A man from India shared a strange story about a “human tissue paper dispenser” he saw in a fancy restaurant’s bathroom. The man, who goes by @rohilaltro on Reddit, was shocked when he noticed a person standing by the sink holding tissue paper. At first, he thought this person was just a staff member.
After using the toilet, the man noticed this person watching him closely. When he washed his hands, the person leaned forward to hand him a tissue to dry them. This made the Reddit user feel “bad and sorry” for the individual, thinking that societal and money pressures made him do such an embarrassing job just to earn a living.
Interestingly, the user had a similar experience at another location. When he asked the attendant, “Why are you doing this?” the reply was, “Because my manager asked me to.” Although the question was meant to be more of a comment, he couldn’t help but ask it.
He strongly believes nobody should be treated this way, forced to do such demeaning tasks just to provide “better service.” Many others commented about their experiences too. One person mentioned a similar situation in a Bangalore mall, saying it made a bad impression about the mall’s management. Another shared that they saw similar things in Mexico, explaining that it feels wrong for tissues to seem more valuable than a person.
Some users said that bathroom attendants help keep the area clean and safe, preventing bad things from happening when there are no security cameras around.
