The stock market started the week on a low note when trading opened on Monday, December 30, 2024. It fallen mainly because of declines in media, auto, and IT stocks, a big change from the good performance seen at the end of last week.

At 9:30 am IST, the main index, BSE Sensex, went down by 175.82 points, or 0.22%, reaching 78,523.25. Similarly, the NSE Nifty index fell by 49.70 points, or 0.21%, coming in at 23,763.70.

Which stocks dropped the most? Among the 30 stocks in the Sensex, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd had the biggest fall of 0.77%, trading at ₹3,026.60. This was closely followed by Infosys Ltd, which went down by 0.73% to ₹1,902.50, and Titan Company Ltd, which fell by 0.71% to ₹3,287.

Which sectors faced the most decline? Looking at the Nifty Sectoral Indices, the Nifty Media index dropped the most by 0.67%, hitting 1,841.40. Next was the Nifty Auto index, down by 0.52% to 22,977.90, and the Nifty IT index, which fell by 0.51% to 43,497.30.

How did the market do last time? This decline comes after a positive week, where the market closed strong last Friday, December 27, 2024. The Sensex was at 78,699.07, gaining 226.59 points or 0.29%, while the Nifty ended at 23,813.40, up by 63.20 points or 0.27%.
