In a surprising move, Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena (UBT) praised Maharashtra’s Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis for his work to improve the Naxal-affected Gadchiroli district. The party affectionately called him ‘Deva Bhau’ and noted that he visited Gadchiroli on New Year’s Eve to kick-start development in the area.

On New Year’s Day, 11 Naxalites, including eight women, decided to give up their weapons at a police station in Gadchiroli, where Fadnavis was present. He expressed hope that Naxalism would soon be a thing of the past in the state.

Fadnavis highlighted that Gadchiroli once lacked roads and was under the control of Maoists. However, his team built big police posts and created roads to connect Gadchiroli with Chhattisgarh. He also launched a 32-kilometer road and new bus services to help residents.

The Shiv Sena (UBT) mentioned in a recent article that they believe Fadnavis can bring positive changes to the lives of tribals in Gadchiroli. However, they urged him to make his plans happen.

This praise for Fadnavis comes after a meeting he had with Uddhav Thackeray earlier this month. Their relationship has been rocky since they split in 2019.

Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut explained, “We’ve praised Devendra Fadnavis because the government has done a good job. If Naxalites are choosing peace, that’s a win for everyone.” He noted that the previous leader did not do enough to fight Naxalism.

Responding to the rare praise, Fadnavis simply said, “It’s good. Thank you.”
