On Tuesday, the police in Gwalior arrested a 25-year-old doctor for allegedly raping a fellow doctor. This incident happened on Sunday at an old, abandoned boys’ hostel connected to a government medical college in Madhya Pradesh. The victim was going to take an exam when she was called to meet the accused at the hostel.
When she arrived, he threatened her and then assaulted her. After the victim bravely reported the attack, police quickly took action. The accused doctor has been arrested, and the police are continuing their investigation.
This troubling incident follows another horrific case months ago in Kolkata, where a 31-year-old female post-graduate doctor was brutally raped and killed in a seminar hall. The police arrested the main suspect and are working to ensure justice is served.
The Joint Platform of Doctors (JPD), which represents many doctors’ groups, has voiced its frustration over the slow pace of investigations into these cases and plans to protest for better safety for doctors.
