Brian Thompson, the CEO of UnitedHealthcare, was tragically shot and killed in New York City. The man accused of killing him, 26-year-old Luigi Mangione, had mysteriously disappeared for several months.

Earlier this year, Luigi left his home in Hawaii and traveled to Asia, including countries like Japan and Thailand. He told a friend he wanted to “zen out” and spend time meditating in peaceful places. Luigi even shared lovely details about the sights he was seeing, like tiny villages and beautiful rivers.

While exploring, he sent messages about his adventures, including a hike on a mountain in Japan that had strict rules about women not climbing it. He humorously joked that he needed to “stop getting distracted by women.” However, after those messages, Luigi began to lose contact with his family and friends. In June, a friend asked where he was, but he didn’t reply.

By November, his family was worried and reported him missing. Just weeks later, Luigi returned to New York City, where he allegedly shot Brian Thompson on a busy sidewalk. Authorities later caught him at a McDonald’s in Pennsylvania. Luigi faces several serious charges, including murder and illegal possession of a gun. He is currently in jail without the chance for bail.
