As the Delhi elections approach, Arvind Kejriwal, the leader of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), announced that Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) would receive funds to hire private security guards if his party wins again. This promise is part of his campaign to get people’s votes for a third time.
The AAP is known for its programs like improved government schools, free healthcare via mohalla clinics, free electricity,free bus rides for women, and pilgrimage support for senior citizens. Kejriwal wants to add even more benefits, including a monthly payment of ₹2,100 for women, free healthcare for elderly individuals, and ₹10 lakh insurance for auto drivers.
Voting for the 70 assembly seats in Delhi will take place on February 5, and counting the votes will happen on February 8. The AAP faces competition from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Congress, as both will try to stop AAP from winning again.
People can file nominations until January 17 and check them on January 18. Candidates can withdraw their nominations until January 20. The election will happen in one day, and it’s on a Wednesday to encourage people to show up and vote.
The Chief Election Commissioner, Rajiv Kumar, assured that the voter list is accurate and that there are strict rules for adding or removing names, ensuring everyone has a chance to be heard.
Currently, Delhi has about 1.55 crore voters, which includes 83.49 lakh men, 71.74 lakh women, and 1,261 transgender individuals.
