On Monday, police arrested two men for allegedly attacking an Army officer. This happened after more than 60 NCC cadets were taken to the hospital due to suspected food poisoning during a camp at KMM College in Kochi’s Thrikkakara last week.
The two men, named Nishad from Fort Kochi and Navas from Palluruthi, are accused of assaulting Lieutenant Colonel Karneyil Singh, who was in charge of the camp for the 21 Kerala NCC Battalion. The police found and arrested the men at their homes after being identified by NCC officials.
The attack took place at around 11:30 PM on December 23. According to the police report, the two men went into the college where the camp was held, threatened, and then harmed Colonel Singh. One of the attackers is said to have stabbed the officer in the cheek, neck, and back, which made it hard for him to do his job.
The police have charged the accused with several serious crimes, including criminal trespass, causing hurt, and threatening a public servant. Following the food poisoning incident, the additional director general of NCC has ordered a report to be prepared by a committee led by a brigadier.
