As tensions rise between India and Pakistan, several northern Indian states are taking emergency steps to keep people safe. These include blackouts, closing schools, and stopping official leaves for staff.
The situation intensified after Pakistan tried to attack three Indian military bases. Thankfully, the Indian military stopped the attack without any losses, but loud explosions were reported in places like Jammu, Pathankot, Udhampur, and other areas in Jammu & Kashmir and Punjab.
States on High Alert
Punjab, with a long border with Pakistan, is now a critical area. The government there has canceled all police leaves and closed schools in six districts close to the border: Ferozepur, Pathankot, Fazilka, Amritsar, Gurdaspur, and Tarn Taran. On Thursday evening, blackouts were enforced in districts such as Pathankot, Amritsar, and Chandigarh.
Punjab’s Minister, Aman Arora, stated, “All districts near the border are on high alert. The state’s role is very important during military tension.”
Haryana has also canceled police leaves and health department staff. Officials asked all personnel to stay at their district headquarters, prepared for emergencies. Schools in Gurgaon will be closed on May 9.
Rajasthan Tightens Security
Rajasthan, which has a long international border, has also taken tough measures. Blackouts from 9 pm to 4 am have been put in place in Barmer, Jaisalmer, and Jodhpur. Schools in five western districts are closed, and red alerts are issued in Sri Ganganagar. Drone flights and firecrackers are banned in many areas, while flights at Bikaner, Kishangarh, and Jodhpur airports are suspended until May 10.
Gujarat, with both land and sea borders with Pakistan, has also canceled police leaves and boosted security along its coast. Inspector General Ashok Kumar Yadav stated that coastal areas like Jamnagar, Morbi, and Devbhumi Dwarka are on alert, encouraging locals to report any suspicious activities.
