A Scottish hiker named Heather said she was stopped at Delhi Airport because she was carrying a Garmin Inreach device. This device is used for GPS navigation and messaging, but it’s not allowed in India.
Heather shared her experience on Instagram. She explained that while going through security for her flight to Rishikesh, she put her Garmin Inreach in the tray for scanning. Suddenly, security officers pulled her aside and told her to wait.
She was informed that the Garmin device was illegal in India, and they were going to call the police. Heather tried to contact her embassy, but they said they couldn’t help much since she was in the hands of the law.
Later, she was taken to a police station for questioning. She described the questioning as friendly, but she had to sign many documents. She decided to be honest and answer their questions, stating she never intended to break any rules.
Finally, at 9 PM, Heather was released from the police station, but she must return for court later. Another person from the Czech Republic faced a similar issue recently in Goa for having a banned Garmin device.
