Two leaders from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) tragically lost their lives in a car accident in Sambalpur district, Odisha, on Sunday. The victims were Debendra Nayak, the BJP’s Goshala mandal president, and Muralidhar Chhuria, a former village leader, known as a sarpanch. They were both close to Nauri Naik, a prominent BJP leader.

The accident happened around 1:30 AM on National Highway 53, near Burla police station. There were six people in the car, including the driver. They were driving from Bhubaneswar to Kardola. After the crash, all six were rushed to a local hospital, but sadly, the doctors declared Nayak and Chhuria dead.

One of the survivors, Suresh Chanda, shared that the dumper truck hit their car from behind three times. Chanda believes someone might have tried to hit their vehicle on purpose. He mentioned that after the second hit, the driver tried to escape down a rural road, but the dumper followed and hit them again, causing their car to flip over.

Chanda questioned, “Mistakes happen once, but why would someone hit us three times?” Former MLA Nauri Naik said that the crash looked like an intentional attack rather than an accident.

The police have taken the dumper truck and its driver into custody. Superintendent of Police Mukesh Kumar Bhamoo mentioned they will investigate whether it was indeed a deliberate act as the victims’ families suspect.
