A big meeting took place at the Petrapole-Benapole border between India and Bangladesh on Thursday. Maninder PS Pawar, the Inspector General of the Border Security Forces (BSF) for South Bengal, met with Brigadier General Mohammad Humayun Kabir, the Regional Commander of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB). This meeting was important because there have been challenges in Bangladesh recently.

During their talks, the leaders discussed how both countries can work together for a safer and calmer border and keep peace in the area. Pawar talked about how important it is for the BSF and BGB to cooperate to ensure safety and prosperity in the region. Both sides agreed to make their partnership stronger and keep enhancing good relations between India and Bangladesh.

The meeting included discussions on various topics, such as how to work together against crimes across the border, ongoing projects in border areas, stopping illegal crossings, and managing the border effectively.

India has a long border of 4,096 kilometers with Bangladesh, and 2,216 kilometers of that runs along West Bengal. In South Bengal specifically, there is a 913-kilometer border, and 424 kilometers of it is not fenced.

Two Bangladeshi Women Arrested

On the same day, the police arrested two Bangladeshi women in West Bengal. One of them, Sova Mullick, was caught in the North 24 Parganas district because she did not have Indian documents.

The second woman was arrested in Nadia, where she had been living for six months after crossing the Bongaon border illegally. She had moved to Mumbai for work but returned to Nadia out of fear of being caught, only to be arrested there. She is now in police custody for six days.

In another related case, a man named Samir Das, who worked at the Barasat court, was arrested for being part of a fake passport scheme.

In Malda’s Baishnabnagar area, there were minor disagreements between the BSF and BGB about border fencing on Wednesday night. The BSF and BGB held flag meetings to address these issues. They previously had a problem when the BGB stopped fencing work, but it continued after the issue was resolved.
