BJP leader Ramesh Bidhuri recently apologized for his comments about Priyanka Gandhi Vadra. His remarks were criticized by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Congress, who described him as having an anti-women attitude. Bidhuri, who previously served as an MP and is running for election again from the Kalkaji area against Delhi’s Chief Minister Atishi, claimed that political rivals often use similar phrases. He mentioned that RJD leader Lalu Yadav, who is part of the Congress team, has made remarks about actress and MP Hema Malini in the past.
Bidhuri stated he respects women and would take back his comments if they offended anyone. However, he suggested that Congress and AAP should also reflect on their actions.
Atishi, who is competing against Bidhuri, argued that his remarks show a broader issue of how the BJP treats women. She questioned how safe women would feel under BJP rule if a party candidate could make such comments.
Sanjay Singh from AAP found Bidhuri’s remarks disrespectful and surprising, especially since he felt key Congress leaders, Ajay Maken and Sandeep Dikshit, did not condemn Bidhuri’s comments, hinting at a deeper connection between Congress and BJP.
Congress leader Supriya Srinate called Bidhuri’s remarks shameful and highlighted that they reveal a troubling attitude towards women. She criticized his past behavior in parliament and said his comments should not be taken lightly.
Bidhuri had compared the smoothness of the streets in his electoral area to the smoothness of Priyanka Gandhi’s cheeks, a statement that sparked much outrage.
