Sunny Deol is back for more action! Just a week after his new movie, Jaat, hit theaters, he announced that there will be a sequel called Jaat 2. This is surprising because Jaat hasn’t been a box office hit. However, the team behind the movie believes it will make enough money to cover costs, so they are moving ahead with Jaat 2.
On Thursday morning, Sunny shared a cool poster for Jaat 2 on Instagram with the message, “#Jaat on to a New Mission! #Jaat2”. It was also revealed that Gopichand Malineni will return to direct the sequel, and the same producers, Naveen Yerneni, Ravi Shankar Y, and TG Vishwa Prasad, will be involved again through Mythri Movie Makers. So far, only Sunny Deol’s return has been confirmed for the cast.
Jaat was Sunny’s first big movie aimed at all of India and marked the Hindi debut of director Gopichand Malineni. The film featured Randeep Hooda as the bad guy and included Regina Cassandra, Saiyami Kher, Vineet Kumar Singh, Prashant Bajaj, Zarina Wahab, and Jagapathi Babu in important roles. While Jaat received mixed reviews from critics, fans enjoyed the action scenes and the performances from Sunny and Randeep.
However, Jaat hasn’t been a big success at the box office. It released on April 10 and only made ₹9.50 crore in India and ₹13 crore worldwide on its opening day. After the first week, it earned around ₹57.50 crore net in India and about ₹75 crore globally. With ticket sales declining, it seems unlikely that Jaat will cross the ₹100-crore mark worldwide, and it may struggle to reach that in India. The news of a sequel, despite Jaat’s average performance, has caught many in the industry by surprise.
