Members of the Brahmin community protested outside a NEET exam center in Kalaburagi, Karnataka, on Sunday. This happened because some students were asked to remove their sacred thread, known as Janivara, before taking the test. The trouble started when a candidate, Shripad Patil, was made to take off his sacred thread at St. Mary’s School, the exam venue.
In response, many people from the Brahmin community came together to protest, shouting slogans and sitting outside the school. They were upset, claiming the authorities disrespected their religious beliefs and did not follow government rules. A video showed the protesters showing their sacred threads while talking to security personnel.
After this incident, the state government took action against the officials involved and gave new instructions to prevent this from happening again. However, some Brahmin candidates reported that they were also asked to remove or had their sacred threads cut at the center on the same day.
This issue is similar to what happened during the April 16 Common Entrance Test (CET), where many Brahmin candidates faced the same problem.
Meanwhile, the NEET UG 2025 exam took place all over India on Sunday, organized by the National Testing Agency (NTA). Thousands of students took part in this important exam for medical school admission. To ensure safety, there were strong security measures in place, especially after problems like question paper leaks and disputes in the previous year’s exam.
Candidates underwent thorough checks by local police, along with the normal NTA procedures, before entering the exam centers. The authorities also kept a close watch on coaching centers and online platforms to stop cheating. Each exam center had CCTV cameras to make sure everything was fair and clear.
