The 2024 season for UNC football had its ups and downs. It started with a shocking loss to James Madison, where UNC lost 70-50 after being down 53-21 at halftime. This defeat was tough: it set a new record for the most points allowed in school history.

After this game, there were rumors that Coach Mack Brown had retired, but it wasn’t true. He later clarified at a press conference that he was still committed to the team and its players. Sadly, the season took an even more painful turn when wide receiver Tylee Craft passed away from a rare type of lung cancer right before the game against Georgia Tech. The entire Carolina community was heartbroken, and to honor Tylee, many wore his No. 13 jersey.

Despite all the challenges, the Tar Heels showed great strength. They pulled together and won three games in a row to become eligible for a bowl game. However, after a loss to Boston College, rumors about Coach Brown being let go circulated again. The regular season wrapped up with the game against NC State, marking the end of Coach Brown’s long career at UNC.
