On December 1, President Joe Biden decided to pardon his son, Hunter Biden, lifting tax and gun-related charges against him. This came even after Joe had previously promised not to get involved with the Justice Department’s work. The pardon was issued just weeks before Hunter was supposed to be sentenced for his legal troubles.
Hunter Biden, aged 54, had been under investigation since December 2020, mostly about his business dealings in China. Reports showed that he failed to pay around $1.4 million in taxes and was caught up in a gun-related case. In June 2024, a court found him guilty of lying when he bought a gun, claiming he wasn’t addicted to drugs, while there was cocaine in his gun pouch.
Hunter Biden’s pardon covers any offenses from January 1, 2014, to December 1, 2024. After the pardon, his legal team released a document saying these legal issues were politically motivated, meant to attack Joe Biden during his presidential campaign.
Joe Biden defending his decision, explaining that he believed Hunter was treated unfairly due to pressure from his political enemies. In his statement, he said, “These charges only came about because my political opponents wanted to hurt me.”

Devendra Fadnavis Announced as New Maharashtra CM: What’s Next?
A senior leader from the BJP announced that Devendra Fadnavis is set to become the new Chief Minister of Maharashtra. The announcement comes just before a meeting where the BJP will choose its new leader on December 2 or 3.
Eknath Shinde, the current Chief Minister, has shown his full support for the BJP’s decision. The choice of the new Chief Minister will be made by top leaders of the BJP, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and Party President JP Nadda.
Shinde also talked about his son, Shrikant Shinde, possibly becoming the Deputy Chief Minister and mentioned that they want to have the Home Ministry role as well. Shinde’s party, Shiv Sena, along with their partners will decide together how to form the new government.
In the recent assembly elections, the BJP-led alliance, which includes Shiv Sena and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), won a total of 230 of the 288 seats. The BJP won 132 seats, Shiv Sena got 57, and NCP secured 41.
A special ceremony for the new government will happen on December 5 at Azad Maidan with Prime Minister Modi attending.
Even though there is a push for unity in their alliance, some voices have expressed different views. For example, Shiv Sena MLA Gulabrao Patil said his party could have won 90-100 seats if the NCP hadn’t joined forces with them. Former minister Raosaheb Danve also mentioned that if the Shiv Sena and BJP had worked together, they might have won even more seats.
Both Eknath Shinde and Devendra Fadnavis are the main candidates in discussions about who will be the new Chief Minister of Maharashtra

Farmers to March to Delhi Demanding Fair Compensation and Rights
Delhi is getting ready for more farmer protests. Farmers will start marching toward the national capital on Monday, December 2, as reported by news source ANI. Sukhbir Khalifa, a leader from the Bhartiya Kisan Parishad (BKP), said they are calling for fair payment and better benefits from new farming laws.
Khalifa mentioned, “We will begin our march from under the Maha Maya flyover in Noida. We expect to arrive in Delhi by noon to demand our rights.”
On the same day, other farmer groups like the Kisan Mazdoor Morcha (KMM) and the Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM), which are not political, will begin their own marches on December 6. Farmers in Kerala, Uttarakhand, and Tamil Nadu will also have symbolic marches to their local assemblies that day.
Farmers from the Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee (KMSC) at the Shambhu border, which is between Punjab and Haryana, plan to join these protests on December 6. They have been staying at these border points since February when they were stopped from marching to Delhi by security forces.
The first group of farmers, or “jatha,” will be led by farmers’ leaders like Satnam Singh Pannu and Surinder Singh Chautala. They will carry important supplies and plan to walk peacefully to Delhi. The farmers will march daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and sleep outdoors at night. Along the way, they will stop at places like Jaggi city center in Ambala and the Mohra grain market in Haryana.
What are the Farmers Asking For?
Farmers want a legally guaranteed Minimum Support Price (MSP), loan waivers for farmers, pensions for farm workers, no increases in electricity costs, and the withdrawal of police cases against them. They also want justice for the victims of the 2021 Lakhimpur Kheri violence and compensation for families of farmers who died during previous protests.A government team, including Union ministers Arjun Munda and Piyush Goyal, met with farmers on February 18, but the farmers rejected the offer to buy certain crops at MSP for five years. KMSC leader Sarwan Singh Pandher criticized the government for stopping talks with farmers. “They aren’t talking to us anymore. We want a legal guarantee on the MSP for crops,” he said

ISKCON Members Denied Entry to India Amid Concerns for Hindus in Bangladesh
In a surprising move, at least 54 members of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) were stopped from entering India at the Benapole border. Though they had valid travel documents, Bangladesh’s immigration officials said their travel was “suspicious.” Some reports suggest that more than 70 Hindus were trying to cross the border.
One of the ISKCON members, Saurabh Tapandar Cheli, explained that they planned to attend a religious ceremony in India. However, immigration officials told them they needed permission from the government to enter. Benapole’s Immigration Checkpost Officer, Imtiaz Ahsanul Quader Bhuiyan, stated that they acted based on orders from higher authorities and consulted the police.
The ISKCON group claimed they did not receive clear reasons for their denial at the border, even though they had the correct passports and visas.
This incident comes amid rising tensions in Bangladesh, where Hindu minorities have faced violence from radical Islamist groups. Earlier in the week, India raised concerns about Chinmoy Krishna Das, a member of ISKCON in Bangladesh, who was arrested and denied bail.
Protests broke out in India, especially in West Bengal, where many people called for justice. The Indian government expressed worry about the safety of Hindus in Bangladesh and the rights of minorities to protest peacefully.
Street protests were planned by the Islamist group Hefazat-e-Islam, which is linked to a more radical group named Jamaat-e-Islami, demanding a ban on ISKCON.

