In a thrilling match at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) came very close to chasing down a total of 214 runs set by Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). CSK’s Ayush Mhatre scored an impressive 94 runs, and Ravindra Jadeja contributed a strong 77 not out, but the team lost by just two runs. This was CSK’s ninth loss of the season, leaving them at the bottom of the points table. On the other hand, RCB celebrated as they climbed to the top and looked ready for the playoffs, with three more games to play.
During the match, CSK captain MS Dhoni was seen frustrated with bowler Khaleel Ahmed. In the 11th over, when Dhoni was changing the field setup, he noticed Khaleel was not in the right position. He yelled, “Khaleel, have you ever seen anyone fielding there?”
It was a tough day for Khaleel Ahmed. He gave away 32 runs in his first two overs. When he bowled in the 19th over, RCB’s Romario Shepherd hit him for 33 runs, making it the most expensive over ever for a CSK bowler in IPL history. This broke the previous record of 30 runs held by Lungi Ngidi against Rajasthan Royals five years ago.
Some cricket experts questioned Dhoni’s decision to let Khaleel bowl again instead of choosing the impressive Anshul Kamboj, who had done well earlier. However, CSK’s head coach Stephen Fleming supported Khaleel, saying, “Khaleel has performed well for us this season, and there’s no reason to change that. Kamboj is developing his skills and will be an option later, but Khaleel hasn’t done anything to be benched.”
