During a podcast with Nikhil Kamath, the co-founder of Zerodha, Prime Minister Narendra Modi shared a special story about his hometown, Vadnagar, and its connection to Chinese President Xi Jinping’s village. This story goes back to 2014, soon after Modi became Prime Minister.

He said, “When I took office in 2014, many world leaders came to visit.” Among them was President Xi, who expressed a desire to visit India. Modi welcomed him and invited him specifically to Gujarat. To Modi’s surprise, Xi expressed a wish to see Vadnagar, Modi’s village.

Xi explained, “You and I have a unique connection. The Chinese philosopher Hiuen Tsang spent a lot of time in your village, Vadnagar. When he went back to China, he settled in my village.”

This story shows the long-standing cultural link between India and China, made strong by great figures like Hiuen Tsang, who traveled in India during the 7th century and helped share knowledge and culture between these two nations. Modi’s words remind us that shared histories can help countries understand each other better, even when there are challenges today.
