Suresh Pujari Acquitted: Court Finds No Evidence in Builder Extortion Case

In a surprising turn of events, a court in Thane has cleared gangster Suresh Pujari and 11 others of serious charges in a 2016 case about extortion by builders. This means they are not found guilty. The judge said the police did not investigate properly and didn’t provide enough strong evidence against the accused.

The incident happened on July 11, 2016, when two men with guns broke into the office of a real estate developer named Sumit Chakravorthy in Ulhasnagar. They tried to scare the staff by threatening them and left behind a note with Pujari’s name on it. Thankfully, no one got hurt during the attack.

The judge pointed out that there was no clear proof that showed the accused were guilty. He also noted that the investigation was lacking, which means the accused should be given the benefit of the doubt. Therefore, both those who were present in court and two others who were missing received a clear verdict of not guilty.

The trial began in 2016, with the accused facing serious charges like attempted murder, extortion, and conspiracy under different laws. Among the people who were acquitted is 57-year-old Suresh Pujari, along with 11 others who were in various jobs, like contractors and suppliers.

The judge criticized the prosecution for wasting money and failing to gather enough evidence to charge the accused. Since the two missing accused were not there, the court found there was no reason to keep the trial going.
