Prasidh Krishna shone in the absence of Indian captain Jasprit Bumrah, who was sidelined with back pain. Australia was successfully chasing a target of 162 runs and reached 71 for 3 at lunch on day three of the final Test match. Prasidh took 3 wickets for just 27 runs, getting Sam Konstas for 22 runs, Marnus Labuschagne for 6, and Steve Smith for only 4 runs.
Bumrah’s injury hurt India as they now played without a third fast bowler. Earlier, Scott Boland dominated with 6 wickets for 45 runs, while Pat Cummins added 3 wickets for 44 runs, helping to dismiss India for 157 runs in just 39.5 overs. Only Rishabh Pant, with 61 runs, and Yashasvi Jaiswal, with 22, showed some resistance. The other nine players managed just 74 runs combined.
Now, Australia needs 91 runs to win the Border Gavaskar Trophy and secure a spot in the World Test Championship final against South Africa, scheduled for June 11-15 at Lord’s.
Although Indian bowlers took three Australian wickets, they made too many mistakes while defending a small score. Mohammed Siraj often bowled too straight, allowing easy runs. Konstas tried to attack but lost his wicket while trying to hit one too many big shots.
After Konstas’ wicket, Prasidh found his rhythm. He made Labuschagne pop an easy catch to Jaiswal and sent a fast delivery to Smith, who could only deflect it towards Jaiswal, who caught it brilliantly. At lunch, Usman Khawaja was batting well with 19 runs off 25 balls and was joined by Travis Head, who had 5 runs.
