once and stop it forever?”

Earlier, he shared a video apology on social media where he admitted, “I shouldn’t have said what I did on India’s Got Latent. I’m really sorry. My comment was not just inappropriate—it wasn’t even funny. Comedy isn’t my strong suit. I’m here to apologize for the way I used my platform. I had a lapse in judgment, and it was not cool.”

Delhi Mayor Cracks Down on Illegal Spas, Hotels, and Restaurants!

Mayor Mahesh Kumar has ordered the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) to take serious action against illegal spa centers, unlicensed OYO hotels, and unauthorized restaurants in the city. This decision was made during a meeting on Thursday, where key officials like Deputy Mayor Ravindra Bhardwaj and other health officers were present.

Kumar emphasized the need to stop these illegal businesses because they can be dangerous for the public and lead to financial losses for the corporation. He has asked the public health department to create a solid plan to shut down these illegal places. “We need to act against illegal spas, unauthorized restaurants, and unlicensed OYO hotels across Delhi,” Kumar stated clearly.

Additionally, the mayor pointed out that these unauthorized businesses do not pay for licenses and approvals, which hurts the MCD’s finances. Kumar said, “Our main goal is to boost our income and make sure there are no financial barriers in providing services and help to the people of Delhi.”
