Before the 2025 elections for the Delhi Assembly, Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena ordered a check on private cars coming into Delhi from Punjab. He did this because Congress leader Sandeep Dikshit claimed that a lot of cash was being brought from Punjab to influence the elections. Dikshit said that some private cars had police escorts from Punjab and were being used to move large amounts of money.
Dikshit asked the police in Punjab and the governments of Haryana and Rajasthan to keep an eye on these vehicles. He expressed concern that this “illegal” money could affect how people vote, which is not fair for the elections.
The Lieutenant Governor highlighted that using money to influence votes is against the law. He asked the chief secretary to inform the chief electoral officer about these concerns.
Additionally, LG Saxena is looking into claims that people, not from the government, are collecting personal information from Delhi residents to register them for the “Mahila Samman Yojana” scheme by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). This scheme promises to give ₹2,100 to women every month.
Dikshit also met with the Lieutenant Governor and asked for an investigation into the AAP’s welfare scheme. He suggested that the scheme might not be trustworthy and could damage public confidence. He pointed out potential issues with the data being collected for this registration.
