A report by a group called Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) says that Mamata Banerjee, the Chief Minister of West Bengal, has the least amount of money and assets of all the Chief Ministers in India. The report looks at what candidates declare about their money and property before elections.

Mamata Banerjee’s total assets are worth ₹15,38,029. She has no land or buildings (immovable assets) but has some cash and items worth over ₹15 lakh (movable assets). For 2024, she says her income will be around ₹15,47,845. She describes her job as “social work and politics.”

Omar Abdullah, the former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, comes next with assets worth more than ₹55 lakh. He too has no immovable assets and reports an income of ₹14,52,010 for 2024.

Following him is Pinarayi Vijayan, the Chief Minister of Kerala, with a total of ₹1.18 crore. He has movable assets of about ₹31.80 lakh and immovable assets worth ₹86.95 lakh. His reported income for 2024 is ₹2,87,860, and he calls himself a “politician.”

Chief Ministers with the Most Liabilities

The report also mentions Chief Ministers with huge debts. Pema Khandu from Arunachal Pradesh tops the list with liabilities over ₹1 crore despite his assets being more than ₹332 crore. He reports zero income for 2024.

Next is Siddaramaiah, the Chief Minister of Karnataka, who has assets over ₹51 crore and liabilities of more than ₹23 crore. His income for 2024 is more than ₹20 lakh.

Finally, the richest Chief Minister, Chandrababu Naidu from Andhra Pradesh, has assets worth over ₹931 crore and debts over ₹10 crore. He says his income for 2024 is more than ₹18 lakh.
