SN Subrahmanyan, the chairman of Larsen & Toubro (L&T), is in hot water for his comments about working hours. He suggested that employees should be willing to come to work even on Sundays, making many people unhappy.

In a recent meeting with staff, he answered a question about why the company asks workers to work on Saturdays, which is rare these days. In a video that went viral on Reddit, he said he wished he could make employees work on Sundays too. “I regret I am not able to make you work on Sundays. If I can make you work on Sundays, I will be happier because I work on Sundays,” he said.

His comments got even more criticism when he said he doesn’t understand what employees do during their time at home. “What do you do sitting at home? How long can you look at your wife? Come on, get to the office and start working,” he said, which many found disrespectful.

Deepika Padukone, a famous actor and mental health advocate, responded to the situation. She shared Faye D’Souza’s post on social media and said, “Shocking to see people in such senior positions make such statements. #MentalHealthMatters.”

L&T replied to the backlash, saying they care deeply about building the nation and that hard work is necessary to achieve great results. They emphasized that their CEO’s comments highlight this ambition.

Deepika Padukone, known for her mental health work, started the Live Love Laugh Foundation in 2015 after discussing her battle with depression. The foundation aims to reduce the stigma around mental health and help people get support. It runs programs and campaigns, like “You Are Not Alone,” to educate schools about mental well-being.
