Bengaluru – Mohammed Shami played a fantastic game for Bengal in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, helping his team reach the quarterfinals! Shami scored 32 runs in just 17 balls and bowled really well, allowing Bengal to win against Chandigarh by just three runs. This match took place on Monday.

Shami, who is 34 years old, has been playing a lot lately, with eight T20 games in just 16 days. After a shaky start, his batting helped Bengal climb from 114 for 8 to a final score of 159 for 9. He hit two sixes and three fours, making crucial runs with Sayan Ghosh at the end.

Ghosh then bowled strongly in the final over, playing a big part in stopping Chandigarh from chasing down the score, which ended at 156 for 9.

Shami looked fit and sharp while bowling. He took a wicket early by catching Arsalan Z Khan and bowled three overs, giving away only 11 runs—except for one big hit by Manan Vohra. His speed was good, throwing some balls at 139 km/h.

Overall, Shami has played nine domestic games—one in the Ranji Trophy and eight in T20 matches—taking 16 wickets over 64 overs.

Many are asking if Shami is ready for Test matches. Although he is doing well in T20s, playing in Test matches is much harder since he would need to bowl longer spells and field for more hours. There are talks among selectors about bringing him back when he feels fully fit. However, Shami has told the doctors that he feels a little swelling in his knee after games, which is something to keep an eye on before he returns to test cricket.
