The amazing sight of Shah Rukh Khan and Malaika Arora dancing on top of a train in the song “Chaiyya Chaiyya” is something every Bollywood fan remembers. But did you know that Malaika was not the first choice for this famous song?
In a recent episode of “Bigg Boss 18,” Shilpa Shirodkar shared an interesting story. She revealed that filmmaker Farah Khan asked her to be in “Chaiyya Chaiyya” first. However, Shilpa was turned down because of her weight. She said, “Farah told me I was too fat for the song.” Farah wanted Shilpa to lose weight, but after about a week, Shilpa was rejected.
After that, Malaika Arora got the chance to star in the song with Shah Rukh Khan. When another contestant jokingly asked Shilpa if the train would have stopped for her, she laughed it off, saying only Farah and the film’s director, Mani Ratnam, could explain why.
“Chaiyya Chaiyya” is from the 1998 film “Dil Se.” In this iconic song, Shah Rukh and Malaika dance on a moving train. The song was sung by Sukhwinder Singh and Sapna Awasthi, choreographed by Farah Khan, who won a Filmfare Award for it. The music was created by AR Rahman, with lyrics by Gulzar. In a 2020 interview, Malaika mentioned that “Chaiyya Chaiyya” should never be remade because it is truly special.