Trump’s FBI Shake-Up: Who is Kash Patel?
Donald Trump wants to make big changes to the FBI by bringing in Kash Patel as its new leader. Many Republican senators support Trump’s decision, but they have different views on whether Patel is the right choice.
Senator Chuck Grassley from Iowa, who will lead the Senate Judiciary Committee when Republicans take charge in January, said Patel needs to show Congress that he can help rebuild trust in the FBI. However, Patel doesn’t have the experience that past FBI directors had, like Robert Mueller or Christopher Wray, who is the current director.
Trump’s announcement means Wray may have to resign or be fired when Trump starts his new term on January 20, 2025. Senator Mike Rounds from South Dakota said every president wants loyal people but praised Wray as a good man, questioning why change is needed.
Some Republicans support Patel. Senator Bill Hagerty from Tennessee said Patel could help clean up the FBI, which he believes has serious issues. He thinks Patel has the experience to make the needed changes.
During Trump’s first term, Patel worked with important government committees, helping uncover claims about Russia interfering in the election. Trump said Patel stands for truth and accountability.
Patel wants to remove government workers who he feels are disloyal to Trump. He believes the Justice Department needs a major makeover, aiming to have allies in power who will support rather than criticize the president.
Grassley criticized Wray for not doing his job well and called for more transparency at the FBI. Senator Ted Cruz from Texas thinks Patel is a strong candidate who would bring real change.
On the other hand, Democrats are against Patel becoming FBI director. Senator Chris Murphy from Connecticut says Patel’s only skill is agreeing with Trump to go after political opponents. -
Jagraon Man Commits Car Scam: Sells Borrowed Vehicles From Friend for ₹6 Lakhs
A man from Jagraon borrowed cars from his friends and sold them for ₹6 lakh without telling them. This man, Gurraj Singh, claimed to Rajan Vaidh, a car dealer, that the cars were stolen.
A few months ago, Gurraj told Rajan he had two cars, a Toyota Innova and a Swift Dzire, that belonged to his neighbors who wanted to sell them. Rajan trusted him and paid ₹6 lakh for the cars.
Later, Rajan was shocked when the Jagraon crime branch called him and said the cars actually belonged to two other people. They discovered that Gurraj sold the cars without asking their real owners.
Police officer ASI Satnam Singh is looking into the case. When Gurraj was called in, he promised to return the ₹6 lakh to Rajan but hasn’t done so yet. An FIR has been filed against Gurraj under Section 420 of the Indian Penal Code, and police are working to find him. -
Rahul Gandhi Warns: India’s Economy Hits 5.4% Growth – What’s Next?
On Sunday, Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, said that India’s economy is facing serious issues. He pointed out that the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth rate has dropped to its lowest point in two years, at just 5.4%. He believes that the benefits of economic growth are only reaching a few billionaires while everyday people like farmers, workers, and the middle class are struggling.
Rahul Gandhi shared his concerns on social media, stating, “India’s GDP growth has fallen to its lowest in two years at 5.4%. It’s clear that our economy can’t grow if only a few rich people benefit while others face tough challenges.”
He highlighted that retail inflation, which measures how much prices are rising, has increased to 6.21%, the highest in 14 months. Basic food items like potatoes and onions have nearly doubled in price over the past year. Additionally, the rupee’s value has dropped to 84.50 against the dollar.
Rahul Gandhi also shared worrying facts: “Unemployment is now at its highest in 45 years. Earnings for workers and small business owners have either stayed the same or dropped in the past five years.” He noted that the demand for affordable cars has decreased from 80% to less than 50% because people have less money to spend.
He also pointed out that fewer affordable homes are being sold now compared to last year, and the demand for fast-moving consumer goods is going down. Corporate tax has decreased by 7% over the last ten years, while income tax has risen by 11%. Due to changes like demonetization and the Goods and Services Tax (GST), the share of manufacturing in India’s economy has fallen to just 13%, the lowest rate in 50 years.
Rahul Gandhi emphasized that new ideas are needed to help India’s economy grow. He believes everyone should have equal chances to succeed. Only then can India’s economy truly move forward. -
Taiwan Responds to China and Russia’s Growing Military Threats
Taipei, Taiwan: Taiwan’s Mainland Affairs Council (MAC) has spoken out against China and Russia for creating problems in the Asia-Pacific region. On Friday, they pointed out that Chinese military actions in the Taiwan Strait are causing worries. Earlier this week, China and Russia conducted joint military activities that crossed into South Korea’s air defence zone, making the situation even more serious.
On Thursday and Friday, Chinese warplanes entered Taiwan’s airspace, crossing a line that usually separates the two sides. This included 30 aircraft, 15 naval vessels, and three high-altitude balloons. The Chinese military also carried out a patrol that aimed at Taiwan, which increased tensions in a region that is already tense.
In addition, China and Russia sent a group of 11 warplanes into South Korea’s defence zone on Friday, which led South Korea to send its jets to respond. This group included five Chinese and six Russian planes, which flew over the Sea of Japan and near South Korea’s coast. According to South Korean officials, Russian planes came from the northeast, while Chinese planes entered the area near a spot called Ieodo Rock before heading north.
The MAC strongly criticized these actions, stating that they show how the Chinese Communist Party causes instability in the Taiwan Strait and the wider Asia-Pacific area. The council condemned both countries for making the region less safe and referred to their actions as careless. The Taiwanese government reaffirmed its commitment to protecting regional security, denouncing the provocative steps taken by China and Russia.
