In Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district, three people have been arrested in connection with the murder of Mukesh Chandrakar, a 33-year-old journalist. Mukesh’s body was discovered in a septic tank on the property of a local contractor named Suresh Chandrakar. Mukesh had been missing since January 1, and his family reported it to the police soon after.

Mukesh worked as a freelance journalist for popular news channels like NDTV and also ran a YouTube channel called “Bastar Junction,” which has about 159,000 subscribers. He was known for helping rescue a CoBRA commando from a Maoist group back in April 2021.

Police found Mukesh’s body after tracking his mobile phone to Suresh Chandrakar’s property. They believe the murder may be connected to a recent news report where Mukesh exposed problems with road construction work involving Suresh.

In response to his murder, journalists staged protests, demanding action against the contractor and his properties. They want strict punishment, including the death penalty for those involved in the crime. Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai has promised that the police will catch the culprits soon. Journalists are now threatening a longer protest if their demands are not met and are asking for a special investigation team to look into the case.
