India Needs to Tackle Key Issues for a Bright Future, Says Tata Chairman
At a recent meeting of NIT Tiruchirappalli alumni, N Chandrasekaran, the chairman of Tata Sons, shared important thoughts on how India can grow and prosper. He said that India must fix problems like inequality and make sure everyone has access to basic healthcare and education. According to him, there is a significant gap in income between different states in India. For example, people in southern states earn four times more than those in the eastern and northern parts.
Chandrasekaran stressed that having access to doctors and teachers is essential. Most doctors live in cities, while many people in India live in rural areas, which creates a big problem. He pointed out that we are also in need of one million teachers to meet growing education demands.
He highlighted that every year, over a million young people start looking for jobs, and it’s crucial to give them the right skills. Right now, many people have informal jobs instead of formal ones, which is a concern.
The Tata chairman, who received the Padma Bhushan award for his achievements, believes that if India tackles these issues, it will set itself up for great success. He noted that global trends like sustainability, renewable energy, and artificial intelligence could play to India’s strengths. He emphasized the need for India to invest more in research, as the number of doctors and skilled professionals in the country is relatively low when compared to the United States and China.
“Let’s give our young people the confidence and support they need to succeed,” he said. Chandrasekaran believes that India has a unique chance to shine.
