Popular YouTuber Ankush Bahuguna shared an alarming experience on Instagram after becoming a victim of a scam that held him hostage for nearly 40 hours. In a video, he described how scammers tricked him, leading to financial loss and emotional distress.
In his post, Ankush said, “I have been away from social media for three days because I was trapped by scammers. I lost money and my peace of mind because of this.” He wanted to warn others so they wouldn’t face the same situation.
What Happened?
Ankush explained how it all started when he received a strange phone call from an international number after returning from the gym. The automated voice told him a package had been canceled and prompted him to press “zero” for help. Curious, he did, but it turned out to be a huge mistake.
On the call, the scammer claimed that there was illegal content found in a package supposedly linked to Ankush, using his personal information to frighten him. They said he was under “digital arrest” and that there was already a warrant for him. This made Ankush panic.
The scammer convinced him it was urgent and even connected him to a fake police officer over a WhatsApp video call. This person, acting as a police officer, continued to scare him by saying he was involved in serious crimes like drug trafficking. They told him not to talk to anyone outside while he dealt with this supposed investigation.
Ankush admitted that he was scared and felt helpless during the ordeal. He stressed that scammers know how to exploit fears and personal information to control their victims.
In a follow-up message, he urged people not to judge others for falling for scams, explaining that panic affects everyone differently. He ended his video by encouraging everyone to stay alert and to share awareness to help stop these scams from happening to anyone else.
